Concerning BRICS and their proposed gold-backed currency: The US government holds more gold than all the BRIC countries combined. And the two main BRIC countries that hold of most of the BRIC gold are Russia and China. You gonna trust them to pony up the gold if you're holding their new currency and decide you want your gold instead ? Further China and Russia are in serious decline economically, demographically and culturally. And from a rule of law standpoint, have fun with how most of the BRIC countries' conduct their systems of justice. And don't dismiss the military strength of the US compared to all the BRIC countries combined. The USA is not the shining example either, but its shirt is cleaner than those of the BRIC countries. But if you want to trust a BRIC currency over the US$, knock yourself out.

    Gotta love yanks

Nice of him to tell Bloomberg that Thailand has no problem including convicted criminals in the government. But they already knew that, by past/present experience. Spreading Thainess to the world's media. Great image to promote.

    Bloomberg facts, yeah

North America doesn’t have any problem allowing criminals to run their country, yeah

Spreading North American lies, total hypocrisy and ignorance to the world’s media, yeah

Great unjustified exceptionalism image to promote, yeah

according to chatgpt, 2 standard glasses of red wine per day would be considered moderate drinking for a male.

They also said it could have benefits.

It's within the safe range of alcohol consumption, apparently.

In Thailand not good for your bank balance. I love a good red but…

The whole true story courtesy of CNN? Isn’t that an oxymoron?

  5. Ah yes,

    The children in charge.

The American government along with UK government are an opportunity for everybody to witness how stupid governments can be and still be in charge.

it just doesn’t get any more pathetic than these two.

Sure people can have their opinions of other governments and the way they’re structured and work, but these two are snacking everybody in the face to wake up and look at why their demise is inevitable.

Its the voting public that will cop the brunt of the stupidity

Do you think every single person that has ever moved to Thailand has had a positive experience?

    Do your assumptions matter?

    You sound very angry?

Of course everyone’s experiences can be different. As adults however, controlling outcomes are up to the individual. If you have had a bad experience in Thailand then perhaps you can use that as a positive for future experiences.

My grievance is the use of racism as justification for a bad individual life experience

  8. Whilst i agree with what you are saying, that there is an anti foreigner vibe coming from the top, down at the bottom of the pyramid, money is money, at the end of the day.

It seems that they forget about TM30, financials, and likely insurances, for a price.

For people that really want to stay in Thailand, and are willing to put up with it, it may come as a viable option. Perhaps better than "i need to move back home, I have no other options".

One only has to read TV on a reasonably sporadic basis to be enlightened enough to know what type of farang they want to exclude.

  9. Well the Baht may well be too strong against the USD I agree but the other side of the currency pairing that forms half of the "bottom line" has absolutely nothing to do with Thailand
Sterling/Dollar Euro/Dollar AUD/Dollar etc.....until those ratios improve and for Brits obviously Brexit has sunk Sterling than some tough times ahead. I can see Sterling improving but not the Euro and AUD and those currencies form a huge part of traditional visitors

When it comes to the AUD I see a different analogy. If the AUD continues to stay low, which seems to be the case, then you will have tourists from Australia who would normally travel to EU, USA etc are likely to come to SEA instead, due to that devaluation.

  10. I remember being in Udon Thani, on the way to Vientiane, during the Global Financial Crisis.  The farang establishments in Udon Thani were quite busy at that time, as many of the foreigners had to move back to the village because they could no longer afford to live in the tourist areas in the south.

Issan cities, towns and villages may see a similar influx in the near future, as many face affordability issues again.

The Isaan area is constantly developing and when the rail system and freeways are completed people will start moving to these areas. As long as the right sort of development follows the infrastructure Isaan will become more popular. The tourist areas are suffering from overkill. This kind of development has happened all over the world and whilst not always successful it is inevitable. The tourist areas and Bangkok are already becoming too expensive for many. If an option arises that includes high speed rail and quality housing at liveable rate then people will move. I’m not talking tourism here, I’m talking lifestyle for residents. Interestingly though, there are plenty of opportunities to develop tourist related development. Thailand, like all of Asia is moving into the future. It has to.

  11. your body starts deteriorating much faster as you age. 10 years is a huge difference after 40. when your younger you dont notice it much.

apart from the obvious aches and pains and little john issues, also ability to be happy in a new location and mental adaptability. can lead to various hardships and resulting complaining about things as well.

That is true generally but if you have the initiative and drive you can channel all your energy into prolonged health and not be concerned about a high bank balance on your death bed. I’ve witnessed so many die having a great bank balance but an unadventurous life. I’m 67 and feel plus dare I say look 15 years younger because at the end of the day happiness and health overrides the bank balance
