You should be able to submit the tourist visa application to the embassy without the SHA or ASQ reserved.

It is really only needed for the certificate of entry and the sandbox is not on the website for them yet since as far as I know it still has not been formally approved yet.

Thank you good sir, was confused since the eVisa system didn't mention about it(while the after 14 day accomodation, flight itinerary were required).

  2. Hi there,

Not sure if anyone has experience with this. American here planning to do the Phuket Sandbox in mid july. I just applied for the TR visa on the e-visa system. I uploaded the necessary documents(flight, medical insurance, booking after 14 days) etc. Figured to book the SHA+ hotel once the Sandbox is officially confirmed in the Royal Gazette. Am about to send the physical documents and passport to the Washington DC Thai embassy BUT I notice one required document that catches me off guard:

"2.5 A confirmed reservation of 15 nights of Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) "

But then i look at another U.S. Thai Embassy and they don't seem to require that reservation. Wasn't the ASQ reservation just for the Certificate of Entry and not for applying for the TR?

Being under 50 you cannot apply for the Non O.

It is only available to those over 50 based on retirement, or those married or having Thai family.

A TV will grant you 60 days on entry, which you can extend for 30 days = 90 days.

Beyond that you'd have to leave and re-enter to stay longer, or apply for a 60 day Covid extension.

Some who entered VE or TV over 12 months ago are still here using the Covid 60 day extensions.

At some point in time this situation will change, but when is the million dollar question.

The STV will grant you a stay of 90 days on entry and provide you entered before the end of June, you'll be able to extend that for another 90 days = 180 days, until the end of December, then 60 day Covid extensions for as long as they are available.

For what it's worth, you could enter VE, grants a stay of 45 days, extend for 30 = 75 days, then 60 day Covid extensions.  There are Pros and Cons for each.

My bad, i meant to say the ED Visa(confused it with the non immigrantion O visa). That person you mentioned, he's really had atleast 3 covid extensions and immigration hasn't said anything? Def leaning toward the TR and VE at this point due to how restrictive the STV actually is

    Visa conditions vary by Country.

A visitor Visa for the UK is valid for 6 months, during which time you can enter, but it is also the time you are permitted to stay, so entering 3 month after the Visa was issued only allows you a stay of 3 months.

In Thailand's case the validity of the Visa and the validity of your permission of stay are different.

The validity of the Visa being the first and last dates you can enter.

The permission of stay is granted by Immigration on entry, dependant on the method of entry.

Visa exempt > 30 day entry (currently 45 due to Covid and quarantine periods).

Tourist Visa valid 90 days > 60 days on entry.

Non O Visa valid 90 days > 90 days on entry

Non O-A Visa valid 1 year > 365 days on entry.

Certain Visa types can also have multiple entries.

Very good info! So much easier to understand now. Also am starting to look at the Non O visa

They haven't even started rolling out the vaccines to the general populous yet.

Last I heard the plan was to start June and hopefully 50% vaccinated by the end of the year.

Can't see borders reopening anytime this year.

Covid extensions for 60 days at a time. which in my opinion will continue until borders reopen.

Extensions for STV will cease end of September.

TV will grant you a stay of 60 days on entry.

VE will currently grant a stay of 45 days on entry.

Both can be extended by 30 days > 60 day Covid extensions.

Seems like their progress will take a bit longer than many western countries(especially US). Doesn't suprise me in that case of the 60 day extensions.

The period of visa validity is different from the period of stay.

Visa validity is the period during which a visa can be used to enter Thailand. In general, the validity of a visa is 3 months, but in some cases, visas may be issued to be valid for 6 months, 1 year, or more. The validity of a visa is granted with discretion by the Royal Thai Embassy or Royal Thai Consulate-General and is displayed on the visa sticker.

The period of stay is granted by an immigration officer upon arrival at the port of entry and in accordance with the type of visa. For example, the period of stay for a transit visa is not exceeding 30 days, for a tourist visa is not exceeding 60 days and for a non-immigrant visa is not exceeding 90 or 365 days from the arrival date. The period of stay granted by the immigration officer is displayed on the arrival stamp. Travellers who wish to stay longer than such period may apply for an extensions of stay at offices of the Immigration Bureau located in the provinces.

I was very confused thinking the visa expiration date was a "departure" from Thailand date regardless of when you arrive but i understand now that its the date of validity of when u enter and length of stay. In that case, for a TR visa...the date they would need to get the first extension(first example) would be by 60 days after first arrival?

Thanks!! The members on this forum have been super helpful. ????

    Where did you read/hear that.

Only a guess but don't think they will stop until borders open.

Just an assumption on my part due to the vacc most likely arriving not too long from now.

The order for them will probably be extended again from the end of May for another 2 months.

Thanks for the info, covid extension info is relatively new to me

Enter visa exempt then obtain 30 day extension followed by 60 day covid extensions.

Aren't 60 day COVID extensions going to be ending in like a month or so?

Getting an extension, you are eligible for is not an issue (e.g. the 30 day extension to the 45 day visa exempt). Changing to a somewhat "dodgy" type of visa doesn't appear to be that much of an issue either (at this time).

Oh ok, as long as its not all that big of deal....def another option for sure

555 We've had this conversation before I think ... depending on how risk averse you are, you could enter visa exempt (saves the hassle on a lot of paperwork) and go for a visa in-country (volunteer visa seems to be flavour of the month at around 35-45K).

Oh yeah! I thought your avatar looked familiar haha. Going for visa in country does seem quite risky lol

The is what a announcement done by immigration states.

    image.png.cb23dd8f86de8d837fbbd083ac47b818.png

Figured as much, with that being the "final" extension.

  9. 2 minutes ago, ubonjoe said:

    No

The is valid for 3 months after the day is it issued at a embassy or consulate. You can use the visa to enter the country up to the day it expires and get the 90 day entry it allows.

That clears things up for me. Thanks!

You won't get that with the STV, depending on when you fly you might get 6 months but no way to get 9 from it (if you arrive after 3 July you'll only get 3 months).

I see now...That's what i suspected due to the September 30th date, was def aiming to fly before July 3rd. Much obliged!

Why are you looking at an STV? It's about to finish, easier options but depends on how long you intend to stay and where you come from.

4 weeks before is not an issue.

That's a big relief about the 4 weeks deal. Thought if applying for it too early would cut down on the length of time the visa is active.

I figured to do the STV as i'm in my 30s and my intention was to stay between 6 to 9 months. I saw the Tourist Visa but even with the initial 60 days and extensions...wouldn't it really only last 90-120 days at most with the c0vid extensions?

A SYV is valid to use for entry to the for 3 months from the date it is issued to get a 90 day permit to stay.

Ohhh...it starts the date you enter thailand?

Sorry, just tracked down another infographic (pretty sure it's not the one I was thinking of). It does read like you'll only fit in the one extension. Pretty <deleted> IMO.

Oh yea!, i think thats the original infographic i originally saw to where the last bullet point mentioning before September 30th is a bit confusing.

Can't remember the wording on an infographic I saw recently talking about them only being valid until September. I "think" September is when they are being withdrawn, call me naive, but I believe they will give you what you bought. Bit dodgy if they are still selling them with no intention of honouring the conditions people are buying them under.

Oh ok! That would make more sense that its only the "withdrawal" date.

  13. Hi everyone, looking through the requirements of the STV, i noticed that the STV hotel accommodation requirement was:

Proof of accommodation after the 14-day quarantine, which could be any of the following:

    •        Proof of payment for hotel or accommodation to be used after discharge from quarantine.
    •        Copy of a condominium title deed owned by the visitor or a family member.
    •        Evidence of renting accommodation – condominium or house.
    •        Evidence of payment for the purchase or lease of a condominium-type residence that foreigners can legally buy or lease.

But one thing that puzzles me is....was this restricted to only one "hotel" for 75 days or could it be multiple hotel accommodations as long as they add up to the remaining 75 days?

I just arrived in my 5 th METV ( one each fall) the letter I include could not be simpler. “ This is to verify ( I used to say certify but changed the word this year ) that James Doe is a full time employee at ( company name ) for 15 years.
I add on a signature for a boss and my signature and staple a business card. No one has ever contacted my boss or me and never will. They just want a stupid piece of paper and give you a visa. There are just too many nervous nellies, scare mongers and people who over do things on this forum. Really keep in simple. I applied for my first one in Boston and the last four were mailed to NYC. I also want to add I have never used a letter head with company name etc ever.

Thats relieving to hear, i guess many of us are worried because we don't want to get denied lol.
