You can sample some of the US ethnic foods in Pattaya but be quick, next week they might all be already closed. Last rib standing.

Found a great American smokehouse in Bangkok, near Patpong. Very authentic, great ribs and slaw. Their smokers had cost them a fortune. Doubt if there is anything like that in Pattaya.

People are welcome to post about all sorts of restaurants in the Pattaya area. Of course Thai restaurants as well. Yes there are mentions of Thai restaurants on this thread but its a very long thread and older information will of course be dated, talking about closed places etc.

I would like to see more Thai restaurant items as well. But not Kiss. Kiss has been done to death.

That said if this thread isn't cutting it for you no problem. It's not required reading.

I very recently posted a mini review of a great restaurant in Pattaya, serving Thai/Japanese fusion food. Fell on deaf ears.

This thread would be cutting it for me, I eat out a lot, love to hear about restaurants in my area, if it didn't focus on Chinese (really authentic Chinese food is not to my or most peoples taste) Korean, unless you include moo kata which Thais claim isn't Korean anyway, or Indian as there are no good/authentic Indian restaurants in Pattaya.

Almost 5000 posts. I think this thread has lost the plot and run its course.

Yes there seem to be very few actual reviews of restaurants. What few there are are for Chinese, Korean and Indian food. I think that the best food in Thailand is Thai food. Would appreciate more reviews on restaurants serving Thai food. Either that or call it a day.

O delices Jomtien was selling it. Not sure if they still are.

People are intentionally missing the point about the mention of San Francisco so I now see its necessary to spell it out.

Pattaya is not famous for food.
    San Francisco is.

Very few foodies travel to Pattaya for the food.

Many foodies travel to San Francisco for the food.

So the comment I originally made that O Delices would be considered good in San Francisco wasn't specially about San Francisco.

    It was a comparison.

Of a city not famous for food to a city that is famous for food.

A way of saying that I do not think most people expect food shops as excellent as O Delices will be found in Pattaya a city not famous for food.

I could have replaced San Francisco for any global city famous for food.

Paris? I do not know it. I am not French. Perhaps some Frenchmen can tell us whether this place would be considered good in Paris. Yes I imagine the competition with French food specifically is most intense there.

Sorry, as a European, i would have associated New York as famous for it's food, particularly ethnic European food.

Excuse my ignorance, I must have been watching too many movies and not visiting the place.

I do highly recommend O Delices in Jomtien Complex.

It's amazing that we have such a high quality shop in the Pattaya area. Kudos to the owners for taking the risk that the local market would appreciate and pay for the quality they offer.

BTW -- I posted an error before. They don't close at 4 PM, they close at 6 PM. But I have heard that they stop doing hot meals at 4 PM though I don't know that from personal experience.

But what has San Francisco got to do with quality boulangeries? When I think of great boulangeries, I think of Paris, Nice, Marseilles even, San Francisco isn't the first place that comes to mind.

  6. 3 hours ago, Jingthing said:

No! They close at 4 pm. You've got your own mind but my advice is that if you're going to one place only in that complex go to O Delices first. Its a place that would be considered excellent in San Francisco.

And that's a recommendation for a boulangerie how? Not a problem for me, I'll be at home before 4pm, sandwich in the fridge.

They have French sandwiches as well and much more. Check it out.

Well if their true French sandwiches they'll be cheese and ham baguettes. Once spent a week wandering around Paris and cheese and ham baguettes were pretty much all that was on offer in sandwich shops. You could have cheese, ham or cheese and ham!

My usual MO is to have a large lunch then pick up a sandwich for supper. Tinnies for lunch and O Delices for a take away sandwich and a loaf of bread could be just the ticket.

Up to you but I recommend saving room for dessert at O Delices French bakery on the same street.

It does sound really nice, but I prefer something more substantial than a continental breakfast. Puddings are a no no for me. Been getting addicted to Bake'n Brew lately, for lunch. Croque Madame is almost as good as the real thing. Bought some nice bread from there too.

Off to Jomtien this week. 90 day report and lunch. Will have a mooch round that area.

    Well don't go then.

OK thanks for the advice, helpful as always. Actually, I'd kinda decided that myself.

Just thought that others might want to see the food that some rate as the best breakfast in Pattaya. I was seriously thinking of giving it a try which is why I clicked on your link. Lucky escape. Thanks again.

BTW. Still not sure of the exact location of Tinnies. On or near Tappraya, close to Pratumnak is the best I can do.

Do you need a health insurance when living in a foreign country, or do you demand that the country should pay for you as a non citizen?

Neither. I self fund or return to my own country for significant medical care. Works for me.

Thailand has come to the conclusion that they pay for too many foreigners that have accidents and get sick here and can´t pay for themselfs.

    Very rarely happens, if ever.

  11. When I first moved to Thailand I bought a TV from them. The assistant blatantly lied about the specification of the TV.

A few days ago, I went there to do a price comparison for a new TV that I'm interested in buying. Lazada way cheaper for the same TV.

Thank you for your report. I'll be presenting my Australian Embassy letter that I obtained in the first week of January (last day they issued them on Jan 4) for a retirement extension application next week and I was concerned about whether they would accept it or not. I have no TM30, only a TM28.

I've never had a TM30 or TM28. Never been asked for them at Jomtien.

I did called an agent.  Was quoted 5000B. So i chose to deal with it myself. I have  a week and have to goto Bangkok anyway.

I got a photocopied letter complete with vice consul's signature from Key Visa for 150 baht. Walked in, paid my money and walked out with the letter. Immigration didn't even want me to fill my details in.
