  1. After a bit of time out of the city its really become apparant just how messed up the people are in Bangkok who drive that way. Outside its a bit more relaxed and people are a bit more considerate. In BKK its really out of control. Without any policing other than the comedy checkpoint for tea money outside the police station for an hour a day, what do you expect.

Dont expect it to get better anytime soon!

You can - as a parent - get a 60 day extension of any 90 days stay. It costs 1,900 baht from your local immigration office.

    Great info, thanks!

Is that 60 day extension the same sort of process as extending a tourist visa or is it more complex, cant seem to find too much info about this.

Though I do have to leave the country this time near to the end of my current visa, this could be an option next time while I work out the 1 year situation!

  3. I have an O visa of 90 days (single entry) to spend time with my son in Thailand.

When it expires is it possible to apply for a second single entry o from outside Thailand as I soon have to visit Vietnam and China.

Do immigration have any issues with me spending 90 days here with my boy and then doing the same again for another 90 days?

Ive proof of a decent income, proof of job in UK and a condo in BKK.

    Thanks!

Most likely because he obtained one previously along with couple of setv + extensions.

Re Your previous post. There is a limit on visa exempt entries at border to 2 per calendar yr. There is no limit on visa exempt (30 days, they are not visas) at airports.....however eventually will be denied entry. As for setv ....by applying at various consulates you could possibly obtain quite a few however entry via air would eventually result in being denied. That becomes very messy.

this was my first ED visa application, from a private language school in Bangkok. a lot of their students have had their visas voided recently in ho chi minh and a few other countries. they seem to want you to use their agent who for an extra fee will be able to sort it out.

and yes I just had 2 setv + extensions this year.

You might obtain a setv but problem may be returning to bkk via air. Border crossing from Saigon to los not fun. Entry via airport problematic. Think you mentioned ed visa along with couple extended tourist visas. Would make for nervous flight.

As mentioned above....why not a non o based on parent of Thai child?

thanks for all the help. I'll be going for the non O parent visa in HCMC. Ill let you all know how it goes in a few days.

    again thanks for the help!

  6. ive recently been rejected for my ED visa, and pretty much given up on that route.

Is there a maximum amount of single entry tourist visas you can get in one year? ive already had 2 x 60 day visas. One from home in UK, then one from Kuala Lumpur, both were extended for 1900 baht at chaeng wattana in bangkok.

If the visa was granted is there still a chance that the I.O would reject me at the airport, given that there is an ED visa in my passport with a VOID stamp on it.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

I too had a void stamp at HCMC. There were two other people picking their Ed-visa up, and we all had to wait despite being in front of the line. I'm not sure if theirs were voided as well, but I'd be willing to bet it was.

Apparently, the embassies are changing the requirements, my school initially said to go to HCMC, but then sent me an telling me not to go there after I had already submitted my documents

after that was it possible to get a tourist visa? (baring in mind i have had 2 + extensions this year). thanks in advance

I couldn't find any official source, you should maybe contact the ministry of education what their official rules say, to know if you are ok or not.

In some older posts i found people (including Ubonjoe) saying 8 hours per week or 400 per year, but i don't know for sure if this is still the current requirement.

thanks so much for your help. Ill get someone inside thailand to call to the m.o.e and check it out.

I just checked their website, it says 180 hours over a year?

Afaik the official minimum requirement for an Ed visa are 15 hours per week which would be about 800 per year (maybe minus holidays).

So it could be that they don't issue you the visa because you are not going to study enough hours to qualify for one.

Which embassy / consulate did the school recommend to get the visa?

when i reported to them today that I got the void. They recommended that one of their students has just been accepted via the embassy in Penang. I dont want to go to any school that is "dodgy" or cheating. Do you think it would be better for me to start again with a school that is owned by a university or similar?

  10. Hi All,

been reading the forum for years but never needed to post.

So I had all the correct paperwork from TEWI school in Bangkok to get my ED visa and start language school. I made sure to check it all and the school did the same.

Then after submission I got my visa back with a fresh ED sticker in the passport with the stamp VOID accross it.

This same situation occured to another student from the same school within a few days of each other both at Ho Chi Minh

Ive recently been in thailand for 6 months .... 2 x Tourist visas with 30 day extensions from Chaeng Wattana. I decided I want to learn the language and stay for longer. With this in mind I dont think I would be accepted at the airport with a 30 day exemption

Ho chi minh refused to give ANY reason what so ever regarding the reason for VOID stamp.

Can anyone recommend what I should do next? Should I get a new passport? Should I go to another country and try again? Does this VOID stamp mean that I have a bad mark against my name? Ive a clean immigration record, have never over stayed, had any troubles or immigration issues in the past.

Some reasurance from some of you experts would be great at the moment.

    Thanks in advance
