  1. Don't know about that, not many softwoods are any good against bugs, particulalry the lovely termite.

We have a tree in Oz which is so god dam_n hard, teak is supposedly one of the hardest, but this tree I remember cutting one down one day, using them for fence posts and yard railings. A chainsaw becomes blunt quickly on this tree and I went to put the axe back into the stump, a common place to leave an axe around a work site so as not to lose it or damage it on stones etc.

The axe bounced of the stump so quick it nearly cam right back into my head.

We also put this tree as posts directly into the ground, no tar, creosate or any protection whatsoever against termites and this was in termite country, mounds all around the posts basically.

I am stumped for the name, but 'gidgee' rings a bell.

sounds a lot like iron bark Mr Squigle

  2. l am about 100 k's from Udon Thanni ,,, l take my german shepherd to a vet there , they are always concerned but not that helpful ,, a bit like Thai doctors in the country ,, like to give a lot of pills and take blood samples for worms ,,,,the problem l have now is he (the dog) has a has some sort of infection in his foot ,, namely in the toe nail which is causing the lower leg and foot to swell ,, the vet looked at it but did not inspect it ,, took the usual blood samples and said a worm could cause it ( rubbish ) ,, l would like to know if someone in the Udon area can recommend a good vet ,, as many of you will understand ,, he (the dog again ) is much much more than just a dog and l want the best for him ,,,,,

    thanks and cheers

  3. gentlemen ,,,thank you for your time and knowledge ,,, l will be off to immigration on Friday ,,, l think l have all bases covered ,,, (but one never knows ),,

    once again thanks ,,,, cheers

Dont know your exact location but you will find that Korat Immigration is a bit more user friendly than Nongkai.

halfway between Udon Thanni and Sakhon Nakon ,,,to the north of them ,, about 50 K from Wanon Niwat

  4. Hi,

Soon gonna lay some turf with BiL helping, as I did it only once before (long time ago) I would appreciate some advice

    thanks

    Totster :D

l laid some about 5 months ago ,,, l used a mixture of burnt husks and sand (about 50/50) also a LITTLE nitrogen to promote leaf growth ,,,, the husk sand mixture was spread about an inch thick(maybe more ) over the red clay/buckshot stuff they have here ,,,,l kept the water up to it ,,,,, now l walk around with a bloody lawn mower attached to my arms all the time ,,,,

    good luck andhave fun

    cheers :o

  5. No need to leave. And if you ever want to leave you need to buy a re-entry permit first to keep your extension alive.

sorry lopburi3 ,, l missed your first thread ,,, l will get the hang of this one day ,,,, just to make things a bit clearer ,,,, last year l got a non-imm-o visa ,,, with that and all the paper work (and my wife ) l proceeded to Nong Khai immigration and was granted a 12 month stay ,, reporting every 3 months ,, this expires on the 17/11/2007 ,,,,,,,, l think l have it right that all l do now is front up to immigration with the same paper work and go through the application process again ,, with no need to leave LOS ,,,,

thanks very much for your replies ,,,, cheers

just a quickie ,,, last year they wanted to see a bank statement and a passbook showing 400,000 baht in the bank for 3 months plus the income statement of 40,000 Pm ,,,, maybe just them being different ,,,,,,,,,,

    Cheers and thanks

  6. Hi ,, can l ask a question along a similar line ,,, l am coming up for my first renewal of a 12 month visa (married to a Thai wife )income of 40,000PM is Ok as is 400,000 in the bank ,,, what l want to know is do l have to go to Vienteine to get another non-imm o visa or do l just report to Nong Khai immigration on or before expiry date ?? ,,, sorry if it is a dumb question ,, but hey ,,,l am not known for my brains nor my beauty ,,, thanks for any help

As a fist time extension applicant you have to show 40K income (for you 400K in the bank does not count) by you and your wife in form of tax papers or in form of an Embassy Income Letter. Besides that you have to show your wife, her ID card, her home register, your passport, your arrival card, the marriage certificate and copies of all. Plus photos at home showing you are living together and house number and they also like to see a Thai account passbook and copies along with a bank letter matching of current account. With all that you go to Nong Khai Immigration.

thanks for that gzu88bv,,,all the paper work is in order ( the same as when l first applied ) except for the photo's but l'm working on that now ,,, this is my second extension, so no need to leave LOS ??

  8. I was under the impression that you must exit/re-enter the kingdom every 90 days. Someone has told me otherwise, each 90 days you can extend at an immigration office? Is this true?

    Thanks.

l have a 12 month visa ,, single re -entry ,,,it expires on the 27/11/2007,,, every 90 days l must report to Nong Khai Immigration ( or 7 days either way),,,, for me ,, exit was not a must ,,, it was my choice to return to Oz ,, and l will do again in 2 months,, each time,, l must fill out a re-entry form or my 12 month visa will become invalid ,,,,,

l hope this is of some help ,,,,,cheers

  9. Work permit would not be required if (the foreigner) is not working in Thailand.

l think you are right ,,,, l was quoting from a print out they gave me of there requirements ,,,, they accepted my application and l do not have a work permit ,,,,,,, we have tried 3 times and every time they ask for something different ,,, it has been a pain in the butt

  10. Hi all,

When I move to Thailand in 2 or 3 years I will rent a restaurant for my Thai wife to run, in fact I will rent it a year before I go if this restaurant or any other business she runs makes 40,000 a month will this act as a joint income in other words would this satisfy my married visa requirements. I will have some money in a Thai bank account but most of my money will be tied up, it seems a simple way to get round the requirements.

    Thanks Dave

This is what l got from Nong Khai immigration on the 16/2/2007 ,,,,,

foreign husband stay with Thai nationalty wife

1 having an income not less than 40,000 baht a month

2 having a income together not less than 40,000 baht a month

3 having a tax for the following of the previous year of the alien or the wife

    4 work permit

    5 the wifes identity card

    6 the wifes house registration

    7 marriage certificate

    8 2 photo

9 Fee 1,900 baht l hope this helps
