  1. I'm looking for all information, even outside of the scope of my questions.

I am going to visit Cambodia several times with the idea of moving there eventually

I am retired here in Thailand for four years now on a type O-A visa my GF is Cambodian on a type L-A visa

our baby is less than two years old. I have American naturalization and an American Passport for her.

I can get a Cambodian passport I think as well for her but have not done that.

on my first trip I want to drive my car across the border. we want to cross in Trat Provence border crossing.

my questions are to do with driving with my Thai drivers license and taking my car across the border and back

    what issues I might encounter?

I plan to wait until Thailand eases more restrictions for re-entry so maybe July?

are there vaccinations we should get?

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

  2. hello

I contacted LMG for insurance.  I am a 66 year old American

they offered me a policy that seems bigger than necessary

The highlights of Health Long Stay VISA O-A is as follow:

    • The health insurance policy provides coverage THB 3,500,000 (100,000 USD.)per policy per year for inpatient and THB 60,000 for Outpatient  per policy per year (2,000 THB per visit).
    • Deductible starts from 300,000 THB* for Both IPD and OPD"

any thoughts on this would be appreciated

    Hi Jim

Sorry I could not get back to you earlier I have been off the air.

I renewed the existing policy I had with LMG for a total sum of 440000 which also included cover for Covid-19 disease.

    The cost was 7700baht.

It was accepted by Nong Khai immigration with no questions asked so my O/A visa was granted a one year extension from 02/03/2022.

LMG did over coverage for 3million baht and advised me to check with my local immigration office on their requirement I took a punt on only 440000baht which was duly accepted by the immigration officer.

I have to get insurance and I was wondering if you could send me a link to LMG

I have to get a Type O-A visa extension in March for retirement at Jomtien Beach Immigration

I don't have a Thai bank card That I want to use/show money account

there is no place to enter my bank card info.  funny I pay for everything else at Bangkok Pattaya hospital with my American card

  5. I got on the Bangkok Pattaya hospital site this morning and I was able to order the vaccine up to the point where you pay for it.

I was hoping to be able to enter my card info (American Debit Card) but no such luck.

it offers a bank that I assume you have to have an account at and says you can use a card but I don't know how to do it.

it has a time frame of until this evening to pay

I've already set out in earlier posts what I would do to diagnose the issue based upon what our OP is reporting (tingles from earthed kit and an apparent 75V N-E).

If our OP wishes to randomly add bits to his installation without actually diagnosing the issue it's entirely up to him.

    Horses, water etc.

I still suspect a floating ground but ...

You are correct sir it was a floating ground. I went over to his house today and he hooked up a temporary ground. the voltages measured at nominal voltages and no more getting shocked of his Guitar. 50Hz hum on his amp is gone as well

I'd be tempted to pull those two whites from the ground bar and see if anything stops working (coz it's getting a return path via the ground).

In our old condo ALL the aircon was connected with the neutral feeds on the ground bar, supply was TN-S so it worked just fine until I wanted to install an RCBO.

another thing I did was measure between E and N then turn the individual breakers off one at a time.  generally had around 75 VAC but on one of the breakers that voltage dropped to around 50 VAC

I did notice two white wires on the ground bus.

I am not an Electrician but a Electo-mechanical repairman. So in 42 years of work when I measured incoming power to my machines if ir wasn't right I had the customer get their electrician to rectify the problem.  So my experience is not as an Electrician. different skill set

I agree with you must know reference

You absolutely need a KNOWN reference, you cannot rely on ANYTHING in the box for now. Bang that big driver into the lawn and water it if it's a bit dry.

The voltage between N and E is a concern but you are not likely getting a shock from the neutral.

What is the voltage between L and E?

Is your guitar/amp connected to ground?  (3-pin plug)

I would not bond the N and E bus without more information of your grid supply.

Unless things have changed recently, US boxes have separate N and E bars which are bonded.

I was at PMK's house with my multimeter today

between Line and N was about 156VAC between Line and Earth was about 238VAC and between N and Earth was about 75 VAC.

I suspect his ground is okay but I agree with installing a new one. I believe that MEN situation is not correct but I'm not sure the correct solution to that problem.

  11. I will be getting a visa extension next month and my expat health insurance bill came.

It doubled in price.  as I never intend to leave Thailand I was wondering if I could get good Thailand only health insurance. I do have the policy you get that isn't worth anything for my type OA visa.  I wondering about getting real health insurance. any helpful suggestions and experience is welcome.  also is there anything new I have to know for filing for my visa extension?

There is no parking. You uses to be able to park across the street but don't know if you still can.

I usually get off at the Ploen Chit BTS & hoof it.

No idea how the interview will go but as long as all your paperwork is in order you should be fine.

If you are working there are significant tax advantages to getting married, getting a ITIN for your wife and filing joint unless of course your GF earns more than you...

    Thank you.

I am retired and do not pay any taxes. we do not have much income. I will be filing for social security benefits for our new daughter  needless to say this was not planned.  My GF is Cambodian

In the current circumstances you will not be able to exit and re-enter Thailand in order to switch to the Non Imm O - retirement Visa (which does not require the mandatory thai IO-approved health-insurance).

So you will have no choice but to subscribe to such a thai IO-approved health-insurance policy.

Lucky for you, since early March 2020 finally an affordable thai IO-approved health-insurance policy is on offer. LMG Insurance provides such a policy for people in the age-bracket 51-60 for a 6.000 THB first-year premium.  Content-wise that policy - as well as all other thai IO-approved policies - is totally worthless, but it can be used just to meet the health-insurance requirement when applying for an OA-extension of stay.

I do actually have health insurance but probably not Thai approved  it was wonderful when I got Dengue Fever last year and spent a week in the hospital.

I am over 60 years old though.

is there a difference between type "o" and type "OA"

    I have Type "OA"

You can apply for an online account with Social Security, but be advised that, if you have a security block on access to your credit information, Social Security will not be able to verify your identity. Without verification, they will not give you an online account. With the online account, you can initiate your social security benefits to be direct deposited to your bank account.

can you have it deposited in a Thai bank?
