  1. The UK Government has refused to negotiate a social security agreement with Canada. This news was released on Maundy Thursday ahead of a long weekend and at the start of a parliamentary recess. We can only assume the timing was to ensure this arrogant refusal to even talk about an agreement was to ensure it did not receive public scrutiny.

  2. A response from one MP

Parliamentary procedure requires MPs to only take up cases for people who live in their constituency. If you are a resident of North Down and have not already done so, please provide your full name, address and a contact telephone number so that I can respond to your query.

If you live outside North Down, you will need to contact your local MP. If you are unsure who this is you can find out by entering your postcode here

I receive a huge volume of correspondence and I thank you for your patience and understanding as my small team and I handle your request. We will be back in touch ASAP, but please bear in mind that we sometimes have to triage and prioritise emergency cases.

Now you're dream"ing pipe dreams.  I'm sure the US will assign a Senator to Thailand to " deal with problems that overseas residents have concerning spousal visa and many other issues."  <laughs>  It's called an Ambassator, but if you haven't noticed?  They don't care about you at all.  You - citizen living in Thailand - are of no importance to your government at all.  Well, as long as you pay your taxes.

The people who live in Gibraltar were part of the SW England European  constituency.Of course the UK has left the EU now. Gibraltar has become part of the Schengen Area. https://www.etias.info/gibraltar-joins-schengen-after-brexit/                                                                                                         An overseas constituency is something that is possible.

Everyone's gone way of topic. The idea that 500000 expat pensioners would vote in a dedicated MP who would restore pension rights is vaguely ludicrous. Currently I am on the electoral role for Sevenoaks but although I stoically voted to stay in the EU and elect a socialist MP my vote is always wasted!

Other countries such as France have overseas representatves. In the 14th Legislature (2017–2022), Overseas France is represented by 27 deputies in the French National Assembly, accounting for 4.7% of the 577 deputies in the National Assembly: Réunion: 7. Guadeloupe: 4. Martinique: 4. A number of countries have MPs for their expat citizens. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overseas_constituency                                                   With the first past the post voting system many votes are wasted as it is only marginal constituecies that votes can make a difference. Westminster needs STV. https://www.electoral-reform.org.uk/

  5. This measure has support from other parties not just the Conservative Party. Labour is neutral on this question. Layla Moran of the Liberal Democrats strongly voiced her support of ending the 15  year voting rule.                                                                                                                                                                           The All Party Parliamentary Group(APPG) on the pensions recommended the unfreezing of state  pensions. http://frozenbritishpensions.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2020-APPG-report.pdf                                                                                   Liberal Democrats Overseas supports up grading state pensions where they are frozen as they are for those living in Thailand. https://www.libdemsoverseas.com/response_from_appg_on_frozen_pensions

Are these the same forecasters who predicted a 10% contraction of the UK economy if Brexit passed or different ones? It seems like "operation fear" is still not dead.

A no deal Brexit would have resulted in a contraction. However with this bare bones agreement rates of economic growth are projected to be lower.

Leads me to suspect that Boris is a "Russian asset."  Papa wants to be a French citizen.  France has always had a close relationship with Russia.  Boris is not exactly an Anglo-American name.

Come to think of it, there are a few apparent connections between our Boris and Boris Godunov, who began his political career in the court of Ivan the Terrible.

If only the Brits could "impeach" their leaders.....

Actually parliament can impeach individuals, normally holders of public office, for  high treason or other crimes. The last impeachment was that of Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville in 1806, since then other forms of democratic scrutiny have been favoured and the process has been considered as an obsolete- but still- extant power of parliament.

  8. Discussion of constitutional reform is not limited to Thailand.

British people living in Thailand may be interested in this item.

The UK’s Parliament’s committee for the constitution is surveying the public’s democracy priorities

The survey (to be completed before 2 November)
