  1. i got deported a few years back for something "worse" than overstay (still a passport issue). after court and 7 days in IDC i HAD to go to my country of origin (a south african guy there spend 3 months in IDC cause all the direct flights home (1/week) were full till then)

nothing else was accepted even not with help from my embassy. in IDC you pay for food so safe to say the ticket home comes out of your pocket :) that and about a zillion shakedowns along the way ... i do have a nasty stamp in my passport and i think it just says that i was deported and went to court.

safe to say that thanks to my dual citizenship i now travel to thailand on a different passport and have never been refused entry, even after them staring at their screens for what felt like a very ... long ... time. i have the passport if anyone wants to see the stamp.

  2. I'm a freelancer who can work anywhere with a solid internet connection and im thinking of spending a bit more time in thailand than I do during my usual holidays. what kind of long term (3 - 6 - 12 months) accommodation is available in the Phuket area that has a separate bedroom, within walking distance of the beach and solid and reliable internet (paid) for around 10,000 baht per month?

In addition to Phuket id happily stay in Krabi (not the town but the beaches), Ko Lanta, ... anything near the islands and beaches there.

Anything charming and sunny for that budget or mostly box rooms?

  3. if you do decide to turn your personal pc into a webhost, do some serious reading on security. you are making your personal computer accessible to the world and if you do it wrong, anyone can roam around your files

  4. here in europe it is the case that you can buy a place, stick in a new kitchen and bathroom and rent it out immediately at a rate that covers your mortgage + beer money. by the time the first tennant leaves after 3-4 yrs, you jack your rent up 20% and you have yourselves a second income. my old flat was owned by a turkish guy who owned 6-7 small apts and lived off it. i guess its foolish to think you could do the same in thailand but just less capital to start off

  5. does anyone have experience with buying a condo near the beach with the goal to rent it out to tourists, via a local and/or european agency? is this done alot? is there a big market for this? is it worth the hastle?

makes much more sense to buy something in thailand for $150K then back home, except for having to deal with dozens of tennants per year instead of one.

  6. a friend would like to get a tattoo in thai script. could anyone write out "mai pen rai" in thai script here in the forum?

to be able to write this out myself, would i have to get a keyboard with thai characters, or could i type out the letters by hitting the right western letters? id like to write it out myself in large font to take to tattoo parlor. are there many different thai fonts available?

    cheers!

  7. for what its worth - i got deported in 2003 for illegal exit of the country, after 7 days in the IDC and a court appearance. In 2004 I returned on a different passport from a different country (dual nationality) at the friendship bridge xing, with a visa obtained back home.

im now in indonesia flying into bkk in 2 days, again with a different passport but without a visa. im a bit nervous. will post the results here

    wish me luck

  8. you probably missed your chance of returning by skipping the court and fine. but you did a good job avoiding the immigration prison, its a hellhole. And you would have gotten deported over that amount, ive spoken to people who have done for less.

id also like to know if i am on png list, so if you find a way of finding out, let me know

    take it easy

    S

  9. i havent replaced the pport yet because here in EU it does not pose a problem

the stamp is all in thai script, and triangular, but there's nothing i can make out of it. maybe ill try scan it in sometime

my reaction would be to ask for the PNG list; I dont want someone in the embassy to overlook things and then get sent back home upon arrival

i dont want to seem fussy, but prison in combination with possibly not being allowed back in, is something i want to avoid at all costs. A guarantee is what im looking for, but i realise it will be hard to get one

    thanks for info

  10. so if i contact the thai embassy here in belgium, they will be able to access this shitlist and see if i am on it?

what i am scared of is that they tell me its all ok, but the immigration officer in bkk will have a different view of things.

when i was in IDC, i heard of some people being denied entry for x amount time, and other not being allowed ever again.

  11. Im looking for some one who knows quite a bit about thai immigration/deportation rules and laws. I was deported from Thailand in nov 2002, because i had a thai exit stamp missing from the Chiang Kong, Huay Xai border.

I now want to go back to SE Asia, but im not sure if i should avoid Thailand altogether. I spent a week in prison in bangkok cause of this, so im sure you understand my nervousnes. There would be at least 6 months between deportation and re entry date, if that matters.

I just want to know whats the procedure with blacklists, who i should speak to (embassy?) etc ... I dont want to get sent home again upon arrival in Bangkok, or from any of the malaysian, cambodian or lao borders.

Anyone who's got any info or experience, pls let me know

    thanks!

    Stef
