Normally, when a currency rises significantly, imports flood in and the current account surplus shrinks. This reduces the attractivity of the currency and the exchange rate falls. Industrial and agricultural exports become more competitive and tourist numbers and spend per head (in Baht) would increase.
It would be simple to slash import duties to achieve this.
Unfortunately in LOS the importers, wholesalers and retailers earn mind blowing profits at the current level of the Baht AND belong to the 260 Families who control this country.....so it's not going to happen

I am on a non B visa as I work for a large, foreign owned corporation here in Thailand. We employ several hundred Thais and have between 2 and 4 expats here at any one time in senior management. This year's work permit extensions went through easily. 2 years for each of us. But the visa extensions went on for 12 weeks, although all paperwork was correct and accepted at first submission. No reason for the delay was given, apart from "we have not heard back from Bangkok". This resulted in 3 temporary extensions which used up a complete page of my passport for each one. On returning from my last business trip during these mini extensions (the last extension was for 6 days!) I was given a hard time at BKK immigration and had to answer a lot of questions about what I was doing in Thailand. I have managed various industrial companies in SEA and have always been treated very well, as in other countries companys who bring inward investment are highly prized. The treatment this year of myself and my colleagues has caused the owners of the company to draw up contingency plans to move the operation to another country in the region.

I am in the same position as you. Have a wp valid for another two years but when I went to immigration to extend my visa for another year got a stamp "Under consideration, return to immigration on August 6th. They also stamped and extension until August 6th, ie. 1 month. I am travelling on business until August 4th so have to hope my 1 year extension will be granted on the 6th or I will have to depart the Kingdom 2 days after landing!
In your position I would return to Immigration and ask for a 1 month extension due to business travel........it should be possible, but who knows nowadays!

Dear All,
Many thanks for all your suggestions. I see from ubonjoe's link that the British Embassy offers the Standard Letter at reception for collection. I will get someone to pick up a copy on Friday and will try to get Immigration to transfer the stamp without the first passport being cancelled.
Otherwise as lopburi3 suggests, I will have to transfer the stamp to the second passport and cancel then first passport and order another new passport..........expensive and a pain but pretty certainly possible.
I will keep you informed............

Hi there,
I have 2 British passports as I travel a lot on business. My Thai work visa is in my first passport which is now full. I want to transfer my Thai work visa to my other passport. At Immigration they have told me I need a letter from the British Embassy in Bangkok to "validate" the second passport. On the British Embassy website I can't find an option to do this. Can anyone tell me where and how I can get this letter?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
What documents are needed to leave BKK by air?

I have to urgently return to Europe and managed to purchase a one way ticket to Frankfurt from BKK on Monday. Does anyone know if I need any documents other than my air ticket, TM 6 and passport ? Thanks in advance.
