There is still time to lockdown now for 4 weeks or so to contain this, it will be much cheaper then locking down for months later and so better for all Thai people and us.
Yes the vaccines is the other issue, the government didn't order enough! There's no shortage of takers, thousands in Phuket and elsewhere grabbing at them when they are there.
Its far more sinister than not ordering enough. CP (one of the biggest companies in the world) own a huge share in the Chinese company that makes the Chinese vaccine. Hospitals (private or public) were banned from importing any other vaccine. Why? Pressure perhaps from CP who are after a profit? When negotiating with Pfeizer, the Thai govt wanted to bring the price down so much that it was unsustainable for them to make a deal (a friend of mine is on the Thai Pfeizer negotiating team). This was another example of a goverment who do not really rule except in areas where the large families have little interest.

Let’s face it, if CP owned the craft beer companies you’d be able to buy beer everywhere right now and online sales would be legal.
Yeah. Dont hear the big beer families complaining as they watch 7/11 sell their beers and their competitors flounder and possibly go bankrupt.

Restricting the entire Bkk metropolis causing huge economic hardship seems disproportionate. Surely better to focus on the areas of the city near Samut Sakhon or where there are outbreaks.
Nighttime economy which employs a huge number of people is on the floor
All the markets in Don Muang/Laksi area are open at night so perhaps its the centre of the city which is more of a lockdown. Apart from schools being shut life is pretty much the same where I am.

This seems to be the opposite of what Dr Taweesilp of the CCSA was saying today. He said that he's very worried by the situation in both Samut Sakhon and Bangkok West. Is Mr P even talking to his expert advisors, let alone listening to them?
So they would keep those areas closed down more and open up areas where there is less infection rate.

I thought the Thais had already deported him for lying?
Nothing worse than a foreigner showing up in country and complaining about everything and exaggerating to make money for his blog.
He acts as if he is helping expats, but the opposite is true spreading misinformation and causing old naive blokes to panic.
Nothing worse than a foreigner showing up in country and complaining about everything and exaggerating to make money for his blog? You mean like every other post on here? 555 Barrow doesnt complain all that often and doesnt spread lies. He usually just diseminates info from other official sources and rarely has an negative opinion...unlike on here it seems

He is a guy on Twitter who relays info about what is happening in Thailand. Most of the time he is right and soemtimes he isnt. As usual on here, the miseries who tear everything down have nothing positive to say so will lay into him. Go on Twitter and look him up.

I’m sure there are a handful who are capable. However, it takes more than a handful of a scientists to make this happen. This is a larger operation than Thailand will ever be able to successfully manage.
perhaps. But I did not like the tone from the previous person who scoffed and sneered at the possibility of a Thai scientist being involved. I would argue with the amount of int students who have gone and returned from international unis over the past 20 to 30 years that the talent is there....but the financial backing is not

Nope. Absoutely true. Was at a lecture he gave in BKK a few years ago. Are you suggesting that Thai scientists are not smart enough for this?

My local Makro doesn't sell alcohol at all, as it's about 250 metres from a university. The 7-11 directly opposite the university sells, though ????
It will depend if the uni was there first or the 7/11...in a bar opposite a school near me they are allowed to serve beer as the school opened after the bar was established.

Another cause that is used to attack drinkers. The drink driving lobby . They introduced the drink drive laws in the UK years ago. It has been a disaster.

Yes, because everyone knows having a couple of beers spreads the virus like wild fire. Do these 'officials' realise how stupid they sound ?
No but if you have lots of drunk young men over New Year they might not stay where they should - just look at what is happening in the UK.

Intrestingly, it was a Thai scientist who saved the first moon landing. He sorted out the landing problem that NASA had. There landing approach kept crashing. It was a Thai scientist that they flew over who was able to solve the problem.

Thai’s are not this stupid. One has to wonder how ‘loaded’ the questions in the poll were...
i.e. Should we allow foreigners in from countries with high covid numbers?
or should we allow the risk of foreigners bring in covid? etc
exactly. Framing of the question is always the most relevant part of a poll and the questions are raarely reported on or even published in articles such as these. If there is a risk of a second wave of Covid 19 being brought in by foreigners, should we allow foreigners to enter? Yes/no/don't know.

That "travel bubble" idea was never feasible to begin with. Even if it had panned out, it never would've attracted the foreign tourist numbers those dreamers at TAT and assorted ministries hoped for. Just because Thailand opens up "travel bubbles" for a few nations doesn't mean that everybody is immediately going to hop on a plane. People have different priorities right now than spending tight money on an overseas vacation. And especially not a vacation that basically would restrict them to a clearly defined, restricted area with no freedom of movement outside that "bubble". That's my opinion anyway.
Thai friends of mine who own hotels in Thailand have got almost full weeks from August from Chinese tourists. They are gagging to travel again.

Who will gain? The big brewers, whose profits won't be up to the usual obscene amounts due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
This is yet another example of the Government finding an excuse to help the elite families of Thailand.
You are spot on here. A Thai friend of mine is in the wine import trade and says that the reason we hav such high tax on wine is that the big beer families (who do see whiskey but not wine except Thai made) have pressured the govt into putting t he taxes high in order to stop Thais moving away from their products. Absolute disgrace.

Rather than hospitals, doctors etc labeling everything/anything covid related, I think they might go the other direction (which they might be doing now). Nothing would be considered virus caused. Lots die from pneumonia, but not covid. If you caved in to buying the virus insurance, and covered nothing else, you're screwed if doc goes along with powers that be story "there are no cases". All those premiums for nothing...
I suppose I could move to Vietnam or other nearby country. Pay for airfare for visits from my Thai wife from time to time.
BUt they didnt label everything/anything Covid. That was one of the criticisms here and arguements against the low figures they gave out. Lots 'don't die' from COVID but there is more and more evidence that thse who had it and were hospitalised wil suffer long term effects far worse than having pneumonia including severe lung damage and damage to the brain as well.

yaaaawn. Nothing is "swept under the carpet. " Its all in the open, and working girls hardly try to keep their profesion a secret from family and friends. Because, Thailand is a great and non judgemental country, you can be yourself, wether lady boy, gay, bar girl, people will not judge you. What a great lesson wr can learn from that.
Western countries and Muslim countries on the other hand, do sweep EVERYTHING under the carpet though what doesnt fit them and their narrowmindedbelieves. Repressive controlling systems.
Lucky to live in Thailand. Great country, great civilization.
I think you have really missed the subtelty of Thai society. The groups you list are tolerated not accepted. If they were accepted then katoeys would be able to change their gender status on their cards and not be constantly used a comic clowns on TV. They would be in more jobs than in teh service industries and they would be in higher positions. Bar girls constantly hide what they do from their families and many see bar work as a cathariticp punishment for perceived misdemeanours either from their present or past lives; terms used to desrcribe them is 'sia khon' (polluted person); tom boys are tolerated by parents as they are a safe way for their daughters to learn the conventions of relationships.
We are lucky to live here but look deeper at the depth of this society tha you do at present. Many, many layers to it.

Don't believe all you read from Reuters!
Go-go bars haven't all gone, yet, and Covid-19 has not "hit" Patpong, or the other two places, any harder than many other businesses that also received temporary closure notices.
No why should I believe Reuters, a well known international news agency with an excellent reputation for fair reporting, when I can believe Bob A Kneale, who writes on a thread for Thaivisa.com 555 hilarious!
