  1. I dont think anyone here really has any knowledge of what a good suit is. All of these Indian tailors are just scam artists, they have no knowledge of tailoring and just send the orders off to 1 of 3 sweat factories in Bangkok who deal with everyone. It costs them about 1500 baht in materials to make these supposed 'suits' and another 150 baht for the sweatshop labor.

What amazes me is that most foreigners seem to be unable to tell the difference between silk and polyester, all of the rubbish they pass off as silk is cheap polyester which is the worst material to wear in a hot climate.

I personally get my suits made in HK, Tokyo is also good during sale time.

    I couldn't agree more.

While the suits I have made in Hong Kong are not cheap... probably the same price as a good suit in America, they are truely Bespoke! My tailor from Hong Kong comes to the USA 2 times a year and takes orders in a hotel room and 4-6 weeks later the clothes appear! Almost as good as in Hong Kong itself!!!

  2. Hate to say it, but everytime I have ordered custom clothes in Bangkok I have been dissappointed. I always have had much much better luck with some of the higher end spots in Hong Kong. I know these are typically more expensive, but at the end of the day, there is a certain level of you get what you pay for. Sort of like comparing the Mens warehouse and Brooks Brothers.... or Nordstom.... in the USA.

    Just my 2 cents....

  3. The tuk tuk drivers all know the best tailors and will drive you there. Afterwards, they'll set you up with some nice jewelry too at one of the numerous jewelry shops. :o

On a more serious note, I heard there are good tailors in Hong Kong. Cheap prices and good craftsmanship. Anyone else validate?

Yes! I have used a tailor (allbeit not cheap) in Hong Kong for many years. Ying Tai. They also come to the USA twice a year to take new measurements and allow you to purchase new clothes which are then mailed to you in a few weeks. Head and sholders above anything I have gotten in Thailand before.

  4. A 5000 baht suit simply isn't worth owning.

I couldn't agreed more. The material in a top end suit is going to cost more than 5000 baht, especially if you use top end fabric from italy or england. I think most of the tailors in BKK do not use true high quality english or italian wool or silk to make their products. I would like to be proven wrong, and directed to a really top end tailor shop. Please advise.

  5. I've never had a problem,as one poster says, with the cut or design of a suit - neither have any ofmy friends. If I want a slim fitted cut, that's what I ask for and thats what I get (maybe after a few fittings). Same goes for shoulders and anything else. Allowing the tailor to cut it the way he wants is asking for trouble.

I can also recommend Raja's on soi 4 who have a top reputation among the expat community, particularly the American crowd. For a cheaper suit but still nice material and tailoring I can recommend Louis on Suk between sois 8 & 10 - around 5000 baht.

Friends have used Rajawongse and say they are fine too.

If you really want top shelf, try Tanaka between sois 14 and 12.

I have had suits made in Thailand. None of the suits or shirts have been up to the same quality that I have found in a top end tailor shop in Hong Kong (Ying Tai in the Peninsula Hotel). Granted the prices in Thailand are an order of magnitude cheaper. Is there a place in Thailand that provides that level of quality, or is it just better to goto Hong Kong for this type of stuff?

  6. Hello,

We have taken groups on the river from the ShangriLa hotel to Suan Thip via boat and had a very nice dinner at the restaurant and then returned via boat back to the pier at the Shangrila.

Does anyone have any nice alternatives to Suan Thip along the river. Does not have to be extremely fancy, just good quality food, good service, and a nice setting along the river. Must be far enough along to enjoy the boat ride from the hotel.

    Thanks for any info.
