Thats why i said 06:00.  when it went 36.97.   1580398722_ScreenShot2019-08-12at08_27_31.png.e5609216520d5bc7f8566621bd1b0a8f.png

Moved some more sterling out at 37.32 today then dropped a bit.. feels like playing blackjack at the moment.  but as long as Boris and the brexit clowns keep ‘delivering’ I’m getting face/aces first card (I’m a staunch remoaner btw if you haven’t guessed but I’m trying to make the best of a bad situation - my Thai wife and son deserve the best I can give them)

Both are true. The pound after the Asian financial crisis in 1998 rose from the high 50s to the mid 70s and then fell back a bit, averaging rates in the high 60s for around a decade. The slight downturn between 2004-7 was nothing to do with the huge impact on the pound of the 2008 financial crash, clearly visible in the chart above. Subsequently it made quite a respectable recovery to around 53+ but the Brexit vote killed this overnight and has wiped 30% off it's pre-referendum value.

And Bozo Du pfeffel has contributed 10% of that in less than a month.  Sub-30 be the new norm soon.  Friday evening’s graph looks like the north face of the eiger.

I know it’s low season, but the British pubs in Bangkok are unusually quiet at the moment. Is the exchange rate starting to bite now?

36.64 today.  it fell off a cliff last night.

When are the brexit tin-foil hat wearing cultists going to accept it’s a huge factor.

Sterling has plummeted against every non basket case currency.  Expect sub euro, dollar parity and 30 baht, rate it’s going

When I first came to live in Thailand the exchange rate was Bt70 to the £1 sterling , now it has dropped to about Bt38 , which is a pitiful amount as compared to before . To have a higher valued Baht looks good , but is it good for the economy . Thailand used to be popular for cheap exotic holidays in the sun , but today there are other places more appealing for the money .

To be fair it's still cheap compared to UK.

Currently back in Leeds UK contracting and it's shocking how expensive it is.

300 baht for basic thai meal (pad krapow gai etc) that would be 30 baht in Saraburi.

2-3K baht for massage.  again 300 baht back home.

Thai ingredients from the 'nong fern' market in Leeds: extortionate.

(mentioning 'thai things' because my missus when over here buys them)

    but big spends too:

property 15-20MB for something you could get built for 2MB in Saraburi.

then add in all the council tax, VAT, petrol, road tax etc etc.

  5. depends what you want to do.  rained daily in saraburi but we've spent most time doing 'indoor' activities (house renovation, shopping, eating out, visiting temple and so on).  at least it's otherwise hot and the rain does stop for a bit in Thailand.  Been back in Leeds UK recently for work and it's just been cold, drizzly and grey all the time.

All these rules ... you would think it was a nice place ...

it is, it's got some lovely golden temples, Robinson lifestyle, monkeys in Lopburi and stuff.

Shame both our 'hostile environment' and Thai bureaucracy overdrive makes it an

increasingly miserable experience VISA wise, for us farangs already crazy enough to marry and start families with thai women ????
