What is the benefit of the 5 year retirement visa
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Yes, it is mine.
Answer to your second question (kind of): I received my O-X Visa from the DC office and will comply with their requirement/s.
I’ll keep 3 million baht (and then some) in a Thai bank account while holding the O-X Visa during its duration (10 years) or until they modify the requirements. Although I have no problem meeting the "or" part of the requirement (or a bank deposit of no less than 1.8 million bahts and annual income of no less than 1.2 million bahts) I prefer the straight 3 million baht compliance than producing more paperwork/documents (trust issues with someone viewing more of my financial documents and having possession of my ID/passport).
One more thing, I am not posting here to show support, defend or promote an O-X Visa. The O-X Visa not for everyone. I held an O-A Visa for years and it worked well for me.
However the O-X has been and I believe will be better as time progresses, For Me. F filling out that O-A form yearly and waiting for blood results/a criminal background check to be returned (which was a two week wait and only cost 24.00 and no finger printing required https://www.fdle.state.fl.us/Criminal-History-Records/Record-Check )/then returning to the doctor’s office to get him to sign the release after the blood result tests where in was a pain and it restricted my movement/s.
For me, the worst part about an O-A Visa was sending my passport out to the Thai Embassy in Washington by US mail at times (or at times I would go to the Thai Embassy in person if I was in DC) and waiting up to two weeks to get it back when I’m in the states for such a short period of time each year. That ritual is down to once every 5 years now. That and I have trust issues. F that mailman/person and everyone who comes in contact with that package which holds my passport and some financial documents.
Now, I can come and go most anywhere and at any time knowing I have my passport with me. So visiting the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Peru or even Belize at the drop of a hat while in the states can be taken when the Thai girlfriend (on her second ten year US tourist Visa) feels the need to get away from South Florida during the short time we are visiting.
Your stamp should reflect the time you received the O-X Visa. Mine was received March 2018,……so the stamp will reflect 5 years after that date.
