I have been living in Thailand for 10 years, married to a Thai and have an 8 year old Thai son. Always get 1 year non immigrant extension based on being married to a Thai. We are to divorce soon (divorce the wife, not the son) !!  So I guess the extension based on marriage won't be possible any more. My pal tells me I can apply for 'retirement visa' instead as I am 53 as long as I can show over 800,000 in a Thai bank for 6 months. Does this sound the best/only option?  Another pal said I could get the extension based on the fact that I take care of my son financially but this would involve the wife (who is a pain the <deleted>)

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

Thank you so much for your comments. So it sounds like a retired UK passport holder is best, even if they are not on the special list of occupations... I have plenty of Brit pals here in Bkk who have known me and my son for many years, but none of them are on the list of preferred occupations. I will make sure they sign the photo as well. Hiya, I am a UK passport holder but living in Bangkok I am applying to renew my 8 year old son's passport and understand that someone must countersign on the passport application form. I am confused as to who can do this as there is a preferred list of acceptable occupations of the 'countersigner'  but I also read that the countersigner should not be a Thai, but instead a UK passport holder ?  Can anyone help please ? Thanks in advance !
