  1. A tall curly headed ladt was selling DVD's and I asked her about the quality and she said they were all DVD copies and not cinema video camera jobs, she even warned me off one or two that were not good quality.

Cut a long story short, the lying bitch sold me a really crap copy (some were OK) but the one I specifically asked about she just blatantly lied about.

    Which film was it ?

    The Bourne Ultimatum

What a laugh. What did you expect, buying a copy of a movie just realeased in the cinema and not yet available on DVD? Too soon?....its still playing in Pattaya cinemas right now!

As has been said before, you CAN get good copies before it comes out on DVD.

  2. I suppose it could work nicely if you had 2 U.K passports. I still recall there is a regulation that says you must be out of thailand when applying for a visa, I would think just because your passport is out of the country,it doesnt really count as applying for the visa outside of thailand.

Yeah 2 passports is the way to go.

It only just came out at the cinema, how could it be a DVD copy.

    See post above

  4. isnt that illegal?

Not at all. I have a valid visa in my current passport here with me and sent my new passport to UK for a new visa, all legal and perfectly acceptable. You are entitled to send your visa to a consulate / embassy for a visa, a lot of business travelers do it regularly.

  5. I don't know why you are so pist off. There is no way you can get a good copy of a movie that is still in the cinema. Simple rule when buying copy DVDs.

Just because she was such a lying cow really.

Only recently came out, normally newer ones aren't good for a least a month. Keep that in mind when buying a new release, course if they have a studio copy then all is well.

Yeah that's why I checked with her, I thought it would be too soon but she assured me it was a DVD copy.......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  8. I couldn't bear the country living here, it is just too much for me. BKK gives me everything I need and the convenience, but with the rising prices here, if I was a retiree or someone on a budget I might have to consider moving out of the city as many do in our home countries too, eg. I wouldn't want to pay the prices in London these days. Nothing is perfect though, I can see the attractive points of living in the quieter countryside but they just aren't enough to make me want to stay there for more than a long weekend once a year.

  9. Well, after all the time I have been living here I have never been ripped off and when I buy my DVD's in Bangkok I accept that the odd one might be no good but safe in the knowledge they always change it for me.

Today was the last day of a nice week in Pattaya and we were having a drink on the beach whilst waiting for our driver to bring us back to BKK. A tall curly headed ladt was selling DVD's and I asked her about the quality and she said they were all DVD copies and not cinema video camera jobs, she even warned me off one or two that were not good quality.

I have a god eye for faces so rest assured I will visit her again next time I am in Pattaya, but for anyone else, just a warning about this one.

Quality of copied goods is one thing, it is the blatant lying to your face that annoys me.

Everything else was great in Pattaya as usual but the turban tailor brigade on beach road are annoying beyond measure.

  10. I'd have to say most Thai(s) are not in good shape. Go out to the country side and you will see the standard of living. Most are poor and heavily in debt with no way out. :o Unfortunately this isnt going to change anytime soon.

I think that a lot of debt here as in the West is self inflicted to a point, not all. For example in my wife's village most people have paid for their house and live a stable existence, certainly not poor. OK if you want to compare to the Bangkok Thais' they are poor but it is all relative, where they are most people in the moo maan do ok, certainly relatively speaking as well as my grandparents and some people I know back home, if anything thy have a less stressful lifestyle becaus of the lack of mortgage worries, bills etc.

I am talking about Sakhorn area.

  11. It is the ruling classes that want to keep the majority of Thai people poor and stupid, it is to their advantage, that is why the basic free education is crap and they are fed nonsense on the TV with almost no educational programmes except for a minute of that painful English on tour and the bald farang who dresses up in silly costumes to present a "whacky" 2 minutes of English.

I don't think that many of us well paid expats that plow a lot of our hard earned money into the Thai economy want Thailand to stay poor, my wife and her family are Thai and I like to see their situation improve, maybe some of the budget English teachers and retirees would like the place to stay cheap but that's just human nature.

If someone needs to be ranted at, a look far closer to home is needed.

  12. Due to the fact I have so much leisure time here and a great gym at my condo I am putting in some serious gym time. Heavier than before but most of it is muscle so I am not complaining, also the Thai diet agrees with me. Couple this with the fact that the Thai people in my gym are lazy <deleted> who like to look at themselves in the mirror all the time and not break a sweat gives us real enthusiasts the opportunity to train hard.

PS The gym is cheap as chips here too

I can see the muscle, but how did you turn green? :o

    Swimming in Pattaya

  13. Just wondering,

    who are Mad Dog mc.

They turned up at a food and beer joint in Issan.

    Back patches, boots and all.

But when they left it was by mini bus/van.

Ask the ladyboys in the sally bar in Jomtien, they know them well :o

Yeah, it surprised me too. Not what i expected from 'ard looking bikers. Must be a yin and yang thing

  14. If you are living in LOS and are not young, rich and/or handsome, your chanches of attaching to an upper class or even middle class lady are slim. They are not going to lower themselves and tarnish their reputation by bothering with Farangs unless they may have something unusual to offer.

    What utter nonsense :o

In fact its absolutely true. Most educated middle class Thai women wouldnt dream of marrying a falang. That feeling is changing but very slowly. Just because bar girls love falangs doesnt mean the rest do.

Don't talk crap. I think you move in the wrong circles mate, I know plenty of educated Thai women both here and in Europe and the US that are happily married to westerners.

Tarnish their reputation indeed, what planet are you on?

  15. Hi folks, am trying to gauge the the turnaround/decision times for postal applications as regards Indefinite Leave to Remain.

So if there are posters about who have gone through this process can you state when approximately was your spouses/partners application and how long did it take for a decision to be made.

Incidentally the current published service standards are as follows.

Applications made by post: decide 70% of applications within

    4 weeks (20 working days) and 90% within 14 weeks (70

    working days).

Applications made in person: decide 98% within 24 hours.

Now to my mind there seems to be some anomaly within those figures as shown.

Do they mean applicants are treated with greater leniency if they present themselves in person ?

There does seem to be a massive time gap in the 70% to 90% region of postal applicants which obviously does not happen if you apply in person. Why ?

Less than 2 weeks by post but that was about 4 years ago.

  16. "Pool" is a good word to use since many of the Falang men in Thailand qualify as pond life. Many supposed "liberated" guys who date poor uneducated women and tell us how freethinking they are do it because they are themselves sad, poorly educated losers or on the rebound from some european woman and think they can intimidate a poorly educated Thai woman from a humble background. Or else they are control freaks or insecure and afraid of a real partnership. Of course its never described as intimidation....just keeping them on pocket money, hiding their assets, making no attempt to learn Thai or encouraging their partner to shoot higher than a cleaning job. How you can have a real relationship without communicating properly is beyond me. How you can have a real relationship when you have completely diferent perspectives, educations and outlooks is beyond me. I guess so many relationship work because

a Girl has no other choice

b Man keeps her on a tight financial reign.

d man has such low expectations as regular sex and food

d Friendship is for friends not partner

e Thai women have such low expectaions of falang men (justifiably)

If I had a baht for everytime a Falang guy has told me how to manage a thai woman, keep her poor and badly informed, still have lots of sex on the side "Thai women are used to men going to brothels its part of their culture" and how happy their wife is.....hahahahaha. I would be as rich as Thaksin.

Too true, it makes me cringe when I listen to Thai / Western couples who communicate on the lowest level of understanding because she can't speak more than basic English and he can't be bothered or is not capable of learning more than a few basic Thai words. Dating by class is not so much an issue but dating someone you can't communicate with, what's the point?
