  1. Out of interest, where did your wife get her education? Most of those wealthy Issan Thais you're talking about don't put their kids into the local schools. Private schools in Bangkok, then university.

    I tend to agree.
There is bound to be reasonably priced private schools there somewhere.
Your kids are very young at the moment... so you got a bit of time on your side to sort out.
Thinking of taking your kids elsewhere in Thailand for the sake of there education at this point is fruitless... you gotta sort out your situation and your sanity as your going to be useless to them otherwise.
She’s done something dishonestly behind your back... so basically your marriage is over as trust is a big foundation...iam sorry to say. So again forget about trying to get them away and setting her up somewhere down south.
Your have to learn to get along with her and with out living with her from now on to get access to the kids.
She has got what she wanted... half thai/farlang kids and money out of you.
And obviously it won’t end there ... she will want you to pay for the kids education etc etc and still try and get it over you.
I would honestly start by getting some advice from a lawyer in Australia.... and decide the rest from there.
Good luck and sorry to hear about your situation

  2. Mine does it to.
At least once a week she will complain about a sore stomach... and end up in the toilet.... i blame the left over foods, left out on the table... as she is the only one eating it... kids won’t even touch it now.. ha
I told her that fridges were invented to protect food from the bugs... not just to keep the beer cold.
She will then do it for a few days then gradually the foods build up on the table... old habit/tradition kicks in again.
I think it really boils down to education.
Just another frustrating thing that you have to live with in Thailand.
    LOS
    Land of frustration.

  3. Best not to think too much about Thais and Thai problems.
Not your land and never will be, so who cares.
Does she worry about your VISA for next year?

    Agree... not my real problem.
Her parents were hoping to leave it to the grand kids ( our children ) one day as most parents in any Country would probably think like wise.
My kids probably don’t need it and I have told the parents so.
If I put myself in there shoes as I would probably be fighting and obeying the law or whatever to do the same as they are very supportive and would like to bring something to the table.
I told my partner to tell them to continue to do what they normally do.... but it’s the threat of loosing it if they don’t agree to these rangers whims and often demands.
Was just putting it out there if any one has similar issues.
    I guess you don’t.
I like you and many others on this forum are very cynical about the changes to our visas at play.... little as some of the issues are.
My partner does care about the visa issues... she does understand why the sudden change of heart in expats living here and like what’s happening to her own family... believes it just a money grab.
Plus the crap that’s been brought up about her having to report me and my family coming and going all of a sudden after 9 years....as do some of our friends ... the immigration office is putting the blame on Thais for a job there not doing.
I told her I am nothing more than a long term tourist.
Government is in favor of Chinese... don’t get her started on that.
I have opened her eyes to what’s happening and she also doesn’t like it.
So believe it or not there is Thais out there that take on board what’s happening.

  4.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or knowledge on this ....

My thai partners parents have a rural farm and to my knowledge they do not have proper title.... as do many of the families in rural villages in Thailand.

Since the military government got in they live in fear of loosing there land where they grow there rice etc etc for a living.

From my information the land purchases in these areas are all done via the head in the village... probably with kick backs no doubt.

There seems to be never ending village meetings about the land use and what they should.... so one day the government may grant them proper title on there land.

Just recently my partner said she sent some money to her parents ( as she always does and we live 100kms from there) but this time it was for them to buy a few hundred mango and coconut trees to plant on the land.

Obviously I asked why.... response was that her parents were told by the ranger there that if they planted trees they would be seen on the satellite images of the area and that might help them in the future to gain title to the land.

Other villages are now doing the same.

I of course couldn’t see how this was going to make a difference and what right has some ranger got to further put fear into these people as it seems to be an on going thing.

I am not sure what the future holds for these poor farmers to obtain proper titles as the news of such has dried up....if the Thais cant get proper answers what chance has a farlang got.

    Your thoughts

  5. You are confusing TM30 reporting under section 38 of the immigration act with the requirement in section 37 that requires a report using a TM28 form of your stay in another province for more than 24 hours within 48 hours that is not enforced.

    Thanks for reply,
So in a nut shell... the hotel will report my stay to immigration because they have to and I don’t as the time is under 24 hours.
My concern if this is correct.... thai Immigration computerised systems may eventually pick this up?
One can only hope that immigration will delve into 2 night stays.
Unfortunately it’s very confusing as there is probably so many scenarios.

  6. Here’s a question or two regarding this 24 hour rule and TM 28 form.

    a) On several occasions I have traveled from Phitsanalook to Bangkok on an afternoon flight..... checked into a hotel late afternoon... checked out early morning and arrived back home late morning.... all in less than a 24 hour period.
Did the hotel report my stay as it was less than 24 hours?
Am I suppose to report to immigration office that I was out of town less than 24 hours... as I traveled out side my province?

    b) I catch up with a friend from time to time whom lives 30 mins away from where I live .. but in the same province.
I arrive at his home 6pm and some times if I have had to much to drink I stay the night...as its to dangerous to drive home.
I leave the next morning and return home.
All in less than a 24 hour period.
Do either of us have to report to immigration the fact that I stayed the evening as it was less than a 24 hour period.?

  7. Hi,

Looking at renting a car in Thailand for a month.

Traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai or vice versa.

Haven’t decided which airport to fly into yet .... Bangkok or Chiang Mai.... as the car rental company could decide my choice.

Will return the car to point of pick up.

I was thinking 500 baht a day with insurance included as a starting price point?

    Any one had experiences.

I have international drivers license etc and over 30 years of age if that helps in discussions.

    Regards

  8. media distorting a tragedy again without looking into the facts and explaining...and the locals will obviously believe it..... what the.
    How about some truth.
At any given moment, there are approximately 2,000 thunderstorms occurring in the world, resulting in about 100 lightning strikes every second. Lightning is caused by clouds that are electrically charged. Typically the top of a cloud is positively charged whereas the bottom is negatively charged. This causes a positive charge to build up on the ground beneath the cloud. The grounds electrical charge concentrates around anything that sticks up, such as mountains, people, or single trees, or of course, lightning arresters. The charge coming up from these points eventually connects with a charge reaching down from the clouds, resulting in a lightning strike.

The claim that mobile phones are a risk when used in a storm is misleading. If a person is standing out in the open and a positive charge builds around him, when the potential is just right, there will be a lightning strike - whether he is talking on a cellphone or not.

The concern that mobile phones attract lightning was first raised a number of years ago in an internet hoax and is now a recognized urban myth. According to safety authorities, people who are outside increase their risk of being struck if they are on high ground, or in an open space, or near a body water or near large metallic structures or trees. These factors are more important to safety in an electrical storm than the use of a mobile phone. Mobile phones are low power devices and do not have any characteristics which would make them attractive to lightning strikes. Nowadays, nearly everyone carries a mobile-phone, and so it is blamed when anyone is struck by lightning.

Contrary to the belief that the metal components of cell phones and portable media players make users of such devices targets in thunderstorms, lightning is most attracted to the tallest objects in a given area that provide the quickest and easiest path to the ground. The reason trees are so often struck is because they’re usually the tallest potential conductors in a given area.

Whilst on the subject, I would like to mention that landlines are not safe when a thunderstorm is in progress. This is because, hundreds of kilometers of wire is in the open, connecting to the landline at home - and if there is a lightning strike anywhere, the current may travel through the telephone cables and reach the instrument to which it is connected. If no one is using the instrument at that time, the instrument or the circuitry inside may get fried; but if someone is using the instrument - there are chances that the person may get severely burnt by the high voltage appearing at the instrument and going to ground. Since it is not a direct hit, the current being distributed unevenly, it forces the bulk of the current to flow through the outer surface or skin giving rise to the phenomena called skin effect

  9. Hi, iam 6 months into my 3rd multi entry retirement visa and I am looking to book a flight back to Australia. It could be for a period extending out to 3 months or so .....for family and business issues.

I recall reading something..... that I may be jeopardizing my visa by been out of Thailand for more than 90 days. Guessing that’s got something to do with the 90 day report?

    Any one experienced this?

    Regards

  11. Yes and yes.
Might look into using a agent... they may be able to get the message across that I have income coming in.
After the last visit to immigration... I am kinda over it.
After jumping through all there hoops back in January I finally got a one year visa.
Although i am not married I live with my partner and 2 kids... they granted me a visa based on that... so only needed the 400k in the bank and a letter from the bank.... 400 k for family... 800k for single... Go figure.???
They came to my house and got photos etc etc.... real degrading in front of the neighbors.
IMO lady just said have 800k in bank next time.
I didn’t argue or say much at all through the whole ordeal... just walked away happy that I got the year.
Worst case scenario I will put in 800k and be done with it next year.
It’s been a wake up call and I can’t see it been the last one.
A friend of mine recently left Thailand ( he had the proper funds to back up his retirment) but because he lost a good friend whom didn’t have the proper income to show and back him up.
The guy had over 400k in the bank but wasn’t married... and refused to do so.
Reading between the lines on a few posts.... marriage is the next way around it... shame people are pushed that way.

  12. I keep asking.  What did they want you to show?  A statement from the bank?  How would Thai Immigration be able to tell a pension fund from your uncle Charlie sending you a check?  Did they want to see a bank statement or something else?  What immigration office was it?  It doesn't sound like you are talking about the Jomtien office.

I showed them the statement from my bank.
I showed them the letter from the bank stating the funds were in there.... etc etc.
My bank statement shows the funds each month coming in from overseas... it has the code showing that.
She then asked if these funds coming in were from a pension fund... I said No I am not a pensioner... I can not give you that letter.
She wasn’t interested from that point on.
The answer to your question... “ she wanted a letter to show that the month installments were coming from a pension fund.
She could see the funds... she wanted a letter to show that i dm getting a pension.
    Regardless of all that.
I understand that they couldn’t tell where the funds are coming from ... but she obviously wanted to know.
Have you used the combo letter before?
Are you a pensioner or not?
Do you have to be a pensioner to use the combo approach to get a visa.... it appeared that way to me????????

  13. What did they want?

“They wanted me to show the funds coming into Thailand were from a pension fund.”
I am not old enough to be a pensioner yet... so I can not show any letters or proof that these funds are from a pensioner fund or related to one.
So there reply was “ you have to show 800 k in the bank then to qualify for retirement visa.
My point was.... the topic started with some one been granted a retirement visa based on combo method of income.
They did not mention if the funds going into the account each month were funds from a pension fund?

  14. You lost me... I am not a pensioner and do not have a pension.
The money i bring into Thailand is not from a pension... I get the money mainly from rental property.
I had 400 k in a thai account and could show that I was depositing 65k monthly from overseas into this account.
I assumed that the 400k plus the 65k monthly would qualify for the combo method to get retirement visa.
I was told that I needed a letter to show the 65k was from a pension.
When I said to the lady I do not have a pension... she said then I need 800k in the bank instead then... full stop.
I have had two previous retirement visas... but in both instances I had the 800k in the bank.
I have been renovating the house and let the money slide .... thinking I will be okay using the combo method... obviously not.
Perhaps the office I applied at isn’t so easy or its correct that the combo method is using pension funds with letter to verify??

  15. Did you have to show that 40 thou baht every 28 days was coming in to Thailand via a pension?
I tried the combo method of showing income and got knocked back as I had to show the income was via a pension??
I am over 50 but still to young for the Aust pension?
Told I need 800 thou in the bank... and come back when I do so?
