John Holland-Kaye told the BBC yesterday: "Social distancing does not work in any form of public transport, let alone aviation".
He not Thai, he not unnerstan Thairan.

Apparently not in the case of Thai Airways.

I don't know if SCB was one of the banks restricting entry to foreigners, but will all their reopened branches be open to all?
It was one apparently, and that shouldn't be forgotten.
One of my friends banks with them in Bangkok and was refused entry into the branch on the basis that he was a white foreigner.
For me, regardless of the circumstances, that would be enough for me to cease dealing with that entity for good.

You should use this time to educate yourself. Google Knowledge, The Economist, Bloomberg, CNBC, FT, Wall Street Journal, and many many more sources of information are readily available.
Learn how the foreign exchange markets and dealers work; how nations' wealth, economies, credit rating, investment attractiveness are judged.
Learn what "currency manipulation" is, how it's identified and what the repercussions are.
Then you'll have a chance to understand.
Did you do your research before supporting the coup?

I think Khun Prayut Chan O Cha has handled the COVID-19 pandemic with the utmost professionalism and addressed the transmission and infection concerns amicably.
Sadly, some farang think it's fine to do nothing and leave everything open .....
At least he has learned to wear a mask properly in the last four weeks.

Used to be a well deserved reputation but it is now the best and cleanest beer in Thailand. I remember when it was horrible and inconsistent leading to the dreaded 'Changover' but they cut out most of the chemicals and refined the brewing process long ago to keep the alcohol levels consistent.
In comparison, Boonrawd allegedly import chemicals from NZ and use way more artificial preservatives in Singha and Leo.
This info is from someone that is intimately involved with the two companies, and not some bar-stool gossip.
Personally I switched to Chang several years ago and never looked back. I used to be an ardent Leo and Singha drinker but when I switched over I stopped getting headaches if I had a bad hangover so stuck with the Chang. It also has a crisper, fuller flavour IMO.

Before anything happens the entire board need to go.
Good article here with quotes from Chamsri Sukchotrat, the former president of the Thai Airways Union.

I'm surprised she has caught up with the news already; it normally takes Thailand at least 50 years to realise they are a bit behind !

The only humane option.
It's dying a slow death and will never recover. Time to put it out of its misery.
However as we all know it will not be allowed to die. Vested interests, loss of face and another reason we cannot discuss on here to name but three.
Normal taxpaying Thais will foot the bill to subsidise lavish trips overseas for the certain few.
Thai airways is a microcosm of what is actually wrong with the country.
It is decisions and resultant mistakes like this that bring down governments in places where there is at least some accountability.
Convenient that Thailand only has the veneer of sham democracy and the Generals are in full control.
I am of the opinion that a Thaksin administration would be more likely to achieve a favourable solution here. Generals and their mafia lackeys will not be able to deal with the harsh economic realities.

Because it is similar to how a criminal organisation operates, and qualifications, intellect or ability have absolutely nothing to do with it.

How are they eligible for a loan?
The law states that any State owned enterprise that posts a loss for three consecutive years is not eligible for a loan!
And...
Where is the rehabilitation plan to make this business viable? Where are the cuts to be made? How will it turn a profit when up and running again? How is the existing B200billion+ debt to be paid off? How is this additional loan to be paid off?
And...
Doesn't it feel immoral and unethical to pump taxpayers' money into this when there are millions being denied money for basic essentials like food?

It's important to point out, that while 50k doesn't sound like much, he is likely receiving similar amounts from many other companies.

Protection money and payments to influential patrons and the Police continue as normal in these unprecedented times.
Just made our payments for this month as normal.

There isn't a foreigner alive that would take the position.
In the past foreigners were appointed for such things as the government subsidised sugar mills. He found high levels of corruption and then he 'disappeared.' Read into that how you want. ????
Can you imagine a foreigner weighing in and bringing all that <deleted> to the surface in this mahousive enterprise going into billions and billions of baht.
Never gonna happen! ????
I remember this well. Michael Wansley was the guy's name. Australian corporate insolvency expert gunned down by assassins allegedly hired by the Thakhli Sugar Mill owners after Michael discovered theft of $150m from loans given to the Kaset Thai Sugar Company.
Memorable quote: "It's very good the farang is dead, now we can live comfortably".

6 hours ago, Denim said:Sadly , this description fits all politicians of all parties and is not unique to Thailand or just Asia.. Even Future Forward attracted its fair share of carpet baggers and dishonest members as various news articles testify. The yellowshirt leader Sondhi Limongkul acknowledged that the Thai civil service is riddled with corrupt officials who will ' do their thing ' regardless of who is at the helm. Overcoming political corruption is like trying to fill a coarse sieve with very fine sand , an endless endeavor.
However , the democratic process , no matter how flawed , will always be better than an oligarchy because there is greater transparency , accountability and a chance to change things at the ballot box. Supporting a coup , merely because your own horse can't win , or you despise the winner , can never be justified.
The result of overthrowing a flawed democratic government in favor of an unaccountable sham military government is now plain to see even for people who previously believed that any change at all could only be for the better. This point of view has manifestly been proved wrong.
Excellent post.
Coup supporters here should take note.

Maybe it is that PR firm hired to praise the Thai Govt. COVID response efforts?
Who did hire them again? It still hasn't been confirmed as far as I am aware...

Unfortunately those that benefit from this boondoggle are the ones running the show at the moment and are totally unaccountable to anyone except themselves.
Prayut has, in principle approved a 50 billion Baht bailout, in his role as chairman of the State Enterprise Policy Committee (SEPC).
The regression of Thailand back to it's primordial form has been quite remarkable to observe over the last five or six years.
