  1. Lady at the booze section in Makro Rangsit made a call and told me to go BKK or Nonthaburi. Not very convenient but in 15 mins I was getting my Blend bottles from Tesco Express in Phahol 66 bkk bordering Pathum Thani next to Airforce stadium (in case someone from south Pathum Thani wants to know the nearest pos just Google เทสโก้ โลตัส เอ็กซ์เพรส พหลโยธิน 66).

  2. Got in at CNX today no questions asked. A 3-month non-b business, a visa exempt and a tv from Savannakhet all maxed out, back to back in 2019. Blue stamp on the visa granted by the consulate in Saigon. Moving back to EU so I don't care anymore.

No 20k, no onward flight and no grumpiness from any official there. Getting to BKK domestically seems safer for visa runners.

The procedure to get the tv in Saigon was not pleasant though. Applications are allowed in the evening so it took me almost 2 hours to get the passport back. Lots of moaning, begging and blatant cue skipping by grown-up men who either forgot to do their homework correctly or booked a flight on that same evening without ever considering the possibility of a overwhelmed, dysfunctional Royal Thai consulate.

Whatever visa they were applying for I doubt it was their 1st one. Wonder if they could've known a bit better by now or whether they were just playing dumb in order to cut in line.

Guess some will keep playing roulette so here's a heads-up for you.

  3. I remember when I went there in 2014 for a double-entry TV. The old officer at the Lao side of the border scolded the younger one when he realized he didn't overcharge me for the 35$ Lao visa on arrival. I was their only chance at that specific time in the morning so I understood his rage. At immigration there were 20 applicants tops each day and all smiles at the counters. This time I guess I'll have to camp at 6am with some beerlao bottles and sunscreen. Better to book an appointment for Vientiane, Penang or KL and book cheap flights 2 months in advance if that's even possible now.

Not to my knowledge. Most regional transport in the South nowadays is covered by passenger vans, which typically end (last departure) at dusk. One route that might be of interest to you is the van that goes from Trang-Phattalung-Ranode-Songkhla Town. They also have one minibus that does the same route to cover the extra load at peak time.

Overnight public transport in the region is largely limited to buses and trains to Bangkok.

However, there are also overnight buses from both Songkhla Town and Hat Yai to Phuket. I think the bus from Hat Yai to Phuket stops in Krabi, but not sure what time. You would have to go to the BorKorSor (Transport station) and ask.

Thanks for the answer. I can confirm that the buses/vans from Trang to neighbouring cities run only from 7 to 17h. the only exception being the bus route you mentioned which can be boarded at Trang bus terminal until around midnight.

Don't you have to enter two airports?

    From where to where?

BTW, no third party can give you cheaper airfares than the actual airline you're flying on.

That's the third variable, which airline?

    Not every airline flies everywhere.

I found that to be untrue in some cases. When booking flights last week I realized that Trip was cheaper than Thai Air Asia and Nok Air. The reason is that the processing fee that these companies charge at the end of the booking process makes the grand total higher than when the flight is booked on Trip. Google flights is a good resource but they don't include that final hidden charge so beware.
