  1. You can easily make your dog repelant spray by chopping up a few chillies and putting them into some vinegar. After a day put the vinegar through a strainer and pour the vinegar into a spray bottle. Set for a small circunference spary and you can usually shoot a stream of vinegar at their face up to 3-4 meters awy. The stinging of their face or eyes will deter even the most verocious dog. I have been in Thailand for 18 years and have seen many people bitten by dogs. One dog that entered our property often managed to bite 7 people in 10 days. I finally captured her and put her down as she seemed to like doing it and wasn't scared of humans. I don't care what the dog lovers say if a dog attacks me or my family or children I will spray it or kill it and not losea minute of sleep over it.

  2. I wonder if that illegal private house on the island opposite Koh Lipe's Mountain resort will be reclaimed.. let's see.

It is not a house it is a resort. That one is before the courts and may take years to finalize. The other encroachers and people who have built on Sor Kor 1 land on Lipe will come under this governments decision to clear them out. I expect that most of them will be knocked down soon.

  3. RIP to this young lady who died far too young. The article says the truck was stopped so that means the young lady hit the truck. Wonder if her cellphone was in her hand? Not the truck drivers fault. I was in Phuket a couple of days ago. I was looking for a parking spot down on the beach road and just as I found one and started to turn into it a young man came zipping up between me and the parked cars that I was pulling in between and he hit the side of my truck and knocked the young lady, that was riding on the back of his bike, off of the bike and dragged her down the road about 30 meters. All because he was too impatient to wait for me to pull into the parking spot. There are two lanes in the same direction at that point but instead of passing me on my right side where the extra lane is he tried to cut inside and as a result this young lady will still be hurting with all the scrapes and bruises she got. He left her there and took off from the scene. She was very lucky that she didn't do a header into one of the parked cars as neither were wearing helmets. Lack of knowledge of correct driving procedures, safety and lack of patience kills a lot of motorcyclists every year in Thailand.

  4. He is in Langkawi, Malaysia. It is very easy to get a boat to Langkawi. He left before the warrant was issued. He is also wanted for selling and leasing park land in Lipe. He is a real peice of s--t. This guy has been ripping people off for years. He tried it with me and I told him to F off. He tried to force people to sell their land to him for low prices and then he sold it at ridiculously high prices to people who wanted to open businesses on Lipe. He guaranteed that the land was legal but most of it was not. If you have been watching Thia PBS they have news about Lipe almost every day about all of the land encroachment on the park lands. He is the one who is at the root of it all. I hope they track him down in Malaysia and bring him back. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail for ripping off all of these people.

  5. Cheapest method is to just wear a pair of flip flops to prevent the power from going through the computer then you and then to good old mother earth. I have the same problem even with a properly grounded 3 pin system. So much humidity living on the ocean front that we all just use flip flops or put a mat under the our feet to prevent shock. But the correct solution is to earth all of your receptacles. Another alternative I have found here is to go to your local hardware store and pick up 2 prong plug that you can put a 3 prong plug into. It has an addittional connection that you can hook an earthed wire to.

  6. Many years ago I was on a visa run to Penang. I was seated beside one of the staff from the British Embassy. She told me then that the embassy assisted in returning the remains of an average of 6 Brits back to England every week. A lot of people do die while on holidays. Some die from natural causes, some from accidents and a few others from foul play. Just because someone dies on Koh Tao doesn't mean they were murdered. Wait for the evidence before you speculate.

  7. Coca Cola coiuld really help the environment by setting up more soft drink dispensing machines instead of selling their products in cans and bottles. It is much easier and cheaper to refill the tanks than it is to recycle cans and bottles. Remember Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Instead of going straight to Recycle we should be trying to reduce our garbage so that we don't have to recyle.

  8. Perhaps tourists are scared of the recent implementation of draconian laws and ever changing rules and regulations. Tourists from so called 'free' countries don't like being told when to be in bed (curfew), having to carry their passports with them at all times, report to immigration everytime they change accomodation and being subject to random piss testing be it walking down the street at night or laying on the beach during the day.

That is only a part, but worth of mouth go around that Thailand isn't as safe as before. the rip offs, the dirt everywhere.

Want to go diving? Marine life is in bad conditions. Want a taxi...get "no meter". Read "martial law".

Additionally Europe getting poor. Less families can just pay a 700-1000 Euro/person flight..... Before the flight was the same but at least you knew that Thailand was very cheap. Now it isn't cheap anymore.

    That all adds up.

Your comment doesn't really add up. France is the world's #1 tourist destination and it is not a cheap place to go to. Flights to Thailand have not changed dramatically in the 30 years that I have been travelling from Canada to South East Asia. Yes the cost of almost everything has gone up in Thailand but it is far cheaper to holiday here than in North America, Australia and Europe. The numbers will go back up this next season as more people realize that this military takeover is just what Thailand needs to restore order, stability and an even playing field for businesses to prosper, rather than just a few mafia type groups.

  9. It isn't all bad news in Thailand. In Tarutao Marine National Park a couple of Swiss men have started a voluntary Cleanup the Beach program on the islands of Lipe, Adang, Rawi and Dong. Usually around 30-50 tourists and locals join in the cleanup each Monday and so far this season they have cleaned up 10 tonnes of garbage. So far it has been mostly foreigners that do the cleaning but a few locals have gotten into the act and many local businesses have been donating boats, garbage bags, food and a beer at the end of the day to the volunteers. Check them out at www.fb.com/trashherokohadang and at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hblyZu4hBEc .

We are challenging the rest of Thailand to start their own Trash Hero chapter in their area. Also another good idea is to join the Adopt a Highway program. In this program groups of people adopt a section of a highway and they are responsible for taking care of that stretch of highway. You make a big day out of it by having a picnic while doing the cleanup and by making new friends who come out to help. Groups such as the Lions Club, Kinsmen Club, Hash House Harriers, Girl guides, Boy Scouts and schools can all make a great day outing and do something to help Thailand look better. No more complaining. Get off your butts and make a difference. A little less talk and a lot more action please.

  10. this is not thai people.

    why we care?

can stay in myanmar or cambodia if dont like!!

we dont ask you to come here.

    this is THAI land.

Without foreign workers and foreign investment in Thailand you Thai people would be poor and impoverished like the Myanmar people have been for decades. Open your eyes and your heart to others who are less fortunate. They come here to work and get money for their families and you don't care if they are turned into slaves. Shame on you.If all of us foreigner left Thailand tomorrow you would be eating dirt in one year.

  11. Good on Thailand. I am a Canadian citizen living in Thailand. Tomorrow my Thai wife and son are going to Canada for a two week visit with my family. I have gone through hell getting a visa for them this time. It was very easy the last two times but now the rules have changed. Instead of the cost of $75 per visa it has cost me almost $1000 Canadian to get their visas this time. It took me away from work for 7 days to get their visas. I had to travel from the south of Thailand to Bangkok just to put in the application. It used to take 1 day to get a visa but now it takes 12 days. I used to bitch about getting my Non-B every year but it is easy compared with the bullshit that I went through with the Canadian embassy this time. On my return to Canada I will be talking with my Member of the Legislature for my home province and I will be sending a letter to my Member of Parliament as well. Also copies to Canada Immigration and Citizenship and copies to the Embassy of Canada here in Bangkok. I am not impressed with their system anymore and I don't blame the Thais for want tit for tat.

  12. Why don't they have a yearly safety inspection on any vehicle over 5 years old and make a reasonable decision if the vehicle is safe for the road or not. Oh wait this is Thailand and this is too simple of a solution

I have an older truck that is in good condition mechanically and it is still inspected every year by the transport department before I can get my sticker on it. I agree with vehicle inspections and that any vehicles older than 5 years should have to get an inspection every year. That should include motorbikes, cars, trucks, buses and larger trucks on the road. I have seen a vast improvement in the south of Thailand since coming here 15 years ago but there are still many vehicles that don't have brakes or working light son them. They should be removed until repaired and made road worthy. I don't think that they should be banned just because of their age.

  13. A limited Thai company. You will need 3 shareholders. You can own 49%, your son can own 49% or 50% and a good Thai friend can own 1%, which may not be more than your friend can prove to be able to buy/invest, fx, 1% of 2 mio. eq. 20k.

Your son's shares will be administrated by his guardian until 20 years of age. If you is the guardian, then you. You can include preferred shares in the company, fx. 10 votes on preferred shares and one vote only on normal shares, and you can own the preferred shares.

A Thai individual can run a personal business, but I have never been into that, so cannot help. There is also somtehing called a “limited partnership”, which is not a limited company, but rather two individual people running a business. Unfortunately I have no experience in that either. You may need to talk to an accountant or a lawyer.

Your son can own the majority of Thai shares BUT only once he reaches the age of 12. I just did this a few months ago with my son. I own 49%, my wife owns 25% and my son owns 26%. You could adjust the number of shares as you wish but for myself it made no difference as I have loaned my own money to the company to get it up and running. The loan is a demand loan with a fixed interest rate of 2% per year. If I have problems with my wife, my son and I have control of the company and if I have problems with my wife and son then I can demand my money back from company and this would effectively bankrupt it. The head of the DBD here told my son can own the shares but he could not be a director until he was 18 years old so he cannot control any of the company business but he can vote at our meetings.

The first thing I was told by a Thai when I came here 15 years ago was "Don't ever, ever trust a Thai!" So far that has been the best advice I have received since I came here.
