Free speech.
See the title of the topic.
Read my contributions on that that subject in this thread. A good thread bye the way.

It's not all about money, you know.
So if it's not all about money where is it about?

Debatable.
Not debatable. Chinese people have more money to spend than they ever had. Lots of Chinese inlanders visit Thailand. More freedom than ever for our Chinese brothers and sisters, also on the internet. In the end it's about money and comparing China with the European or American way of living is unfair. A little bit of knowledge about Chinese history won't hurt.

The term Farang means foreigner means outsider means man from over there, an Alien. It implies difference, i.e, not the same, not deserving to be Thai, less than.
The word 'farang' means white people from abroad. It implies nothing more than that.

Wow, You Americans are still obsessed with the word <deleted>. Being Dutch that's a word from ancient times. If we want to point out a person with a different color we say white or black. Same as pointing out someone with ginger hair or someone who's lang, tall, fat, small or handsome. If your skin is black, white or in between, who gives a <deleted>.

No but you should be allowed to tell him that and he should be able enough to rebut it with "its the law" if you dont like it vote xyz next time.
Yes you are right. But after that, I would think he's probably the result of inbreed. Do you think I could translate this thought into words without consequences? Freedom of speech?
The point I want to make is this: there is no freedom of speech, only freedom of thoughts.

Free speech? What's the definition of free speech? Does that mean that every thought you have, can be translated into words? Example: you get a ticket for speeding. You think the policeman is an <deleted> for giving you that ticket. You translate your thoughts into words: mister policeman, you are an <deleted>. Doesn't probably help you, does it?
So, as a general rule, there is no freedom of speech never, ever. Your thoughts are totally free but your speech is not.

If/when the Dutch government would think Van Laarhoven was wrong in the slightest way, do you think the Dutch government would send the highest boss of the Justice Department to Thailand to sort things out?

Van Laarhoven didn´t do anything wrong. 1. He sold his weed legally at different legal shops. 2. He didn´t laundry money. 3. He payed his taxes. The issue, not more or less, was, did he pay enough tax. This was an ongoing discussion between Van Laarhoven and the Dutch Taxman.
The guy never sold or bought weed in Thailand. He never whitewashed his money in Thailand or in The Netherlands.
It's not something a government does easily: sending a Minister of Justice to another country trying to make things right.
Shame on you The Netherlands and shame on you Thailand, for convicting an innocent man and his wife.

But he has just one, this probably means they tossed his TM28 in the trash, because they don't care about it.
Yeah, the IO probably tossed the TM28 in the trash. But not before she took a long look at it, comparing the information on this form with the info on my passport and the TM30.

What POA they wanted? From the homeowner?
jackdd just explained if your doing the TM30 in ur name for urself they it doesn’t need POA.
Not yet, but officially you DO need a POA from the homeowner if you´re the tenant, even if your name is on the contract. Probably to much hassle at CW for the IO's right now to follow the rules strictly. But that can change tomorrow. So why take the risk?

I just got my US passport renewed
Will go to CW next week for my retirement yearly extension of stay
If I get mt TM 30 first will they put it in the new passport?
Thanks
You can not just show up with a new passport at an Immigration Office. The transition from your old passport to a new passport is a procedure in itself. If I remember correctly, it´s a few years ago, I had the same issue. You need to fill in a form and have to show copies of the ID-page and every stamped/visa page from your old passport. After that they give you a stamp in your new passport confirming the transition.
Now your new passport is considered legal and will you be able go through all the 'normal' procedures, needed to get an extension of stay.
But this info is a few years old and was not at CW, so maybe things have changed or are different at CW.

Existing TM30 would have an expiry date on it (=end of extension date?) so after you have extended would need another TM30 with a new expiry date on it I would imagine?
The TM30 receipt of notification stapled in my passport has no expiry date on it, just a date of issue.

Thanks for the info!
There will be no need to do another one.

I just checked the differences between the receipts of notifications of TM30 and TM28 online. It seems it's a TM30 receipt I have stapled in my passport. You could be right. To be honest, I didn't pay attention at the time.
A minute ago I checked the receipt and it didn't tell me if it came from TM30 or TM28.
Question: if I don't leave the country or don't use a hotel until my next annual extension, do I still need to go through the unpleasant TM30 proces? Or is the TM30 receipt sufficient.

Summary: you arrived early...got a low B counter number. But if showing up later in the morning it would have probably been a different story.
Normally I show up at CW at around 9 am, but different sources on the internet convinced me that going in early seemed like a good idea when dealing with counter B.

The OI stapled a receipt of notification (the one at the bottom of the TM-30 form), with her name and rank, my new address, my name and the date in my passport.
The rest of my paperwork was laid on an alarmingly fast growing pile of paperwork next to her on her desk.

During my last '90 days visit' to CW I asked the highest ranking officer in sight about the procedure when moving to another place in Bangkok. She explained that I need the condo owner to fill in the TM-30 form and deliver it personally. When I explained to her that he's unable to visit CW because of his work, she told me to get a Power of Attorney. No mention about me filling in the TM-30 form myself. What she needed from me, was the TM-28 form.
After the TM-30 thing was implemented, it was indeed possible to fill in the TM-30 form yourself as I experienced when applying for my yearly retirement visa last April. I had the impression they were a bit flexible just after the implementation of TM-30, because most people were caught by surprise.
Maybe it's still possible to do the TM-30 thing yourself, I have no idea, but it seemed wiser just to follow the exact rules especially when dealing with Thai Immigration.

Last week I went to CW because we moved to a new place. I filled in both forms (TM-30 and TM-28), made the required copies and included a power of attorney filled in by the condo owner, a Thai guy. I didn't know that before, but you can buy Power of Attorney forms at every decent bookshop, like a notebook with lots of forms.
Anyway, I was there at 7 am, got a queue number (140), stood in line for a while and got in at about 8 am, with queue number 35 for the B counter. The counter opened at 8.30 am and at 9 am it was my turn. At 9.05 it was all done. The OI stapled a paper in my passport and that was it. It took me 2 hours, so all the horror stories about waiting all day are not true anymore.
The condo owner gave me 4 or 5 Power of Attorney forms, filled in obviously without the dates. So next times, I don't need the condo owner for whatever reason anymore. I also have some copies of his Chanote and ID-card, both with his signature and of course without dates. (Side note: let a Thai person fill in the dates, because Thai people have a tendency to write some numbers a bit different than 'farang', for example the number 8).
The funny thing is that it was all his idea. What I learned: it takes a Thai to <deleted> with the (Thai) system. By the way: the Thai guy is a respectable physician at a well known Bangkok hospital.
We also have a house up-country and of course I won't go to the Immigration Office over there when we visit the place, but that's a different story.
