    Please be aware that...

Channels FOX Movies, FOX Action Movies, FOX Family Movies, FOX Life, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2, FOX Sports 3, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, Baby TV, Star Chinese Movies will be discontinued till 1st October, 2021. No clue what that means exactly. Unavailable now, but will be as ov 1-10-21, or available now until 30-9-21?

    https://www.ais.th/play/en/package.html

And an hour after you get the optimal set-up it'll require another week of re-tuning.

I'd make a list of the exact channels, streaming sources and specialized content you want, then start cobbling together solution(s).

AIS does offer Disney + Hotstar, their AIS Play offer may be losing channels soon, not sure about replacement. But check it out via your SIM for a month, cast to Chromecast.

TrueVisions does offer some American football, and F1 and golf/tennis majors.

For American football sign up for the free version of NFL GamePass International (no live regular season games - well maybe a few on NFL Network, but the do offer recaps, , or the full package at $199.99.

And look at the IPTV offers, and consider a more sophisticated Android streaming device/box.

And search through the sub-forums: Audio Visual, IT (this one) where you will find a lot of great detail from other members.

if you have a AIS phone number, you can get disney hotstar+ for 35 baht a month.

A friend needs it for personal knowledge.

I saw this little pharmacy on sukhumvit soi 15.  across from the closed down hooters.  one of those green places.  5 self test in a pack for about 1300 baht.  you can buy one self-test for about 200 baht.

  3. I've been to most places in southeast asia.  after many years of exploring I chose thailand.  it's a personal thing.  that said, everybody is different.  if you are really serious about coming over and retiring over here somewhere, I suggest you spend some time in each place to find out which place is right for you.  I've been living overseas now for close to 24 years. happy.

  4. buddha..  the more you want, the more you suffer.  so, to achieve that state of "empty" mind, try to eliminate all desire.  the less desire you have, the more content you are. gambling, drinking, whoring, smoking, drugs, etc.  these are things that make you happy for a short time.  but actually cause you pain in the long run because you become addicted to the behavior.  I am still a long way from achieving nirvana.  but I can see that I am much further up the ladder then many others.  my problem is I like accummulating material things.  pack rat.  I envy people who can live with nothing more than what they have in a backpack.  and are content with that.  I know a couple of people who have reached that level.  the closer you get to nirvana, the easier it becomes for you to recognize it in others.  it's all in the eyes.  where the eyes of a dead fish are cloudy, the eyes of someone aware are sharp.  when you look in their eyes, it's like you can see through them.  an endless hole.

I registered with 3 hospitals via expatvac.  the first hospital was bumrungrad.  after successfully registering, the system said I would get a response within 3 days, that response never came.  so, I then tried registering with medpark.  after successfully registering, the system said I would get a response within 24 hours.  on the 24th hour, I got a text saying my appointment was approved for the next day.  just for insurance, I still registered with another hospital.  one on sukhumvit soi 24.  I never did get a response from them to this day.  but then, it didn't matter anymore.  ..medpark did.  so, I went to medpark not expecting anything.  was surprised at the vip treatment I received.  in and out within 45 minutes.  15 minutes for paperwork and the jab.  30 minutes for the waiting period to make sure no negative response to the jab.  I'm scheduled for the second jab september 11.  I highly recommend medpark.

oh.  forgot to mention.  received the pfizer vaccine.

  6. for the years 2016 and 2018, I paid 7200 baht at the vietnam embassy in bangkok to get a 1 year visa to vietnam.  no problem.  just paid the money and waited 5 days for the visa to get processed.

I plan to go there next month sometime to get another 1 year visa.  not sure what if any changes have occurred since my last 1 year visa.  will find out and post it.

    1.      Yeah you are Asian, so do me a favor, share your Asian experience with someone who can relate. My experiences and how I was brought up probably isn’t the same as you nor how you react/behave in this country.

    2.      I don’t think you read my post/words with consideration as you have typed out some individual experience that in all respect...IMO, is a bit lame not to mention a bit cliché. You can’t even spell ‘fat’ in an English phonetical way to come near how it’s said in Thai. “Uuing,” for fat, come on now.

    3.      AUA? I didn’t learn my Thai from being held up in some school or group for teaching.

    4.      And my last and maybe most important point aside from that you are Asian;you used a single example/experience to say you ‘disagree’ with my post that included multiple experiences over time, particularly, repeated behaviors/views, at least, implied and that’s what I meant.

You then finish with ‘moral of the story. Adapt or die.’ Relate much? I don’t just mean with being a non-Asian in Thailand but when quoting someone to then disregard its contents and details provided for your own short-sided advice to adapt. You may need to adapt to keep your job and your boss happy…maybe that social circle that you value so much, being Asian.

I chuckle at your single experience typed. But yeah, I guess we can agree to disagree. Even though I never said anything about how much Thai people can remember. ????  I will take your point that “Asians have long memories,” sure. Can be quite petty and nosy too if you ask me. Just saying. Don’t mean to come off as negative. I just find the use of single instances to counter someone who was talking about continued views/behaviors experienced, again, ‘short-sided.’

sorry you got upset.  just my opinion.

dekem, thanks very much. You posted really good examples to open all our eyes again about the "salary talk".

Whenever I get asked about my salary, which does not happen often, I will either not answer or quote some low key figure - something that is still realistic but not high.

This is I think how we can spot a tourist or expat with little experience, when they walk around SEA and shout "that is so cheap" all the time.

glad I could help.  after living in thailand for 22+ years, I have a lot of stories.  enough to fill a book.

and yes, you are right.  the tourist or expat with little experience talk too much.  back when I first moved to thailand, haircuts were 50 baht.  and for that 50 baht, I got a haircut, a shave, my ears were cleaned, and I got a 5 minute shoulder massage.  then, I posted a story on nanapong, and the next thing you know, haircuts are 100 baht with no shave, ears cleaned and 5 minute massage.

    loose lips sink ships.

  9. you think it's silly???  people would kill for the job you have.  no joke.  if I were you, I would keep it low key.

a story...  when I was still working way back in 1997, I made about 50 dollars a hour.  typical month was 12k dollars when you include the overtime.  I told this story to someone in the PI.  there was this electrician working on my apartment replacing some electrical sockets.  when he heard us talking about our monthly salaries, he had this really sad look on his face.  out of curiosity, I asked him how much he made.  he replied 50 cents a day.  the minute he said this, I stopped talking about salaries.

another story...  when I first moved to thailand, I rented this small apartment near nana that rented for 70 dollars a month.  it was 24 sqm, had cable tv, and internet included.  I loved the place.  lived there for 2 years.  everyday, I walked out of that place with a smile on my face.  what a deal!  everyday, thais would ask me where I was going and what I was going to do.  not having a care in the world, I told them.  going to the gym.  meeting a friend.  etc.  I never said I was going to work.  one year later, the manager got mad at me for what I thought was silly.  she said you should not live here.  this place for poor people.  so, I left.

That depends. if you're talking to someone that makes it clear that they want to learn from a native speaker and welcome polite correction, then it's a wonderful thing to do for someone. But I wouldn't do that without it being clear that the person wants it. On the other hand, I've had some hilarious moments where Thai people rudely correct my pronunciation of ENGLISH words when of course they were wrong and I would have never asked them to do that.

The bigger ethical question is whether or not native English speaker should reply to broken pigeon Thaiglish in proper English or not.

in a teacher/student scenario, I would agree with you.  but in a situation where you are dealing with strangers, those correcting others for errors in grammar are usually snobs.  snobs are not necessarily just foreigners.  there are thai snobs, chinese snobs, etc.  the worst type of snob is those who just totally ignore you when you speak their language and they don't think you should be doing so for whatever reason.

I truly believe the United Kingdom will very soon be the global financial hub of the world! And its currency will once again have strength because of stability!

the global financial hub of the world will be the country that comes out with the most inventions.  when you make inventions, you have stuff to sell others.  as a result, you have money circulating around you.

that said, what has the UK invented in the last century?  for that matter, what exactly has UK done to justify their exchange rate so high compared to other currencies?

the same can be said for china, and every other country in the world.  what has your country contributed to the benefit of mankind that would justify your standing in the world?

question.... in the last century, most of the most important inventions in the HISTORY of mankind came from what country?  hint:  this country invented the airplane, the internet, the computer, computer languages, micro chips, cell phones, light bulbs, radio, etc.  the list goes on.

So to answer your question 26.

So to answer your other question, Thankyou for offer but no need. I know I wrong a lot, if I want I can look up sentence structure. But I to lazy to do with every sentence. Make me want to sleep. Is boring. Then in one week forget again.

my way is to train English, more than study English. I think better for me.

Can not learn to quickly everything. Is quite difficult. Just do it!

if your native language is not english, and you live in thailand.  there is no reason why you should be ashamed of your english.  people who correct others all the time on their use of grammar are what you call "SNOBS".  ignore them.

Hi Sir... I can only hope that some of this disrespect is just on TVF and people are more polite in public and personal interactions... but more and more, from what i read here, and some of what I see, many foreigners are simply rude. They are angry and confrontational and those are qualities that do not go down well. Thai are much more perceptive than these Westerners can imagine...

    talk about condesending....

yes, there are a lot of <deleted> farangs.  I agree.  I grew up with them.  so, I know...

on the other hand, there are a lot of <deleted> everywhere you go including in thailand.

you say the thais don't give a hoot about what foreigners think?  well, then, why the tm30 debacle and the 800k baht rule?  as I see it, I believe it is due to the thais just getting fed up with all the whining and rants that many of the <deleted> farangs have been pushing on thaivisa.

not all foreigners are like this.  we are not all <deleted>.

Thanks Yinn... this is truly what Thai people think.. my family would be bored by TVF conversations in 2 minutes...

I walked past a frustrated Westerner at a shopping mall sitting at an AIS booth or something... he was calm at least, but telling the young lady who worked there how customer service was so much better in his country... the fact that it was Sunday and she probably could not do much to help anyway... but, this condescending <deleted> goes on all the time...

come on.  give me a break.  the FACT that you are replying indicates the opposite of what you are saying.

as for the condescending...  both parties are guilty of it.

First, I'd like to say, Thais could care less really about gripes or complaints from foreigners. That's right, even if we have a valid point or logical idea...

I disagree with you.  and just to let you know, I'm asian.

asians in general have long memories.  if you do something good to them, they remember.  for instance, I had this friend of mine (who happens to also be asian) give this ladyboy who was begging for money to get food to eat 200 baht.  several years later, she still remembers me and my friend.

when I first moved to thailand 22+ years ago, I didn't know any thai.  I remember walking up and down this soi.  the motorcycle taxi guys would greet me with "uuing".  they ALL would say that to me every day.  "uuing".  "uuing".  after a few weeks of this, I thought to myself..  "uuing" must mean hello.  so, I started saying "uuing" to everybody too.  people miles away would say "uuing" to me too.  so, in my mind, "uuing" MUST mean hello.

then, I started my classes at AUA.  on the first day when I greeted the teacher with "uuing" thinking I was smart.  she replied "why you call me fat?"

on that day, I realized that all the motorcycle taxi guys on my soi told all the motorcycle taxi guys up and down the block my story.  I'm talking for miles around, mind you.  I realized I was a big joke to all of them.

thais remember EVERYTHING.  and they spread it around.  all asians are like this.  whether you are in thailand, china, the PI, cambodia, etc.  EVERYWHERE.

a long time ago, I almost went crazy over this reality.  but then, I realized it's everywhere.  heck, you get confirmation of this on thaivisa.

moral of the story,... adapt or die.

  16. my 2 cents...

I read somewhere that for first timers, it's 2 months.  but for those who are renewing a retirement visa extension, it is 3 months.

that said, I didn't want to take a chance on whether it was 2 months or 3 months.  so, I deposited the money 3 months before my current retirement visa extension expires.

that done...  life has told me via experience that things don't happen the way you want them to happen far more times then not.  so, for plan b, I'm planning on getting a 1 year visa for vietnam next month.  plan c is to prepare for the possibility of relocating to the PI.

already planned out where I will move to in saigon if things don't pan out.  same for the PI.  already have plan b and c ready to implement if necessary.  I suggest you do too.

the worst scenario is being disappointed in the information you get from someone else.  many times, I've had "friends" swear to me on their monther's grave that so and so stock was a sure winner.  only to lose big time.  suffice to say, we are not friends anymore.  who needs "friends" who swear on their mother's grave?  ...now, IMAGINE if you had a dozen "friends" like that?  ... life would be hell.
