I had pretty much written Thailand off as a travel destination for the foreseeable future. But with the sandbox regulations slackening with regards to non jabbed foreigners like myself, and my planned semi retirement date looming, I have found myself mulling over being able to pull another trip out of the bag.
Obviously I wouldn't book anything untill the bars and entertainment are reopened, but it's certainly looking better.
In my personal opinion Thailand shot itself in the foot a bit by closing its borders for so long. Or rather in waiting so long to get its at risk people jabbed. Covid is going to work its way through a population whatever you do. But it's that spread that leads to immunity. I see the jabs as being useful only for personal protection.
On another note I have to agree with some of the above comments about people finding new pastures to graze. Thailand was the goto destination for young people heading off to travel. Now I'm seeing mates who's kids are starting to get their first backpack, and in my town at least they all seem to be heading for Mexico.
Thailand really needs to get its act together because this generation of backpackers are the tourists of the future. If they don't come in their youth and build great memories they are less likely to come in later years as returning more affluent tourists.
