I replaced the air con in our (myself and wife) bedroom recently. I did this after I had a 20KW solar system with 20 panels installed. The old air con had the blower unit in the ceiling and so aesthetically it looked good. I noticed after installing the solar I would see the 20 KW batteries would be down to 20-30%  . I changed the bedroom to an invertor wall mount air con 12,000 BTU ( wasn't sure what the ceiling air con was as I couldn't find any numbers on it, I was told when I bought the house (2010) it was a 12,000 BTU unit). So monitoring the panel on the invertor I could see KWH and the invertor was 60% power use of  the ceiling air con using the same temp setting 27C and same run time.

I have since changed out 4 air cons at our other houses in Thailand for invertor air con.  Both the blower unit and compresssor unit are very quiet.. Besides saving money they cool off very quickly.

How are you getting 20KW out of 20 panels ?, Most panels are in the 400-500 watt range never heard of 1 KW panels before.

You refuse a gift from me? Don't you know who I am? I nearly always get nothing but deference from my people. You showed me none. How dare you! I am a big guy. A very important man. I am a Govt. minister! Such insubordination.

I sort of hated foreigners before. But now it is just too much. I just cannot deal with someone not treating me like a big wig. Foreigners go home. You do not know who I am!

  3. Ok morphic here;s my estimation

As a capital sum that needs to be invested at 3-4% per annum you need a min of $700,000

in my view that is by far not enough for a 45 year old because it does not factor in any inflation for the remaining statistical lifetime.

yield of 3.5% on $ 700k = $ 24,500 p.a. = THB 61,250 p.m = sufficient today to finance a comfortable but moderate lifestyle for a single male who does not waste to much money in bars.

assuming the above-mentioned amount is spent without using a part for re-investment combined with a rather conservative estimate of only 3% inflation rate the future looks quite bleak:

    age 45 .......... expenses 61,250

    age 55 .......... expenses 82,315

    age 65 .......... expenses 110,600

    age 75 .......... expenses 148,700

    age 85 .......... expenses 199.800

the picture looks of course quite different assuming a constant inflation of 3%, constant yield achieve of 6.5%, expenses limited to 3.5% and re-investment of 3% in order to compensate fully for inflation.

Working on these figures ie $2000 a month you need $800,0000

The caluations are based on 3% inflation and 4% yield on balance

of course you better hope you die on or before 85

Required Income (Current Dollars) $ 24000

Required Income (Future Dollars) $ 24000.00

Number of Years Until Retiring 0

Number of Years After Retiring 40

Annual Inflation (on Required Income) 3 %

Annual Yield on Balance 4 %

    You will need $ 800100.95

Year Beg Bal Withdraw Interest End Bal

  4. My girlfriend and I were going to get married back in July 2007 and I got the Affirmation of Freedom to Marry certificate from the UK Embassy and tranlation certified, I then kind of got cold feet and decided to put off the proposed marriage, Now we would like to get married I wonder if I can still use this affirmation or will it be "Out of date"

Can anyone answer this, Do you have to marry within a certain time of the affirmation ?

    Thanks

  5. Hello all,

I will be getting married to my TGF of 1 year in BKK in july and applying for a settlement visa to the UK, I will be traveling on a visa on arrival 30 days will that cause me any problems with the marriage or visa application and secondly I plan on staying 28 days, Will that be enough time to process her Settlement Visa application assuming its sucessfull.

    Many Thanks

  6. Never personally had a problem on Beach Rd, mind you almost tempted to try my luck on beach side, can't be any worse than the tailors.

Yep the bloody indian tailors are far more anoying than the ladybirds who generally take NO for an answer.

  7. Unlikely you can get by on $ 580 pm ( 20,000 Baht approx )

I aslo assume you have no lump sum set aside.

If you are over 50 you will not be able to comply with the

financial requirements for the Non O retirement visa.

If you are under 50 then you will now need to do overseas visa runs by air,

which are obviously much more expensive than the old border hops.

    Naka.

Tell me why would an under 50 have to do oversea visa runs ?with a Non O multlple entry visa you can just do a normal border visa run every 3 months cant you ?
