  1. I had a bit of a worrying surprise yesterday. Some background info:

My current "retirement visa" expires in mid-November, and the BOI representative I spoke with by phone in September assured me there was plenty of time for me to apply for the "wealthy pensioner" LTR as it would take 20 working days.

I submitted my application on Sept 14 and assumed all was in order with the documents since I heard nothing further from BOI. On Oct 12, the 20th working day after my initial application, I received a request for another insurance document. (I assume the problem was that the one I'd submitted didn't have an expiration date but stated the policy was automatically renewed every April.) I phoned the insurance rep and he promptly issued a document saying my policy was good till April 2024, and I immediately uploaded it to my online LTR application.

Yesterday I phoned BOI to see how long it would be before I would be notified whether or not my application was accepted. The representative said "20 working days" and that the clock started ticking when the updated document was received (Oct 12). She was very sympathetic when I described my concerns over my soon-to-expire retirement extension (another 20 working days would really push things to the limit), and she said she'd talk with the officer in charge of my application.

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar situation. Is there a chance the other docs originally submitted have already been vetted and that approval of the LTR visa is a real possibility and/or they'll get back to me in less than 20 working days?

    Thanks.

  2. Thanks (as always). The problem is that when I attached those documents on the online reporting site, despite being accepted, my subsequent attempt to file a 90-Day Report online was rejected for the reason of no TM30.

That's why I'm trying to register the TM30 with the Section38 app, but have (so far) found it impossible to attach the necessary documents as Mutt Daeng was able to do in the reply above.

A trip to CW is extremely inconvenient, so the app is seemingly the way to go. Perhaps submitting it by registered mail is a viable option, but I'm afraid of being left in limbo not knowing whether or not it was accepted till the next online 90-Day Report was rejected, thus necessitating at trip to CW.

  3. I was able to fill in all the blanks, but couldn't find any specification as to which files to attach in the "select file" section. The message that popped up was "File at least 1 file" -- but no mention of which file(s) and no way to even randomly try to attach possibilities such as Passport or Yellow Tabien Baan.

Anyone else have this problem or, better yet, find a solution? Thanks!

  4. I've followed the valuable advice on TM30 in past forums, but still have questions.

    Here's my specific situation:
I live in Bangkok in a condominium I own and have a Yellow Tabien Baan (and Pink ID Card).
However, I am registered with Immigration in another province since I used a visa agent for my 12-month retirement extension and subsequent 90-day reports.
Since my financials are in order (balance of 800,000 baht in a local bank for over 12 months), I'd like to do the next extension by myself and without an agent.

If I'm not mistaken, I first need a TM30 using my condo's address.
I tried registering online (including uploading the necessary documents) but with no success (perhaps due to the agent having registered me in another province).
I'm considering doing it by post, since going to CW is not so convenient.
Your advice/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

  5. Thanks for the link, which is quite helpful.
My main reason isn't so much for social security payments (mine are quite low) but in case we lived in the States, wanted the spouse to be able to share my Medicare coverage. Not sure if being legally married (having a US marriage certificate) is enough or if a green card is also necessary.

  6. I'm an American citizen living in Thailand. My Thai partner and I got married  during a trip to the US ten years ago. I'm already retired and my spouse plans to retire in 3 years, and we've begun thinking about applying for a green card in case we ever move to the States. I tried to research the topic on the internet but, despite an overload of information, am still not sure about whether or not it's possible to apply for and be issued the green card while residing in Thailand or if it's necessary to reside in the States first, and whether or not there's a US residency requirement to retain the green card's validity and eventually getting citizenship.

    Thanks for your advice!

  7. Despite Bangkok's COVID-related construction ban, the Dusit Central Park construction site (across from Lumpini Park) is currently a beehive of activity with some 30-50 workers operating cranes and other heavy machinery. Any recommendations on how to report this to the relevant authorities (or who the relevant authorities actually are)? Hopefully it's not just another case of a powerful company getting away with flouting the law.

It will cover medical care if you develop severe complications e.g. are on a vent. Whether you die or not. You would not be likley to run up a bill that high otherwise anyhow.

But you could run up more than that in a worse case scenario.

    Thanks for the information, Sheryl.
One more question: April International Insurance recently sent out emails saying it covers Covid. If so, why the need for a policy with Roojai?

The perceived wisdom on here is that it is always best to submit the initial 90-day report in person.  The snail mail option might - or, there again, might not - prove OK in your case, but why take the risk?

Incidentally, I'm surprised that you managed to get past the first page on the online system without being stopped in your tracks by the "Go to your immigration office" message, which seems to act as a stumbling block for quite a few on here.

I was surprised as well......but the report still ended up rejected!
