The DLT has asked for cooperation from the Royal Thai Police to suspend the charging for all holders of licenses which expired from April 10 to Sept 30 this year. The licenses are considered valid. Drivers can use them as usual,” the officer said.

“At this stage, the deadline is only Sept 30, but if the DLT issues an order to extend the period suspending services, the deadline will be extended for sure. Do not worry about the license during this time. No police will check your license for sure,” he added.

So grace periode is over since october that's why the BiB in action again.

"..  extend the expiry date of driving licenses and personal vehicle licenses and allow them to be used when necessary to present to the authorities, until September 30, 2021. As the COVID-19 situation has escalated, the DLT is coordinating with the RTP to ease the enforcement of the law. The RTP is extending the period of leniency in enforcing any rules, regulations, ordinances and orders affecting holders of expired driving licenses under the law on cars and holders of expired personal driving licenses, allowing them to be used until December 31, 2021."

It's not OK, meaning you can be fined for driving on an expired license if you happen to be stopped, but if you renew within a year you don't have to retake the written or do the practical driving test, just take the normal physical tests for vision and reaction time.  Also, because your license is expired you will be renewed for nearly 6 years (expiring on your birthday), rather than just 5.

Okey, I have just read before what has been said online about it but maybe it has been changed since then. I was stopped in May (Lop Buri) and in September (Phuket) with my license that expired in April, no mention about it.

( u will note its NOT the officer that asks for 300)

What do you mean with this? The immigration officer told me to pay 300 (I had the money in my pocket until they asked for it). I know I can argue with them and tell them it's free but I am fairly new here and just wanted to be over with it. But up to you, I am not going to argue here either about this, just wanted you to know it was the officer that asked for it.

  5. Update (if anyone else is going to renew license at DLT Phuket soon and want to know):

I was at the DLT today (when they opened) and got an appointment 22 december, so right now its around 10+ weeks that you'll have to wait until you can renew your license.

Just prepare all the papers (+ the e-learning) and go there and they will check your paperwork, staple it together and give you a date and time when you can come back.

  6. I went there yesterday, everything was fast and easy.

What I needed for the Residence Certificate (if someone else is wondering):

    - Application Form for Residence Certificate in Thailand - แบบขอหนังสือรับรองถิ่นที่พักอาศัยในประเทศ (can download from Phuket Immigration website)

    - Copies from following passport pages:

    Detail page

    Current visa/extension

    Last entry stamp

    TM6 departure card

    - 1 x Passport size picture

    - Copy of the address notification receipt

    - 300 THB (I was told by the Volunteer, who checked the paperwork, that they will ask for 300 THB If I want it same day otherwise I have to come pick it up other day. So I paid when asked to pay and got the certificate after 5 min wait. It doesn´t really bother me and I didn´t feel like arguing over 300 baht but it's up to you I guess).

Hi Andreas, have just done it for my licence renewal.

You also need a copy of your receipt of address notification

    ????

Thank you for the information Mark!

Did you have the "Filled in TM30 form. (House owner section can be left blank)" as per the information from Piv-Phukets website and just add the copy of your receipt of address notification?  Thanks again

The TM30 form is only for you to register your address at Phuket Immigration.  If you are not registered, you will not be able to get your "Residence Certificate".

    Thanks for the reply.

I am already registered at Phuket Immigration and do my 90 days there every time also.

I am just reading the information that Piv-Phuket gives at https://piv-phuket.com/others/residence-certificate/ , and it seems that even though you have a "Up to date address registration" they say "Filled in TM30 form." is a required paper, but maybe I am reading it wrong.

So I only need the following papers if I understand you correctly? Thanks for the help.

    Copies from following passport pages:

    Detail page
    Current visa/extension
    Last entry stamp
    TM6 departure card

    Passport size picture.

Yes, do the online viewing.  Office is open again.  Likely the first time you go you will be given appointment to return.

Okay thank you. I could not use the DLT Smart Queue with passport, so you mean I have to go there first in person to make appointment and return at a later date with the documents and make the tests?

  10. Hello.

Has anyone got a "residence certificate" at Phuket Immigration recently for the purpose of renewing driving license or other purpose?

I read on Piv-Phuket.com that you need

"Filled in TM30 form. (House owner section can be left blank)

    Copies from following passport pages:

    Detail page
    Current visa/extension
    Last entry stamp
    TM6 departure card

    Passport size picture."

But at the Phuket Immigration website they have a form called "Application Form for Residence Certificate in Thailand - แบบขอหนังสือรับรองถิ่นที่พักอาศัยในประเทศ". I guess Piv have not updated their website and that you should use this form instead of TM30, or somebody know which papers are required?

I will prepare them all, no problem, just want to know so it will go as fast and smooth as possible at the immigration ???? Thank you.

  11. Has anyone renewed the license lately?  Is it open again?

I read that you have to do training first at www.dlt-elearning.com. Do you do the training, then bring the documents and go to the dlt office for the reaction tests etc?

I have a 2 year license that expired in February, and have not been able to renew it yet. Will renew for five year both car and motorbike.

    Anyone knows? Thanks!
