Whenever I call Bangkok Bank I select '0' to speak to someone in English. Then I get connected to someone that does not speak English. Then after asking to speak to someone who speaks English, it is always at least a 15 minute hold time. Has anyone else experienced this?
This would not be a big problem, but I am going to be traveling overseas and if I need to contact Bangkok Bank it will cost me a lot of money.

I am aware that there is quick Covid testing for arrivals into Bangkok Airport. I will be departing Bangkok Airport on March 15th. I was told by the Airport Call Center to go to 'Chularat 9 Airport Hospital'. But their results take 24 hours.
I will be staying at a hotel close to the Airport. Does anyone know if there is a hospital that has quick Covid testing close to the airport?
Thanks for any help.

I had a strange "Correction" thing happen today at Bangkok Bank. I wanted to transfer all of my money from my Bangkok Bank direct deposit account to my Bangkok Bank savings account. My accounts were opened at a Chiang Mai branch, but today I did the transfer at a Bangkok branch. I think maybe the strange (deposit-withdraw-deposit) transactions are because the branches are in different provinces.
01 Mar 2021 10:57 - "Cash Deposit"
--- instead of a transfer they withdrew my money then made a cash deposit.
01 Mar 2021 11:59 - "Correction for No-Book Cash Deposit"
--- then they withdrew all of my money.
01 Mar 2021 12:00 - "Transfer to/from SAV"
--- then they re-deposited all of my money.Scary how they withdraw all of your money out of your bank account and transfer it back in. I hope I don't need to be concerned about this, because this is all of the money I have.

I ended up leaving yesterday. All was ok on train for small dog and 150cc Yamaha. No sleeper car with dog, had to ride in 3rd class.
All seems cool in Bangkok, does not seem to be a lockdown. I wear my mask at all times.
-
Hello, I am planning to travel by train, but might need to ride my motorbike if the train does not allow my dog and motorbike.
Just wondering if I my might have any problems due to Covid restrictions, while traveling by train or motorbike, and once I am in Bangkok?
ps: I have the MorChana app installed on my phone.

If my retirement extension visa expires after I am gone from Thailand, could this cause a problem with my bank accounts not staying active and accessible online outside of Thailand?
-
I think I have a simi-secure international banking solution figured out:
2 savings accounts (SCB and BKK Bank)
2 ATM cards at each account (4 ATM cards total)
Online banking both banks (funds transfer between banks)
Phone Apps for both banks (funds transfer between banks)
My only question now, will Thai Bank phone apps work in Mexico?

You should always have a backup so at the very least open another account in Thailand you can transfer the money into on line should you lose the ATM card for example.
I was going to get a back ATM card, but another Bank account as a backup is a great idea.
Thanks! -
After trying to also find any warnings on other posts, it seems to be ok to leave my Bangkok Bank savings account open, to access online from Mexico. Also on the Bangkok Bank website it says "You can also withdraw cash from any ATM anywhere in the world where you see the PLUS or VISA logo".
It still makes me worry leaving all my savings accessible online and my only access to my money is my ATM card.

Costa Rica
I tried Costa Rica for 3 months. It was boring. It would be good for people that want to sit around at a resort by the beach all day ????

I feel sure that you meant a pre-paid credit card, not debit card. I sorted out pre-paid "Revolut" cards for my kids when they were travelling. The plus point was obviously that the only risk you are exposed to is the amount on the card, but they did have some good features - You can lock the card instantly via your mobile app if you lose, or misplace it and then if you find it again you can unlock it instantly too. Top ups are also instant from anyone who has the app, so in my particular case I could just top them up when they needed money. One of the major bad points was that they couldn't be used in a lot of ATMs to withdraw cash, especially in Thailand although they didn't have many issues in other Asian countries. It may be worth you checking on the ATM situation in Mexico (probably not an issue). I have recently moved to transferring money to Thailand via transferwise, as their exchange rate is good, their fees are low and they transfer the money very quickly, however although I have never used their pre-paid credit card I would consider them if they are as good as their transfer service.
Yep, a pre-paid credit card is what I meant. I will probably end up just keeping my Bangkok Bank savings account open. Sounds right what you said "plus point was obviously that the only risk you are exposed to is the amount on the card". It worries me having most of my money in a online savings account. I plan to carry the allowable amount of cash on the plane and open a bank account asap in Mexico.

Transferwise, no?
Travelwise sounds like a good option. But I think will just leave my Bangkok Bank savings account open and use my ATM until my money is finished.

Since you are moving, open a Mexican bank account and get debit card - see BanaMex
Get a debit Mastercard from opening a TravelWise account?
I would need to be in Mexico to open a bank account.
TravelWise might work best and they will have the debit card in Mexican Peso, which is good.

It does, but you need to set it up while you are still here. They may request a work permit or proof of incoming funds.
I called Bangkok Bank. They said a work permit is needed for a foreigner. I have social security direct deposit, so it would be great if that would work. I will go to the bank and talk to the manager.

You would have more protection if you can arrange or have a credit card.
One of the big CC companies can arrange the movement of any existing monies.
Watch the local banks they can be mercenary
Best of Luck
Actually I have a credit card through Bangkok Bank. It required a 20,000 baht deposit. I was going to return it before I leave. But maybe worth hanging on to in Mexico.
I will stay away from local banks. I only plan to use a larger bank in Mexico city.
Thanks.

There is a complication though. I learned that Bangkok Bank does not allow online international transfers to banks that are not in Thailand. I was planning to transfer my money to a Mexican bank.
I guess maybe just find the cheapest ATM's in Mexico and get my money that way, over the next year.

No problem. Carry on as normal.
Great, I guess no problemo for Bangkok Bank online banking outside of Thailand.

Is it ok to just leave my Bangkok Bank savings account open and use online banking, after moving away from Thailand. Or will Bangkok Bank maybe not let me do any online bank transfers, while outside of Thailand?
Thanks so much for any advice.

I only have a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand that I will be closing. So to avoid carrying too much cash I am trying to find the best prepaid debit card for use in Mexico.
There are many options online or maybe I could get a prepaid card in Thailand?Any advice is much appreciated.

I can't really imagine that this would be a problem. But if you worry about it, instead of taking the usual route you could also take route 1349 to "Wat Chan", and then continue on 1265 until "Paeng", then turn left on this small road which doesn't have a number on Google maps but leads to Pai. It's also a nice route, will of course take you quite some more time than the standard route, but there won't be any checkpoint.
great suggestion! - thanks

Thanks for all your helpful replies. Bringing all of her vaccination history is a good idea.
Maybe I will try to somehow contact the check point,. But it does not seem they would have a problem with a small chihuahua. And I am ok with a small fee ????
-
I want to ride my motorcycle from Chiang Mai to Pai, with my small dog. But I once heard the Pai check point won't let you bring a dog into Pai?
Also, anyone know if there are problems entering Pai due to the corona virus?

Your current extension was done before the new rules went into effect. You were not required to comply with them for this past year.
I am in Chiang Mai, it has been 45 days in advance for the retirement extension.
You are so helpful ubonjoe!
ps: would you happen to know where I can print out this announcement from the Thai govt. To show to Thai Immigration, if they question me about it?

I called Japan Airlines and the Chularat 9 Hospital and asked them about a 'Fit To Fly' certificate, and neither seemed to know what it is.
Did you read somewhere that it is currently needed?
