When denied, did you have an option to fly to a different country? Or they forced you back to home country?
I was pulled aside a half year back and very nearly not let in. I flirted with the ladyboy supervisor and got through though. The mid-level officer was on a mission to send me back.
They forced me back to my home country. It had to be the same airline and everything. I showed them I could fly out a few hours later on (I think) Japan Airlines for considerably less but I had to buy direct from China Southern at literally the last hour.

If someone official asks for a fee, then that's up to them. You won't get into trouble for paying it. If you offer someone cash to change their mind, that's a bribe and is risky.
If you get stuck in Thailand you can always ask the official "how much is the fee?". If they respond with an amount and you pay it, you can just tell the truth and said that you paid the fee. Is that a bribe? Probably. Did you do anything wrong? Almost certainly not.
If an official person in a foreign country accepts a fee or fine, who are you to argue? For all the first-time visitor knows it's all above board, and a good way to avoid getting into serious trouble.
Thanks Steve, I really appreciate that. Live and learn I guess.

Nope. How can they jail you for paying a fee? I think you need to learn more about Thailand and how things work here, sounds like you've got a lot to learn. Pay someone $100 or be flown home at your (massive) expense? This smells like another thread that was posted not too long ago. How can you be too frazzled to pay $100 but cognisant enough to pay thousands of dollars to go home?
You even used the same terminology as the previous post to which I refer. Is something suspicious going on here?
That thread was probably mine.
I just mean I didn't know how bribes worked. I've never been offered to pay a bribe before and my sleep deprived mind went to the worst case scenario. Knowing what I know now, I would have done it for sure.

They actually gave me the chance to give them a 'donation' of $100, which in retrospect I should have given. But I was so frazzled at that point I assumed they would throw me in jail the moment I pulled out the cash.

Does the reason for being denied entry still exist?
Apparently I was denied under section 12.2. That is for not having the appropriate means of living in the country.
Although that was never the case. I had sufficient funds in cash on me and everything else required to enter the country. I assume they want me to upgrade to the Elite Visa if I want to spend so much time in Thailand.
I just hope having been outside the country since July they would let me back in for the remained of my METV.

After visiting family for 2 months in Canada last summer I came back to Thailand with a valid METV in September 2019 and was denied entry. They sent me back home that night.
Not being able stand Canadian winters, I booked a flight to Cambodia as soon as I could and have been staying here ever since.
My METV is still valid and I plan to fly from Siem Reap to BKK before it expires.
So my question is: If I get denied entry again will they send me back to Cambodia or will they make me fly all the way back to Canada?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It seems that you really want to come back to Thailand.
Why not just pay the bribe and be done with it. The worst thing about bribes is that they are so effective at achieving the desired end results. Sure, they are unethical, illegal, and one shouldn't have to pay them, but they have been the grease that has turned the wheels since the beginning of time. We can fight it all we like, waving our moral banner to and fro, the the bottom line is; do you want to achieve your desired result? Or are you satisfied just sending letters to Thai Visa?
Definitely wasn't a moral issue. Knowing what I know now, I'll do it next time if it's ever offered again.

I'm 31. It was a man in the booth but he quickly summoned his supervisor who brought me to the table with 3 women.

Fine you caught me. They were just medium nice. Maybe that's why?

Having 20K satisfies 12.9 and doesn't stop you being denied under 12.2.
You are not banned.
You could try again, but given your history you have a high chance of being denied again.
Would the stamp hurt my chances of getting the Elite Visa if I went that route?

To be clear, I’m not a broke looking traveller or anything. I make a point of wearing a nice blazer and nice pants whenever going through any airport.
I arrived at BKK Saturday September 21 with a brand new passport, a recently issued METV, 20,000 baht cash (Canadian equivalent), proof of onward travel and proof of hotel reservations for the first few nights.
After looking at my passport a lot longer than usual the IO summoned his boss and I was taken to that table in the corner where I was questioned about what I was doing in Thailand.
They asked if I had the cash which I showed them and they even counted it and did the conversion on her phone - around 21,000 baht.
Anyway, after being questioned for about 30 mins they sent me downstairs to some sketchy room where I was asked for a bribe to not send me home. He basically said if I gave him $100 USD he would put me on a flight to a neighboring country and I would be let back in the next day.
I was fried at that point and scared so I just said I want to go back home. So they stamped my passport (see picture), booked me a flight at my expense and sent me back to Canada.
From what I’ve been reading, the stamp says I was denied due to lack of funds (even though I had cash and need to show proof of funds to get the visa in the first place). Can anyone confirm that?
I think my METV is still valid as I see no markings on it.
Here’s the thing. I am a frequent visitor to Thailand.
My previous passport had 5 SETV’s and 1 METV with a few trips back home. The latest being away from Thailand for 2 months.
So what are my options? Does that stamp mean I’m banned from Thailand or is it worth trying again?
I was thinking of staying in Canada for 3 more months, for a total of 5 months away from Thailand and trying again in January.
Any suggestions?

Entering Thailand after being denied in September 2019
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Thanks for the help everyone. I already bought the plane ticket to BKK but after this I think I will enter by land.
At least I'll have proof of onward travel if they ask for it!????
