  1. I recently returned fro Savannakhet after switching from my Non-OA visa based on retirement to a single-entry Non-O visa based on marriage.  My intention was to pursue a one-year extention based on marriage. However, my wife's name is not listed in the house book and she is not interested in adding her name, nor accompanying me to my IO for the extension.

I have a son who lives with us from a prior legal marriage to a Thai.  His mother died about 9 years ago.  I am aware of the documentation required by immigration if I request an extension based on my son, as well as changing my marital status.  However, I am unsure whether or not I can do this under my present Non-O visa based on marriage.  Any advice from members will be appreciated.

  2. I am currently on an extension of stay for retirement.  My base visa is a Non Immigrant OA.  I am also a father and single parent of an 11-year old Thai child. His mother died about 9 years ago.  At the time, we were legally married under Thai law.  My name is listed as the father on his birth certificate.  I am currently legally married to a Thai citizen who is not my child's natural mother.  I was planning to go Savannakhet in the very near future and switch my visa to a single-entry Non Immigrant O based on visiting my wife.  Then sometime around 60 days, apply for an extension of stay based upon supporting my wife.  However, I would really prefer to base my extension of stay on support of my son.  It's a trust issue with me.  I will appreciate any constructive comments and advice whether this is possible with Thai Immigration.

  3. I am planning a border run to Savannakhet to switch from a Non OA based on retirement to a Non O based on marriage to a Thai.  I am currently married, however my present extension is based on retirement and will expire in October 2020.  I have an opportunity to go with someone who has been to Savannakhet before and apply for a single-entry Non O, which I  would later convert to Non O extension.  I would like to go to Savannakhet sometime this January.  Does anyone see any problems doing this visa switch 10 months before my present extension expires with either the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet or Thai Immigration when I re-enter Thqailand?  Your advice will be appreciated.

  4. I initially received my first and only Non-Imm O-A visa 16 years ago.  Lived in Thailand ever since.  I have changed from retirement to support visas and back again over the years.  My current visa status is retirement, although I have a wife and child.  It is unclear at this point whether I will be required to have health insurance when I go for my visa extension later this year.  I am 72 years old.  A cursory review of Thai insurance companies show that I am above the age of insurance coverage.  Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

  5. Until recently, my visa extensions were based on support of a Thai national. However, last month my wife died. We have a 3 year old child who is both Thai and American. I take care of him completely. Next month I am due to go to Phitsanulok Immigration for my annual visa extension. Obviously, I will not receive an extension based on support of my wife. I am aware that my status can be changed to retirement. I am eligible acording to Thai Immigration rules. However, there may be some job opportunities for me in the near future. I know that I cannot legally work under retirement status. I would like to know what other options are avaiable to me. Any sugestions will be appreciated.

  6. I am married to a Thai citizen and have a Non-O Visa based upon support. I have been asked by a local government school to teach English Conversation next term. I am aware that I will need a WP. That is not a problem. I have both a Bachlor of Science and Masters of Environmental Health Sciences Degrees. However, I am concerned about obtaining a Temporary Teachers License, as I will have to extend my visa at Nan Immigration later this year. I understand that those teachers with a Non-B Visa based upon teaching are required to have a teachers license in order to extend their visas. My question is: Does a teacher with a Non-O Support Visa need a Temporary Teachers License to extend that visa at Nan Immigration?

  7. I have a problem and would appreciate any advice or information from members of the forum. I currently live in Thailand and have been married to a Thai National for almost four years now. I was legally married in Thailand. Unfortuanately, the marriage is failing, solely because of laao kaao.

Next month, I am due to renew my support visa. However, my wife refuses to accompany me to Bangkok Immigration to sign the necessary documentation to extend my visa. I would prefer not to go through a divorce at the local Amper, as she will only consent to a divorce if I give her half the funds that I currently have in a Thai bank. I have already purchased land and constructed a house for her. I am eligable, both financially and age-wise, for a retirement visa.

My question is; is it possible to convert a support visa to a retirement visa at Bangkok Immigration without documentation of a divorce? I would appreciate any advice or information from members of the forum. Thank you.
