And when you get to Thailand, you'll probably be attacked by packs of often aggressive stray dogs that seem to have invaded most cities and towns now that Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns have closed businesses and emptied streets of people.

ill have my 7 11 cheese toasties at the ready bro

You can enter as a tourist (or visa exempt depending on your nationality).

You will also need to Apply for Certificate of Entry (lots of requirements / Plenty of info on other threads)

You will need to quarantine for 15 nights (lots of info on ASQ in other threads)

The situation in Thailand is fluid at the moment. Due to a recent outbreak many provinces have been ‘locked down’ or rather travel between provinces is restricted to essential movement. What this means is you can travel, you may face road blocks etc and be asked why.

In most area’s bars are closed. Restaurants are open in some areas and this is changing week by week.

Up until mid-December with the exception of a ghostly quietness in many areas otherwise congested with tourists it was life as normal, bars etc very quiet. Areas popular with Thai’s were quite normal.

Mask wearing in malls, 7-11 and most places etc is the norm, temp checks on entry...

Without another outbreak I suspect life will be back to normal ‘within’ Thailand in a few weeks - but travel into Thailand will still be restricted (CoE required) until the Emergency Decree is lifted and there are quarantine requirements (i.e. when the vaccination program has vaccinated those above 60 and those in high risk groups ) - but that remains to be seen or even discussed at this stage.

thanks for your response that makes sense, im not looking to come straight away maybe in a month or two and i know how much they like to change the goal posts. Is it still 90 days VOA for uk citizens? a thai friend told me they were looking to up it to 9 months at some point is that the case?

  3. Hey guys! i need your help here. Out of curiosity i was on the thai immigration website looking at the different visas and i can that they have changed the rules YET AGAIN!

    I HOLD A UK PASSPORT

Can someone confirm that i have read this correctly - Visa on Arrivals have to be applied for through the website and then the application brought to Suwanapoom Airport? And also i can see now that it is valid for only 15 days instead of 30?

Have accidentaly sniffed too much glue? or is that very much the case?  I arrive on October the 8th and will be there a week but i will be entering thailand again 3 weeks later for my flight back home (doing the rounds)

    Can someone advise.

    Thank you!

Thanks for sharing. As I said, I am looking at Vietnam, meaning that I am no expert, so thanks for your help.

So Vietnam could still be a good options for in-between stays for below 6 months of the year? As a tourist staying in hotels all that notification stuff would not apply. 2-3 months tourist stays sound about good.

Your link mentions an ex employee (working in Vietnam) who could not exit the country. We are talking about people who do not work - how can you know whether or not someone works for other countries from their room.

mate take your vietnam nonsense somewhere else. I cant say how many times iv said im not interested in vietnam.

Thank you all very much for your amazing responses and genuine knowledge its massively appreciated. How can i mark this thread as resolved?

I am around the same age as you and living here as a digital nomad but I would not recommend to relocate to Thailand especially with visa issues. Most likely you will also not be in much contact with Thais anyway and only get in touch with the farang community as they seem to be much more relaxed than these stiff Thais in most co-working spaces.

hi mate i have messaged you

Op, tell us about Spain. Must be great there. You must have some really great wine.

    And Mediterranean food and weather.

Are the streets clean? How is the driving, safe? Clean air?

Spain is brilliant. Has it's ups and downs. Weather and food and people are all amazing hot and dry summers (down south) and mild winters. Driving can be a bit mad at times, although not nearly as chaotic as thailand having said that i have had 0 close calls in thailand on motorbike and i lost count how many times i have almost been killed on my bike in Spain haha. Air quality is brilliant my only gripe in spain is getting stuff done..the red tape and bureaucracy here are still in the dark ages. You need a 1000 copies of everything they all need to be folded and certain way and stapled ahahah and dont expect to get things done on times, very relaxed here everything is always manana manana (tomorrow tomorrow) kind of similar to thai in a way but each country has its perks and the females....words cant describe

Think your op was misleading. "Thinking about moving here" or something similar. Then shifted to year or 18 month etc. Already mentioned by posters your various options. METV to mention one then followed up with this or that. Sooo so many threads on this. Then some later post from you that you have been to los many times over couplebof years. If you had half a clue you would be aware of all options. Just to humor you.... I would personally enter on setv as METV needs return to home country. Extend setv. Repeat. Do border visa exempt after that and extend.... Can go on but its boring. Take nice size break after that cycle in say Vietnam. Then repeat.

    Geezus

so can i get SETV from neighbouring countries?

yeah they want 30% if your salary for that just for you to stay in thailand, like <deleted>?. Why are you leading this kid on...He's not up to 50, another entry on a tourist visa is not even guaranteed given his history. I bet you'd still be the one to asslixk the thai I/Os if they detain him on his next entry. Why not just say what the reality is rather than play the wizard of oz! what do you stand to lose?

yeah there is no way in hell i would be doing that. i keep myself to myself, i work in my house and enjoy outside of work hours. no workspaces or companies like that.

  9. im struggling to get a consensus here. i appreciate everyones input and advice! i think the best option would be metv and spend a month away then come back? how would the logistics of this work? I mean i am not planning on deep setting roots in thai in principal (dont wana buy a house or car or that) and ofcourse i would be expected to go back to uk to visit family and friends etc

It's actually those pensioneers that had the patience to provide you with all the advice, that you are now insulting.

I'm 37 and cannot care less about what you do and where you go.

its directed at you! go on tell us the word.... if you want to throw insults and presumptions around a forum at least be man enough to see it through instead of leaving cryptic clues.. like i care what you think. You don't know me if you cant be nice or civil then don't comment its a simple as. And to everyone thats gave stellar advice i thank them

I have old air-con at my house (7 years old), electric bill is 1,500bht for the month.

Acclimatise, and just use it afternoons and when you go to bed is the answer.

I rarely use AC here in spain, some days it can get to over 40 degrees. I just use the fan and sweat a little but at bed time i do have the ac on for 30 mins or so

I have been in Thailand a few years now, and I am going back to Spain.

I am older than you though.

Novelty well and truly worn off now.

Best thing for you is to split your time between Thailand and Spain.

Fly with Norwegian, good deal, and Premium Economy allows you to bring 40kg.

The only way you can get a 90 day tourist Visa is to go to Madrid or London.

My advice would be to nip over to London, get your 90 day Visa there on your way out here.

Then fly with Norwegian to Bkk via Olso or Copenhagen.

I am staying in Hua Hin.

You have everything you need here, for a bloke of your age.

Its a nice town, but has all the extra attractions you need.

If you stay where I stay for 3 months or more, can pay only 4,500 baht a month including 200Mbps fiber optic internet.

If you need any advice or pointers, send me a message on here.

My home is in Miraflores, Mijas Costa.

Good luck with it, you will have fun, but dont live here, it will spoil the fun.

Enjoy for a few months at a time, then you will enjoy.

Hey buddy! yeah i live just up the road in Alhaurin El Grande. And i ususally fly with norwegian from AGP to Either Stockholm, Oslo or Copenhagen out to BKK on their 787 dreamliner. I think realistically i would probably want to base myself in S.E asia  and return to the uk to see family and friends and just leave Spain alone for a while. So maybe doing 6mths of the year in Thai and then the rest of the year in other places, might make sense.

    Well, that sounds different.

If you want to stay for a year an METV Visa  gives you 9 months, ED Visa can give you a year or so...

thats what i am thinking...the METV visa seems like the viable option. If once the METV expires and i wish to remain would i have to fly back to the UK and organise another visa? i just see it as being a bit suspect have multiple visas more or less sequential to each other in ones passport...

  14. Well thats the plan really i dont have intentions of telling people i work i just want to come here as a "permanent tourist" i dont care what loopholes i need to jump through to do it...aslong as i dont get busted... managed 5 years in spain under the radar but i need to know the ins and outs.... (i am genuinely an upstanding member of society) hahaha and  i know the risks of thai roads iv almost been knocked down about 20 times in my last 10 visits...but my Hilux avoidance ninja EXP has gone up exponentially
