  1. Chiangmai means Chiangmai province and that up in the mountains to where the temp goes down.

But it can be very cold in the city to the most i have experienced here in the city is -6 degrees centigrades in the morning .

So dont laugh at the Temps. :)

I have lived in Chiang Mai for 8 years and it has never been -6C in the city, FACT. If it was that cold there would be sheets of ice on the road.

Now that would be interesting watching a Thai trying to cope with those conditions, LOL...

me too and the lowest i can remember was 13.7 recorded at the airport.Think he means Shanghai not Chiangmai

  2. Hi

Need to know what options are available for myself and timescale etc.

Im currently on a Non Imm B visa but have closed the company and my visa expires today so went to Mae sai and was stamped until 3rd of Febuary

My next course of action will be to obtain a visa/extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai national.

My current situation is i fall short of the 400k and will not have sufficient funds available until the 6th of next month [oversight by myself as bank need 1 months notice to release monies which is locked in a fixed account] which i am calculating will no be enough time to leave the money in a savings account for 60 days before applying 3-4 weeks before my stay expires,so my questions are as follows.

1..Whats is the latest i could apply for the extension?

2..is it possible to obtain the visa/extension outside of Thailand,if so the best place to go and what funds are required?

3..Does the time frame allow me still to do this in thailand?

have searched the forum but couldnt get to the answers so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

  3. Hi all,

I was planning on shpping some handicraft items to the UK November / December time this year 08 but may not require a full container. Rather than go down the riskier route of LCL I ws wondering if anyone would be interested in splitting and sharing the cost of a 20ft container and the associated FOB and costs at the other end. Ideally the container would be loaded in Chiang Mai.

    Hope to hear back

    Best wishes

    Charles

  4. I hope this helps.

In April the employment office in Chiangmai told me not to let my work permit expire as they now require the 2 million Baht to be in the bank before issuing a new one but if you possess one then no problem. Also in April they issued a one year work permit as opposed to 3 months running alongside my visa, the cost was 3400 Baht.

  5. Traditionally in western realtionships the Father of the bride paid for the wedding etc but in modern times this was abandonned and most families share the cost together. All of my Thai friends paid a dowry which was then returned to them to help them start married life also a few farang friends too and this is the modern way in Thailand but apperently not when involving most farang/Thai relationships. As for the amount you are sending month per month, and are quite happy to do so,you probably should take this into the equation as it is a huge amount by Thai standards and maybe you could reduce this and pay slightly more dowry in the range of 50-250k and hopefully keep everybody happy.

  6. Just returned from Penang where i used a visa agent to obtain my Multi entry non imm B visa and can highly recommend Patrick at Hotel Continental which is who i used.Patrick organised everything and has been an agent for 15 years.Price was 800 Ringits which included pick up and return from the Airport and all i had to do was sign the application form and leave the rest to him.Documents supplied were 1 set of accounts,i verified share holders list,Copies of tax returns, company registration document and 1 work permit with a one year validity stamp, company invitation letter and 2 passport photos.

Regarding some other posts about Penang and agents here is what i learned.Penang has a new Consular and is not as easy as before but providing your documents are in order there is no problem.Hope this helps some of you.

  8. Just got back on Friday from KL.Apply for your Visa 9am-12am and pick up after 11.30am the next day so it doesnt sound as though you have enough time unless your flight is late afternoon.Stayed at the Renaissance 2400 baht inc breakfast and the corus 1800 baht, both excellent hotels. You can get a decent pint of guiness at the restaurants in the park backside of the petronas towers for 180 baht.
