Sorry, but I take exception to the fact that you say every farang who picks up rubbish must have some kind of brain damage!!!

You have obviously never heard of doing your 'civic duty'.

I picked up rubbish in the UK and deposited in the nearest bin.  I also clean a small portion of the beach where I go four days a week.

attitudes like yours make me want to VOMIT!!!

I drove a few kilometers outside of Phuket into a side road last weekend
beautiful view, mountains in the ocean but when I was driving something

started to stink, I go on and look around and there behind the trees 100-200 meters from the bay, from this blue water,a rubbish dump like a football field probably protected only by trees.

I can show you where it is on the map ... and you can go there
and enjoy collecting what the wind will blow around back to the pile.

My country has gone from dirty to clean in 30 years..no clowns needed ...

an efficient administration was enough !
One thing comes to mind when I see a foreigner collecting trash on the beach

or on the road in Thailand .... "stupid is who stupid does"

Yes, this is a great idea, I would be happy to pay 500 BHT upon entering.

This tax can be paid with your ticket.

It does need admin, if it is used properly, and many countries use a tax upon arrival or leaving then it is good for all.

The only thing I see as a problem is that if you are staying on long term then they may treat that as freeloading on the system.

However if you can only stay one year at a time, then maybe the fee should be paid with visa renewals as well.

There would be plenty in the kitty @ 500BHT per person.

They could plow the excess into improving hospitals for Thailand as well.

Could be enough to mount a road safety campaign, get some speed cameras on the highways and police.

    Maybe that's a dreammmmmm.

a bucket of naivety...such stupidity of an individual
      harms the general

No matter how much you pay, you will get something back only if

you pay 10 times as much as it is worth ... so you will get 50 baht

for your 500 baht at best.

Has anyone heard anything about what happened to Big Joke and his current status? There seems to have been a very effective attempt keep everything concerning his ‘reign’ out of the public eye and there has been little, if any, discussion or questions asked.

If you need a daily dose of xenophobia go to the nearest airport and ask

for one of his cardboard images which they probably have in stock .

No, il think that what they mean is an extra tax to pay the debt left by foreigners who are not insured. Not a travel insurance !!! This seems  logical and  Correct. To be  used to pay unpaid bills . A good idea, put the  100 Baht as an extra tax on every flight ticket and name it something different , debt tax for example ( only an example) not to confuse travellers. Honestly, what is a 100 B when buying a flight ticket costing 1000b ? Personally, I think it’s a good idea. It’s NOT a travel insurance, and if I had any say in it, I would make compulsory travel insurance for all tourists. No sensible person  Travels without one.

are you  always so excited when you give away money without receiving

    anything in return ?

Add to your previous sums the revenue gained from tourist spending and the losses as a percentage of tourism revenue become so insignificant as to not merit any mention. I hope the 100 baht tariff backfires and tourists look elsewhere for their holidays.

Fat chance of long term expats benefitting from a 100 baht tariff, more likely that 100 baht will be an additional cost to the insurances etc.

The first time I arrived in SEA I chose Thailand only because I did not have

to pay $ 25-30 for a visa... in Thailand I could get 30 days for free.
These small amounts count when people planning a trip .
I stayed 15 days then and spent 50,000 baht without an air ticket.
Thailand was smart and enterprising ... now is completely stupid.
