  1. For sale is a dark blue 1995 Honda Civic EX. The car in an automatic transmission and has 209,715 km. It has AC, power steering and radio/tape deck (I’ve never used the tape player and therefore can’t guarantee that it works but I assume it does). Exterior is in very good condition with a few very minor scratches to the paint. The interior is grey synthetic. The driver’s seat has a few places where the seat covering is breaking and the foam cushioning is showing through (see pictures). This could easily be covered up with a seat cover (I never bothered). Other than that the interior is in good shape. I’m the third owner of the car and the title is in my name. Please visit the link for some pictures.

  2. We have a 1995 Honda Civic to sell. We are leaving Thailand and don't need the car anymore. It's a good car, reliable and inexpensive to operate. We have taken good care of it. Asking 170,000 baht.

Please call 08-52746880. If you need a Thai speaker please ask for John.

  3. How do I calculate our tax liability? I make 24,000 baht a month between two universities, and my husband makes 25,000. They've been taking 1,000 a month from my husband's salary, but we got most of it back in our tax return. We have two kids.

Also, isn't it strange that they are reporting my tax liability, but I don't have a work permit?

  4. Good to hear she's feeling better.

Thai hospitals will rehydrate her if she gets bad again - I had two overnight stays my last pregnancy, 32 weeks of hyperemesis.

Acupuncture can help. as can the acupressure points mentioned by others. B6 vitamins. Benadryl can help as well.

Green mangoes and other sour foods.

Flat Coke to drink, Gatorade helped me stay hydrated.

It's no fun at all but the baby's totally worth it!

  5. We have been told (by various internet sources) that children under 7 don't need a visa . . . that is, your child could get a tourist visa on entry, and even if it expires there are no fees or other consequences. That said, when we applied for a non-immigrant O visa for our two-year-old, no one at immigration said not to bother. She's always had the same visa I do.

As the pp said, it's no problem as long as one parent holds a proper visa.

  6. I teach part-time at a university. I was informed today that they needed to take 10% of my salary out for taxes. My supervisor implied that this is a new regulation. At the school where I taught last year, and where my husband teaches, they took out 1,000 baht a month (out of a 25,000 baht monthly salary). And we got most of it back after filing a tax return.

So, my questions are: 1) Is this in fact the current tax law? 2) Is this only for university level teachers? Only part-time teachers? Only part-time farang teachers at universities? Anybody know?

    Thanks!

  7. I had my second baby a few months ago at Srinakarin (can't spell it) in Khon Kaen. I had an awesome doctor for prenatal care, but unfortunately he wasn't able to make the delivery. The on-call doctor was good though, and my labor nurse spoke some English. They let my husband come in the delivery room, which was nice since he speaks Thai (he's farang though). I only stayed one night because I was eager to get home to my older child, and I felt great, but it was a little over 4,000B total. We had to go back and stay two more nights to have the baby treated for jaundice, and that was another 4,000B or so (for two nights in a private room). The nurses were fantastic, very supportive and helpful with breastfeeding and trying to speak English.

I think the key is deciding what kind of birth you want (natural, medical, planned C-section) and finding the right doctor for you. I wanted a natural birth and I got it, but I had to find the right doctor and hospital for it.

    Good luck to you!

  8. Hi all,

I recently moved to Khon Kaen and am looking for some ingredients. I'd like to find parmesan cheese and vanilla flavoring, if possible. I haven't checked the big Tesco yet but I've checked the other stores in town with no luck. Any ideas? If not in Khon Kaen, how about Udonthani or Khorat? Any specific stores in these towns I should check? How about in Bangkok? I'd appreciate any help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kris
