  1. Are you unable to renew your current extension of stay for marriage? You should not need to get a B visa to work and those on extensions of stay are allowed to obtain work permits and work. Can't answer document question but know it is normally less than for non teachers.

Regrettably I have had to dip into the 400k that I kept for the married persons extension due to an unforseen and substantial expenditure.

  2. I currently have a married persons extension of stay which expires on 6th May.

I have been offered a teaching job at an Issan High School commencing mid May and the school have confirmed that they will supply the relevant paperwork to enable me to get a Non Imm B visa and thereafter a teachers licence and work permit.

I assume that all I will need to get the Non B will be a letter from the school confirming the job offer and a copy of the contract of employment but would appreciate anybody who has obtained a Non B for teaching purposes advising whether I will need to take anything else.

I plan to go to Vientiane and would also appreciate confirmation that they will process the application there.

  3. Your Non Imm B Visa died years ago.

Immigration will give you a 60 day extension to visit your Wife.

KL Malaysia will give you a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa if you have at least 100,000 Baht in the bank. This would give up to 15 months but would need a border run every 90 days.

You can work with this providing you have a Work Permit.

Thank you for such a quick reply.

So in brief I can get 60 days from K.Kaen on or before 6th May.

As I dont really want to travel to K.L. can I go to Ventienne armed with work papers and get a non imm B, as I did for the last job, and then apply for extension of stay when the work permit is granted?

  4. My cicumstances are a bit complex but here is the background;

I obtained a non imm B from Vientaine on 26th Feb 2008 for work purposes and after getting a work permit I obtained a 1 years extension of stay in May 2008.

Unfortunately the company I worked for went bust in January 2009 and upon surrendering my work permit I was given a 60 day extension of stay as I am legally married and I immediately applied for a married persons extension of stay which was granted on 6th May 2009.

This was renewed last year and expires on 6th May this year however due to several unforseen expenses I will not have the required 400k to renew the married persons extension this time round.

I will however be starting a teaching job on 1st May for which a work permit will eventually be obtained but I am concerned how to extend my stay until the work permit is granted.

I live in Khon Kaen and need to know whether I can do a one day trip to Laos and get 90 days based on the Non Imm B granted in 2008, or could I just go to K.Kaen immigration and get 60 days on the basis that the work permit should be granted within that period.

Alternatively do I need to get another Non Imm Visa?

Any advice would be most helpful

  5. Thanks for the input gents.

It seems several locals suffered from the same problem of lost plates and one guy offered some people 1000 baht to find his plate by trawling up and down with a fishing net.

His plate wasn't found but very luckily mine was pulled out and I was very happy to pay the guys 500 baht for a box of Beer Leo as they were already pretty inebriated.

I had already done the police report and was told that I would have to personally go to Bangkok within 7 days to sort out a new plate.

Can't understand why this cant be done through the local Licensing office or by mail. To expect people to travel hundreds of miles for a new plate is ludicrous but TIT!!!

  6. Apologies if this topic has been posted before. If there is a connecting link please direct me.

Yesterday I took on some flood water in my pickup which turned out to be deeper than I was informed.

I managed to make it through but in the process my front licence plate became detached and is probably now heading downstream towards Cambodia!

I live in Khon Kaen but the licence plate was issued in Bangkok as I bought the truck when it was 2 years old.

I am aware that I need to do a police report which I will try to do today, but I am unsure as to the procedure thereafter.

My wife thinks I will have to make a personal trip to BKK but I am hoping I can get a new plate via our local vehicle registration dept or by post.

Has anybody had a similar experience that can give me some guidance?

    Thanks

  7. Just to finalise this topic so far as my renewal is concerned.

I went back to Pattaya Imm on 3rd June fully expecting to receive another 30 day stamp as approval would not be back from BKK due to "disruption by redshirts" etc etc.

To my amazement, not only did I sit straight down at desk 5 immediately, the approval had been returned and my 1 year extension was stamped in my passport and I was out of the Imm office within 10 minutes.

Just goes to show that if you have the right paperwork and requirements at the right time you can get the right result without too much drama.

  8. - bank book (copy of bank book - front page and bank balances for past 2 months)

    - letter from your bank (copy needed)

Thanks for this feedback racefan and comproez, very useful. Could I ask about the seasoning of money (400K Baht)at Pattaya Immigration - is it 2 months or 3 months. I know the official rule is now 2 months, but I thought I read somewhere that Pattaya Immigration required 3 months???

I have to do my annual renewal at the end of August and am holding off sending over money as late as possible - in the sad hope that the exchange rate may improve slightly by the end of June.

On initial application for married person's extension you only have to show the 400k as being in the account for 2 months however on renewal the required period is 3 months.

This is not peculiar to Pattaya Imm it is a requirement by the government and will be needed at any Imm. office.

Like you, I had to bear the appalling exchange rate when I transferred money from the UK in February in time for my renewal this week.

With a hung parliament in the UK I dread to think what the pound will do over the next few months!

  9. I've got to make extension in about 2 months . That khor 2 is new to me .

As are the pictures and a map to our home .

In the years I never had to show them , never had a visit either .

Wonder if they only ask those for first timers , guess I just take them anyway but

only take them out when asked . I'm married for over 7 years .

I wonder what to do when you really got 2 addresses ? because wifes business is far from our home ,

which leaves us stay at both places depending on convenience , I don't report that .

But good update from OP .

I submitted my renewal of my married persons extension of stay at Pattaya Imm yesterday and they insisted on the Kor Lor 2, which thanks to posters on TV I already had, plus 2 x copies of the photos they selected out of the 7 I took of the wife and I at home.

When we obtained the Kor Lor 2 last week from the Amphur in Khon Kaen where we were married we were told that you can get a copy from any Amphur office on production of your wifes ID as it is all on computer.

  10. Thought I would update this thread with my experience today at Pattaya Immigration.

I wrongly assumed the Immigration office would be closed for the labour day holiday and went to use the photocopying shop nearby to get copies of the bank verification letter I managed to get from the sub branch of Siam CB at Big C Sukhumvit Rd as the main branch was closed and I planned to go to immigration first thing tomorrow.

I was amazwd to see The Imm office was not only open but also almost deserted as it was 3.15 pm and I believe that most people assumed they would be closed as I had.

My wife and I sat straight down at desk 5 while the officer checked all of my papers and the only thing that was missing was an extra copy of the 2 photos she selected of the 7 that I had taken with me of us at home etc, but fortunately I had them on a flash drive so I rushed to a photo lab in Soi 5 and got 2 extra prints within 5 minutes.

I was sat back down before the officer at about 3.40 pm and she completed the processing, took the 1900 baht fee and stamped my passport with a 30 day extension to allow time for processing in BKK.

The Kor Lor 2 that I obtained last week from Amphur Chonabot was definitely needed and I am grateful to everyone who advised me of this requirement as it is definitely not mentioned on the list of requirements issued by Pattaya Imm.

We were told at Amphur Chonnabot that a Kor Lor 2 can be obtained at any Amphur office on production of the Thai identity card, so if anybody turns up to Immigration without it, all is not lost but I was mighty relieved I already had it.

So I left Pattaya Imm at about 4.05 pm a very happy person having been in and out in less than an hour.

Whether BKK complete the approval by 6th June remains to be seen but so far so good.

Thanks again to everyone who has given their advice on this thread

  11. Firstly I am sure that this topic has been covered before but despite doing a search I cannot find the specific answer to my query so apologies in advance for any repetition.

If somebody can direct me to a link to a previous query please do so.

I am due to renew my married persons extension of stay by the 6th May and have everything in place such as photos, marriage cert, proof of monies etc.

I recall reading on a previous TV post several months ago that you are now required to also produce a form or letter from the Amphur where you registered your marriage confirming that you have not divorced during the intervening period.

I recently did a 90 day report at Jomtien Imm and asked Barry Kenyon the UK consulate rep about this and he said that he had never heard of it and produced the most recent list of requirements which indeed made no reference to this requirement, however I am concerned that the list may have been compiled for first time applicants.

As my marriage is registered at Amphur Chonnabot, Khon Kaen, I am anxious to have this form with me, if it is needed, when I go to Jomtien Imm.

Has anybody any personal experience of this requirement and if so please advise me of the number or name of the form I will need as I am pretty sure that Amphur Chonnabot will not have much of an idea?

  12. Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have had an email from a friend in England asking me whether taser/ stun guns the like of which you see being sold disguised as torches or mobile phones are legal in Thailand.

Strange request I know but this guy is a solicitor in England and he says that a client has the exclusive marketing rights for them should they be legal.

I personally would think that they are not as they seem to be sold from the beach road stalls in Pattaya rather than regular shops but short of going into a local cop shop and asking which I dont want to do, I have no idea how to find out.

He has also asked me to ascertain whether a licence is needed for one (if they are legal) and whether they can be sold on the internet.

Any legal eagles out there with an answer to this?

  13. Last May I obtained a married persons extension of stay after jumping through numerous hoops and over obstacles thrown at me by Pattaya immigration despite having all the correct paperwork and monies in the bank required when I submitted my application in March.

I will be applying for renewal of the extension of stay in May this year but would like to know whether I will be asked to produce all of the same paperwork again, i.e photos of us at home, wife's tabien baan, etc, or will it be just a matter of a simple stamp on production of proof of monies in the bank?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience of renewal, particularly at Pattaya Imm.

  14. Khon Kaen (Chonabot to be precise) got a soaking on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon but so far today no sign of rain thank Christ as the local Amphur still haven't put in the concrete road to my house that they have been promising for the last 2 years.

My pickup stays parked on the concrete road 300 meters away!

  15. A couple of times you said you left and mentioned having a house in Khon Kaen.

    Where have you been living?

That could cause problems because they often check to see if you are living together as husband and wife, If they tryed to contact you at your address in Pattaya and were unable to find you or your wife that could cause a delay and/or questions about your application.

I own a condo in Jomtien and we have a house in my wifes name in Khon Kaen.

Part of the paperwork I submitted when I applied was photos of my wife and I at home in Jomtien and a copy of the house book of the K.K. house.

The Jomtien officer was aware that we live in Jomtien and both of our phone numbers given should an officer wish to visit us. Thus far we have not been contacted, but if they have only just started the application in BKK who knows!!

I am pretty well resigned to getting a non Imm O when I am in England and starting the whole process again when I return.

Just off to Pattaya Imm and will update later

  16. I thought I would update this thread. Sorry it is a bit long but it may help somebody who has the same problem as myself.

On Monday I attended Pattaya immigration in the vain hope that the approval of my application had been finalised.

Needless to say that after waiting for 1 hour for my turn I was told, "not finished yet, come back next week"

I pointed out that I could not do that as I was leaving for England on 31st May and asked if the date in my passport could be extended to a date after my return on 1st July.

"Cannot do. Come back on 6th June and if still not finished we will stamp your passport with another 30 days".

Clenching my teeth I reiterated that on 6th June I would be in England and the officer then realised she could not deal with the problem and passed me over to a senior officer.

I had taken a copy of my airline ticket to prove that I was indeed travelling on 31st and the officer said, "Why do you have to go on 31st May. Why not wait until you application is finished"?!!!

I politely pointed out that I was travelling to attend my grand daughters Christening, when what really wanted to say was "What the f@#k sort of answer is that".

The officer then said that if I was prepared to go to Bangkok Imm she would write out a note for the woman who was (not) processing my application asking her to deal with it immediately and fax the approval to her whereupon she would stamp my passport with the 1 year extension of stay.

I aked why she could not just pick up the phone and explain my problem to the lady and ask her to do this but she said "Cannot" so at 6am the next morning I left in a taxi for BKK imm and at 8.15 I was sitting outside room 509 with ticket No.1 waiting to see Khun Ratjana who I hoped would help me, armed with the note that I had been given by the officer in Pattaya.

After reading the note Khun Ratjana said to me "Why you come here"? <deleted>!!!

I patiently went through the problem with her and after 5 minutes the penny dropped and she went to another lady's desk and found my application which she said they would work on immediately and that I should go to Pattaya Imm. that afternoon by which time they will have faxed the aurhority.

My obvious elation was soon shattered as the 2nd lady called out something to her which resulted in her coming back to me and saying that they could not finish it that day and to leave it until Friday to go back to Pattaya Imm.

I pleaded with her to do it earlier pointing out that I was leaving for the airport on Saturday evening and I needed some assurance that all had been resolved but she said "Yours is a special case and we need time to show it to our boss who has to sign the approval". Bear in mind the application was submitted on 27th March.

So here I sit in limbo land getting more and more disillusioned with Thailand and fed up with the total indifference that I have experienced from the Thai authorities and frustrated that there is no point in asking to speak to a higher authority as I am just another Farang trying to do things legally about whom they do not give a flying f@#k!

I am going to Pattaya Imm this afternoon in the hope that by some miracle they may have already faxed the consent but I will not hold my breath!!

  17. My Wife tells me that the stamp is a big overstay problem. She cannot explain exactly.

    It says:

This person was brought to trial on the charge of overstaying (literally - staying past the limit of their permission). The court's final decision was to give them leave to get out of the country by 15th May.

    Your wife could be right...

I overstayed by three years and read advice on here saying I must go to immigration in Suan Phluu and settle it there or I could be in real trouble at the airport. I went down there with a lawyer friend and luckily they told me to b****r off and pay it at the airport. So a morning wasted, but the only stamp I had in my passport was the standard overstay fine one.

I still thought it wise to get a new passport, as I didn't think it would look good when presenting it at the Thai consulate in the UK for a new visa! With a stamp like this one, saying you were charged with overstaying, I would definitely replace the passport.

Out of interest, how much was your fine for 3 years overstay?

At 500 baht per day that would work out at 547,500 baht or is there a maximum fine?

  18. I don't understand the 27th of March to June 6th dates. If it was an extension the most would be a 60 day extension to visit your wife.

The normal stamp is for 30 days while they consider your application and it is not an extension. You cannot even get a re-entry permit during that time if your permit to stay has already run out.

I think if look very closely at the stamp and your permit to stay you find that you do not have an extension.

You need to go to immigration and get this sorted out.

If not and you do leave. You should get a single entry non-o to use when you come back and then get a your account back to 400K and then apply for the extension again after 2 months.

Here is the chronology of my passport which makes sense of the dates.

I surrendered my work permit on 4th March but only got the surrender form 2 days later from my ex employer and went to Pattaya Immigration on 6th March where they duly charged me 1,000 baht for 2 days överstay as they said I should have attended there on the day I surrendered the work permit.

After paying the fine I paid 1,900 baht for 60 day extension as I informed them that I wanted to apply for married persons extension, but the 400,000 baht would not have been in my account for 2 months until 26th March. They stamped my passport with expiry date 6th May as apparently married persons get up to 60 days.

Upon applying for the married persons extension on 27th March they then stamped my passport with a further 30 days from 6th May which is why I now have the 6th June date in my passport.

The stamp to this reads "Application for extension of stay is under consideration. Applicant must contact again on 6th June 2009"

  19. If you leave without getting your extension stamped in your passport you will have to do it all over again.

You currrently don't have an extension it is just a period of limbo while they consider your application.

Has your current permit to stay expired? Do you have a multiple entry visa or did you have an extension of stay?

The normal wait time is 30 days. Pattaya is playing games with marriage extension applications. We have had reports where people waited far longer than normal.

My original Non Imm B was a single entry issued in Vientiane on 25 Feb 2008 and I subsequently recieved a work permit on which I obtained extension of stay for business purposes.

Sadly the company I was working for went bust and upon surrendering my work permit I paid 1900 baht for a 30 day extension of stay until I got together the required documents for the married persons application.

As previously stated, this was submitted on 27th March and Immigration stamped my paspsort with a further extension of stay until 6th June when I will be in England.

As I understand it they are obliged to keep extending the period until a descision is given from BKK but I am not sure whether they are obliged to do this for more than 30 days at a time. It is a catch 22 situation as obviously I willl not be here on 6th June for them to give me a further stamp and if they do it before I leave for 30 days it will expire before I return.

My main concern about having to re apply is that after the application was submitted, I had to draw on some of the 400,000 baht I had in a special account for the purpose to pay for an urgent operation my wife needed and although I can bring funds back from the UK, they will have to be deposited for 2 months which presumably means I will have to get a new Non Imm O to start all over again.

Do you think they have a special slow pile for those that decline the "4,000 baht and get it in 2 days"offer?

  20. On 27th March I applied for married persons extension of stay based on my Non Imm B visa which I originally had for work purposes.

I went to Pattaya Immigration with my wife and the miriad of things that they needed to process the application and after ticking all the boxes the officer took my fee of 1900 baht and told me that the application is sent to BKK and would be back in about a month.

I decllined her offer of "2 day service for an extra 4,000 baht as clearly that was an under the table arrangement"and as she had stamped my passport with an extension of stay until 6th June pending result of married persons application I had no concerns.

Due to the Red shirts activities and Songkran, I guessed that the appplication would not be completed by the end of April so I left it until last week to go back only to be told it was stilll not finished and I should go back this week which I am unable to do as I am at my house in Khon Kaen until Sunday.

My dilemma is that I am due to fly to England on 31st May and the 6th June extension currently in my passport will expire while I am away. Obviously I am hoping that when I go to Pattaya Imm on Monday all will finalised but my query is if for some reason it is not done before I travel will Pattaya Imm give me a further stamp in my passport which will cover me for my UK trip which I am not due to return from until 1st July.

I appreciate that I need a re entry permit and having already obtained the form it refers to my visa expiry date which currently is 6th June.

I imagine that Immigration have an appropriate procedure for such cases but I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience of this scenario.
