You have to watch out, people there ride in all directions, including against traffic, and on sidewalks, so don't expect them to follow neat and obedient traffic rules like in Europe. And I have to admit I've also followed them on the sidewalk in Bkk.

Was that farang drunk? He seemed so slow moving... This was nothing that he should have exposed his daughter to.

Thai authorities should have allowed O-A visa entry at the same time it allowed work visas and O married visas. On the other hand most other countries have also blocked inbound travel except for citizens. Luckily now it looks like O-A visas are allowed in.
-
I checked other countries like Japan, Vietnam and New Zealand, and they are also closed to outsiders... so Thailand is no worse. On the other hand, they could open up to O and O-As and other visa types as long as they do the ASQ thing and basically prove that they don't have Covid and will pay for the cost. It's just a case of handling the numbers with what resources are available.

Thailand has been very successful protecting their people from Covid. They can pursue stealing manufacturing away from China as Vietnam has done. Also it seems to me that the average Thai can lay low back in their home village until tourism returns next October. The gov't can provide food subsidies to help the poor get by until then.

Other countries are shutdown to international visitors... such as Vietnam, New Zealand, etc So why should Thailand be first to open up? Europe won't allow Americans... and I'm an American, so its looking bad for me going anywhere!

There should be a way to allow retirement visa holders and applicants to return to Thailand, even from high risk countries, using testing and quarantines. How can they sell condos to them and not let them back in? There are Thai families depending on them, like in my case and I've been locked out for 7 months and still waiting. This is nothing unique to Thailand as many other countries are locked down to international travel as well.

Let in the Non-O-As and others with people and property in Phuket.

I guess Thailand will wait until a vaccine is available... I just hope they give it to the elderly and healthcare workers first.

Thai people need to decide how scared they are of Covid. Why can't they allow O-A visa holders to come back in if they were stuck outside. Many with relationships who are younger would want to return if a visa similar to tourist visa would be allowed. They need to crank up the ASQs and testing.

Who got 500 baht insurance? That must be for two weeks not a year! ????

Thailand should begin to allow Non-Imm O-A Visa holders to return to Thailand. They chose Thailand to live in and either rent property or buy property there and support loved ones. This can be done safely, we can be tested and quarantined at our own expense, no need to panic, this can be done safely.

O-A Visa holders do spend a lot of money in Thailand, buying or renting condos, villas or houses, cars, motorbikes, furniture, paying for emergencies with extended Thai family (cough).
-
This makes sense as a starting point... Few will take advantage of this except for those like me who want to return to loved ones and homes there. They will probably find that the $100,000 insurance is too much coverage and will reduce it as they figure out how much it really costs to treat the worst covid cases.
-
This is no different than many other countries approach. Hopefully they will start to open up for O-A visa people who want to return to their homes and people in Thailand.

I wish they would allow O-A visa holders to re-enter Thailand... some have homes there and unofficial families there (like me) but got stuck outside. I guess thats the cost of not making the family official!

I’m glad this is so funny to so many <deleted>. ????

It would help if Thai authorities would allow O-A retirement visa holders to re-enter Thailand like O visa holders. Some of us got stuck outside the Kingdom and have been waiting for four months to get back in. Some of us own property and also have loved ones waiting.
-
First I think Thailand should let in the people on O-A visas, who are long stay and not tourists. O-A Retirees can pay for tests and quarantine and have close ties to people and loved ones in Thailand. Some of us got stuck outside and are trying to get back. Tourists can come later.

"The curmudgeons of Thaivisa forum – now perched proudly on their bar stools not needing to socially distance from their Leo " - Hahaha!!! So True!

People say things won't go back to normal "ever", tourists will stay away "forever"... thats a long time and its silly to say that. Two years or so, yeah I could see that. Thai people can get by until things start to come back. They have much more patience than westerners, seems to me.

People with O-A retirement visa should be allowed back in with the usual precautions. We should get priority over tourists.

Thai tourism industry will never be allowed to recover to pre-COVID levels
