If your wife works for the government then it is my understanding that you are insured through her. I have a friend in Khon Kaen and his wife is a nurse and he gets free medical assistance

My wife is a retired school teacher.  As a gov't worker, I have been covered by her health plan coverage. I have had CT scans (as a AVR patient from surgery in USA), 90 day cardiology consults at NE Heart Center, unrelated emergency room visits, etc. and have never paid any out of pocket costs.  You have to register with you wife's government administrative agency and get in the system and be issued a number, and then register with the hospital(s) , get a pink card, and then you'll be good to go.

  2. Did you follow up on any of this? I am now interested in having a modular/pre-fab/knock down small house erected in Prachaup Khiri Khan district.

Google gave me several companies who do this kind of thing.

Some names are Dreammer, knockdownhome.com, Thailand knockdown home, modular-thailand.com, Diamond Knockdown home.  Most will deliver to the site and erect. If you are in a remote or distant place there may be a surcharge.

I had a different test. No bubble chart.

I had to put my chin on a depression that held my head steady and was told to look straight ahead. Next they did a test to determine my peripheral vision by turning on small lights on both the left and right side of my head and I had to say what the colors were.

I failed. Could see the lights but not their color. So they did everyone else and I had to repeat the test.

Knowing I would perform no better, cheating was called for and I moved my eyes to left and right very quickly to determine the color.

They spotted my cheating and laughed but passed me anyway.

The only test they were strict on was the emergency stop reaction. Anyone failing was sent home and told to practice honing their reflexes

This is the peripheral vision test.  I had a hard time with my eyeglasses. Couldn't tell the colors.  Removed them and passed. There are foru tests they give in Khon Kaen - color, peripheral, depth perception and reflex. On a bad day you might get picked to watch the crash video.

  4. Interesting watch NBC's Manifest. Sci-Fi premise centers on the passengers and crew of a airliner that went missing who suddenly reappear after being presumed dead for five years. The world they come back to is five years later but their only recollection is that the flight was "normal" (they didn't lose any time or age).

...   But I do know after my visit to Bangkok Bank today I know there are thousands receiving U.S. govt payments that will be in for a surprise come 1 Apr 19.

Bangkok Bank 1 Oct 18 Letter

    Bkk Bk 1Oct18 memo.pdf

I tried to get an answer from my smaller branch bank in Khon Kaen. She advised contacting someone at the main Khon Kaen Branch office to see if my SSA direct deposit is in the IAT format. If that doesn't work then I'll call Mrs. Petchai. Hopefully I am in the IAT format as I had to fill out the Direct Deposit form in Thailand.

If I am not in IAT format, then somehow I'll have to get SSA to revise the direct deposit details. Manila will probably be of no help for that so I'll investigate how to make a change in general.

Will Mrs. Petchai be able to tell me unequivocally whether the depost from SSA is IAT or PPD? Thanks

What do you mean by a B number. When I was at the hospital yesterday, all they required was the 13 digit number at the top of the card.

The B number is the evidence of coverage under my wife's medical. I received it from the Teacher's administrative office in KK. She is a retired teacher and covered under her prior employment. It is a "B" followed by 12 digits. The teacher's plan pick up the cost of my visits and any diagnostics I undergo. I am not sure what the official name of it is.

Can't see why registration is necessary, is it necessary for other types of worker to register their occupation?

There are hundreds of occupations in which one must be certified, licensed or registered. They range from attorneys, architects, engineers etc to welders, truck drivers, etc. to massage therapist to sex workers in countries where it is legal.

I got my Pink Card as well at the same office.  I need it for my Cardiologist checkup as the hospital now requires it for Government reimbursement.

The only issue, the PC does not have any information embedded. The hospital could not scan it and had to take whatever info needed manually. Only in Thailand.

Same for me.  I needed it because of the hospital coverage but the card has no embedded info and no B number (for coverage). But now I have a PC and somehow the hospital presses on (and I always still bring my passport).

  9. DTAC (which I use in Thailand) has a "roam like home" package for USA - 1 day, 280 baht or 3 day, 840 baht . Anyone here ever use this. Experiences/performance? I just need my data right after we arrive and for a day or two until I get a prepaid local plan. It appears one cannot buy local sim cards at the airport - LAX.  If anyone knows if you can buy a local SIM card at LAX, let me know. 11. My wife is a Thai but also holds a US Passport (as a naturalized citizen). Will she have to also file a FBAR form if her numerous bank accounts reach that $10,000 threshold (in the aggregate)?  I want to avoid any future potential problems when I pass from the scene and she will be making withdrawals from my IRAs and wanting to get my assets transferred to here accounts (as my beneficiary). She knows she will be paying US taxes on the distributed amounts.

  12. Does anyone have any recent experience with the following scenario:

My sister in law holds a current USA B2 Visa (good until 13 Aug 2024).  She used it once in 2014.

She got divorced and changed her name back to her birth family name.

She got a new passport with the new name.

She wants to travel back in US to visit some other friends.

    The State Department website

    ( https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/frequently-asked-questions/about-basics.html ) states:

"If your name has legally changed through marriage, divorce, or a court ordered name change, you will need to obtain a new passport.  Once you have a new passport, the Department of State recommends that you apply for a new U.S. visa to make it easier for you to travel to and from the United States."

A recommendation is not a directive. So has anyone recently used a new passport (with a changed name) and the visa (in old Passport) to enter the US with other documentation showing the name change (divorce certificate with official translation) or some other document (and what would that be?)

Any help or clarification will be appreciated. Thanks.

Long long climb to the top but stunning views. Well worth a visit.

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Song Teaws shuttle folks to the top for a price ... 25 baht (ticket valid all day). It's about a 2+ km hike ... not fun to walk. Seeing sunrise is great but the fog show lasts to about 9AM if you can't get up.

  14. In your time in Chiang Khan and Kaeng Khud Khu, you might want to go to Phu Tok for a sunrise over the rolling fog in the Mekong Valley. Only about 20 minutes from Chiang Khan. I realize this is similar to the rolling fog you'll experience at Phu Kradueng , but worth the view and several hours of your time.

Also it's fun to pick strawberries near Phu Rea. (Or anywhere along the roadside where you might see it.  You'll be passing many little patches and the naturally ripe strawberries are sooo sweet.)

Hidden insect screens are readily available. Just not at Homepro, HomeWorks, ThaiWatsadu, Global House or Home Mart. Standard off the shelf sizes are available from any home improvement store.

OK now I am in the market for retractable (or hidden) insect screens.  The windows are special fabricated and not off the shelf and are large sliding windows filling in from 280cmX180cm on the high side to 160cmX180cm on the smaller side. Where do I start looking? If they have to be fabricated so be it. Looking for some options in Khon Kaen (or Isaan). Thanks.

As you are khon kaen no they only require one if you move house. ...  There pretty good and relaxed here.

Absolutely relaxed ... I'll soon be moving into a new house next door and I'll change it then in October before my next report / extension in November. So the problems will hopefully resolve itself then.  I just wondered if anyone had ever had some problem with it there.

  17. I last re-entered Thailand on May 9. I had a valid re-entry permit.  When I re-entered I received a new TM-6 departure card. However, I never re-filed a new TM-30 (the only TM-30 I filed thus shows a departure card number which is now different).
    Should I have filed a new TM-30?
No one raised the issue at immigration (Khon Kaen) when I did my 90 day report on August 4.
Should I file a (n accurate) TM-30 now or wait until I do my next 90 day report (November 1), which incidentally will also be the same day I will apply/file my new visa retirement extension?
I of course have not changed my address since I was permanently settled here from when I first arrived under my O visa.  My address listed in the TM-30 is my wife's house and property.
