Why does the British Embassy say they don't need to provide assistance to UK nationals who have been kidnapped in Thailand by Thai police. You know the case.

The Thailand Elite visa is a multiple entry Tourist Visa with the silly tag "Privileged Entry" to make it sound posh.
I have one. Works great but don't expect any good service from Thai immigration.

Here is the fact of the Thailand Elite Visa when charged in a criminal case.
1) The Elite visa is simply a multi-entry tourist visa wrapped up in a posh name. It is still a good visa, but it's not really a VIP Visa at all. Don't expect Thailand Elite to push back against incompetent government staff for you.
2) If you are charged with a Criminal Case in Thailand where bail must be paid, your Elite Visa WILL be cancelled. As some readers may know, a charge can be made without any real evidence for the purpose of causing severe inconvenience to the person charged.
3) Upon winning your case, you must do the paperwork yourself to re-instate your Elite visa. Thailand Elite won't lift a finger to help you.
You can then optionally sue anyone involved for the financial damages.

I gotta say, the service they provide at airport is excellent, meeting at gate with buggy to fast track lanes.. same with departures.
Yes, that part of the Thai Elite service is great, really the best Thai service I've experienced in years. Polite, professional, courteous staff.
Just remember your sunglasses and a hat to avoid the embarrassment of being driven in a Gold Golf buggy, siren blazing, with the lady driver 'shooing' groups of Chinese tourists out of the way like bugs.

The only advantage to Elite other than not having to deal with the paperwork etc of annual extensions of stay that I have been able to identify is fast track through airport immigration. It is very poorly designed with no meaningful benefits other than ability to stay in Thailand. Even for people living in Bangkok there is no real 90 day reporting service as I would define it...as people have to travel in person to Elite office to drop off passport and again to pick it up.
You do not have to go in person to the Thailand Elite office for the 90-day report. You can send your staff, a friend, a messenger.

You do not need to make a police report to report your UK passport as lost or stolen to the UK Government. You can do it online in minutes.

I have an Elite card.
Did you know the 'Elite Visa' is nothing of the kind. Your Visa is simply a normal TOURIST Visa that allows a 90 day entry only, with the bonus of being able to send Elite staff to go and do your 90 day report. You can confirm this at the Elite office.
So effectively once you leave Thailand and your Elite card has almost expired, you would only be able to get at least one more 90 day entry, not 1 year. I know this because I asked at the head office.
