  1. Coming from Europe last winter, my flight came in late, thus missing all Thai air flights from Suvarnabhumi to Khon Kaen. I stumbled upon a daily bus service from said airport directely to Khon Kaen. Price only 202 baht! Cant beat that for a good deal! These are the hours; 14.30,15.30,19.30, 21.00,22.30 and this is the company; http://www.transport.co.th/Eng

    Final stop downtown Khon Kaen

    Travelling time 6.30 hours

Hope that is of help to Isaan lovers!

As I know, there is no flight from Suvannabhumi to Khon Kaen. Need to go DonMoung(old airport),46 km from Suvannabhumi.

I cann't open the link above but I can see the info. in Thai language. The time table mention Suvannabhumi to NongKai(they will drop you in Khon Kaen) only one trip a day, at 21.00

    hmmmmmm.....

I stand twice corrected! I think you are right; there is only one bus; 21.00 daily (that is the bus I took). Also the flights to KK are from Don M, not Suvannabhumi. Hope I didnt cause any problems.

Thanks for the info mate. Is that from the airport transit station about a kilometre from the terminal?

    Khun Andy

As I remember it, the station is inside/next to the airport. I just walked it/took elevator. No taxi involved.

  3. Wow thats pretty good, I am assuming they will stop at major towns on route?

I cant say if stopping in other towns is on their scedule. They will certainly stop and let you get off anytime. That seems to be a norm in Thai buses

  5. Back in my country, if I dont use a car, I can take the numberplates off of it and hand them in (to the car registration office). Thus saving on insurance and road tax. I would however need to insure it for fire and theft. How does one do something like this with a Thai car?

When buying a car on finance, the financing company will automatically demand first class insurance. Would this still be the cas said car was (temporarily) unregistered?

What say you; farang and other besserwissers!

    :o

  6. Hi, can anybody help? My Thai wife and I are coming to Krabi from Bkk on the 19.th. of january. Want to stay for a short week. Not decided how long. Near beach preferable. Scuba diving is one activity looked for. I am looking for something around the 1500 baht mark. Will stay longer if cheaper :-)

We dont smoke or drink. Will leave the place cleaner than when we came! :-)

    Any suggestions?

  7. My maths is simple: If i can make reliable >1500 Euro (after Tax/Health insurance) from my internet business then i go back to germany, if i cant make this money i will stay here. Thailand is nice but if you are in the low income level.

Huh?!.....You stay here if you dont have money but go to Germany if you do? The wonders of the internet never cease to amaze.

  8. I have noticed a few forms of money lending in the Thai community in Farangland and also in Thailand. There seems to be a very structured and organized way of going about lending and borrowing money outside the bank system. I have heard of interest rates from 10 % a month up to 1% a day (and the interest is paid daily).

Are there any posts on this matter? Can somebody tell me how it works?

  9. From BKK (Suvarnabhumi Airport) to the Northeast Bus Terminal ( 999 Khumphaengphet 2 Road, Jatujak, Jatujak Bangkok 10900 ) is ~ 35 kM, best way is by taxi, without traffic ~ 45 minutes and cost is 300 baht exclusive of tolls. It's all toll-/expressway so normally fast; I've done the reverse in 30 minutes by taxi. Assuming you're arriving on an international flight, so having to clear Immigration and reclaim bags, I'd say your proposed connection is not feasible. There should be other buses to Khon Khaen. The schedule I have (potentially out of date) shows a bus at 14:30, 15:30, 17:30, 19:30.

Taking a bus/taxi, BTS/MRT/taxi with luggage is a pretty preposterous suggestion.

Current bus schedules (in Thai): http://www.transport.co.th/default.htm

Flat rate for a taxi from BKK to Khon Khaen would be on the order of 3,500 baht per the printed card in metered taxis. You might be able to negotiate more favorable rate.

I see things clearly now. It will be the best way for 2 people to take a taxi negotiated down to say 2.500-3000 baht. Saving a lot of time and hassle and getting all the way from door to door.

    Thank you for your help.

  10. I land at the airport 12.30 and the last afternoon bus leaves the Kamphaeng Phet Road bus station at 14.00 for my Khon Kaen destination. Not much time unless they are right next to each other. Doable? Any other suggestions?

Someone suggested a taxi would work out at 2500 baht which is not a bad deal, seeing as we are 2 travelling together.

    All input gladly accepted.

  11. If you could afford the air fare from BKK to KK then a taxi at, say 2.5K, would not kill you. Dual carriageway all the way, piece of cake in 4 hours. BTW wouldn't KK flights originate from Don Muang rather than Thaksin's Folly?

This sounds really good dude! Are you shooting in the dark or do you know the taxifare to be 2500? I am bringing my son so with the 2 of us it is cheaper to take taxi and we see a lot of the country rather than sit in airport. And save some time too. Taxi for 2500 is the way to go. :-)

  12. I will be visiting my gf and her son of 8 in July, bringing my none english speaking 8 yr old son with me. He will be bored while his Thai brother is in school every day. Hence I thougt I would try to find some program for him to learn either Thai or English. Any knowledge of such? Or any other suggestions for my predicament?

  13. Thank you guys. Getting there. I am not thinking of what I can get away with but more so being totally legal in case of accident. I am very well insured, but do recon the insurance will not cough up if I am driving illegally.

As I understand it I need to show some kind of residency paperwork. That not being possible I will opt for the taking the test in my own language.

  14. I am thinking of buying a bike, seems to me the 400 cc format will suit my pocket and needs. Dont have licence. Where is best to sit test? Is it difficult here in Thailand?

Another related question. The 400 cc bikes seem so much cheaper than the bigger bikes. Do they have lower taxes or something?

  15. Hi Guys,

What is the best way to send money to a person in Thailand? Western Union cost to much. I am not in a hurry, could use regular mail. Just wondering what the best way is. I do not send money very often, but when I do I hate to give so much to Western Union. Must be a better way.

    Thanks

    Jim

The easiest and cheapest way to my mind is make an account in your own country (in your name) and give the card / pin to the Thai person. It costs nothing for you to put into your own account and neigh on nothing for taking money out on the Atm. I had an old account I didnt use, just asked for a new debit card and pin and Bobs y´r uncle.

  16. fair call, I think, but it doesn't encapsulate all the reasons

A Farang most likeley will be more a man of the world and better educated. That might be a big issue. I´d sure like to see some more bona fide reasons. Get those keyboards rattling guys! :o

  17. Immerse yourself in Isaan and you'll find her! There are literally thousands of good Isaan women that dream of having a good Farang BF/husband. Many of them really don't want to marry Thai guys for various reasons.

This is my opinion also, ......about the various reasons. It is something I have imagined as being the truth, without having heard it said first hand.

    My list;

    1. Woman has duties toward her family and must have a good provider (which most Thai men are not)

    2. Thai guys tend to play around and have many gf (that they all tell; "I love only you")

    3. Thai guys tend to be less respectful towards woman than Farang (oftentimes)

    4. A Thai guy will choose a single lady with no children and no "past life", but not contemplate the single mother that have been around the block as they are not as prestigious a catch. Farang tend to care less about that aspect but think more of the "now" and the "future" not of the past. A kid more or less is not a financial issue for a Farang.

    Am I anywhere close?

    What are your known reasons?

  18. The two fingered peace sign is universal, but the same sign with the back of your hand turned toward the other person means "up yours" in the UK. Churchill used it famously as the V for victory. But it seems to be purely negative in the UK now. Americans are quite oblivious to this, hence the asking the barman for 2 up yours.
