  1. Just came to Thailand a few days ago, similar situation, flew in together with my wife.

I just want to confirm, indeed you need to choose 'Non-O Stay with Thai Family (more than 60 days)".

My embassy (not UK) later (after the initial application) requested proof of return / onward flight, which was then again requested by the airline before embarking on the flight, so I'd strongly recommend you use a reservation such as onwardticket so you can show it in case it's needed. I had something similar.

How the process works is a bit different with each embassy as I understand it, mine took almost 2 months to process my visa, but I've read the UK one is quite fast.

    Quote

That's what I did before but technically my Wife is coming with me from the UK and we will be residing in our house so didn't quite seem to fit the bill.

The embassy also (additionally) asked me for a letter of invitation and proof of ownership. Quote: "Please upload to your account: Letter of invitation + Inviting person's house proof of ownership + the Thai ID card."

In my case I had the 400k in the Thai account for more than 2 months when I applied so I'm not sure whether that'll be an issue or not.

  2. I am a EU (eastern europe) citizen. I get paid regularly every month by an Australian company.

I am considering starting to receive this salary directly in my Thai bank account and bypass my home country.

Should I worry about the Thai government asking me for income tax? Theory and practice may be different - has anyone had issues in practice with a similar situation?

It would be a decent sum, about 400K baht per month if that's relevant.

I live here with my Thai wife, non-O visa, >180 days in a year although I am moving back to my country in January - so I suppose I won't even be a tax resident then ...

Is this a good way to "optimize" my tax situation?

Apply at the immigration office where you and your wife reside and have a fixed abode and proof of address such as a rental agreement.

    Would that be Nonthaburi?

Can you get an embassy letter?

Seems very late to get some letter at this point.

yes Nonthaburi, and I can show the relevant documents. Might be worth a try tomorrow I guess

Where your wife is registered is not the point, as already pointed out you apply at the Immigration office covering the area you live. Some proof that you do actually live at the address you claim may be needed.

As you stated you do not live in Pathum Thani refusing the extension was doing their job correctly.

    Would that work??
they wrote Pathum Thani above my visa
It would be easy to prove I live at the Nonthaburi address. Is that relevant for this issue?

Just out of interest, was your wife with you at the time?

I think that's harsh. You previously were using ME marriage obtained outside of Thailand. With border bounces you may not had reason to deal with immigration.

Your description of where you live and your reply "We live in Nonthanburi, but I don't know officially......"

I deal with CW immigration, Bangkok (for example) and that means any immigration business needs to be done at that office.

I guess it is what it is.

    I'm looking for solutions

  6. Thanks for the reply ubonjoe.

We live in Nonthaburi, but I don't know, officially, technically I suppose I live with my wife in Pathum Thani since that's where her tabien baan places her? I have no idea.

I entered in Suvarnabhumi, entirely possible I lost the original card and I found another one, might be my fault..

The application clearly said 60 days on the front page.....not sure how to proceed. I go back to Pathum Thani immigration and try to teach them about their job? not sure how successful that will be.

  7. I went today to Chaeng Wattana for a 60 day marriage extension for my multi-entry marriage visa that expires in November this year.

After 6 hours of waiting in queues and 2 separate officers checking all my papers and clearing me, during the final moments of getting the visa, apparently they won't give it to me because my wife's tabien baan is in Pathum Thani.

I immediately went to Pathum Thani immigration, where they commented that my arrival card doesn't have a stamp, that i need an embassy letter, photos with wife, bank. Looked like they had no idea about the extension, treated me as if I was asking for a 1yr extension.

    What are my options?

Try other immigrations, Nonthaburi? Muang Thong Thani? feels like lottery, with different requirements luck and people every time.

Can I go to another place such as Singapore and return after 1 day ? will that work ? (since the visa expires in NOV)

Very upsetting day. Advice would be helpful.

  8. Hi,

I have a marriage-based multiple entry visa that expires on 6 November, but the permission to stay has expired long ago.

I don't have 400k in Thai bank, so my best option is to get a 2-months extension?

I've been reading around here, but just to confirm I understood correctly:

    I first apply here

    http://203.151.166.132/immigrant_queue/booking/

and go to the temporary office in Muang Thong Thani?

    Thank you

Over the years I've entered many times on a Multi Non O - last was 4 March. Never once have I been asked to 'get on my wife's tabien baan'. As far as I know this is not in the rules and in any case, you cannot be recorded on your wife's tabien baan.

Either the I.O. was wrong or you misunderstood.

Thanks, that's good news, means I don't need to do anything else.

We have seen what has happened to tourist-visa victims in Bangkok airports - denied entry based on lies, to spite following the laws on the books to the letter.  It should be no surprise if they begin treating those of us on Non-O-ME Visas similarly to the hated "too frequent-visitor" tourists, whom they fear might also "put down roots" here (like us).

For precisely this reason, I carry signed copies of wife's house-book, our wedding certificate, and an original Kor-Ror-2 on all trips, and even when traveling within Bangkok.  I also carry the last receipts of payment for any extension or visa currently active.  Beginning last May, when I started working here, I began carrying my work-permit, as well - which quickly shuts down the "what are you doing here" line of questioning.

This documentation is helpful to end interrogations with both corrupt immigration officers, and cash-payoff-fishing regular police during "random stops" (while walking and "checkpoints").  The lowest-hanging fruit is targeted, so the goal is to make oneself "more trouble than it's worth" to the bully - so they will pick on someone else.  It is a version of the same technique used with pickpockets, burglars, border-zone touts, etc - don't be the easy-target, and they won't bother you (as much).

Honestly, I usually don't believe in this stuff, but I do think that's along the lines of what was happening. He had a hostile demeanor, questioning me (what do you do here, etc) and then maybe he was testing the waters with my wife to see if he could get something. Probably a good idea to take all documents with me whenever going on a trip, thanks.

Is it possible that you misunderstood the immigration official? If anything, he might have asked for a copy of the house registration book in which your wife is listed.

My wife talked with him in Thai but I suppose anything is possible. Maybe she misunderstood. He held me a long time, 5-10 min so it was a bit odd

With "immigration control" you mean when you entered the country?

Yes, re-entering the country after the first 90 days of the visa

They will probably extend the automatic visa extension, this would mean you have to do nothing: https://immigration.go.th/content/visa_auto_extension

Who told you this? If you are on your wife's tabien baan (no need to start a discussion about difference between blue and yellow book, this would take this thread offtopic) or not, is irrelevant.

Immigration officer told us that at immigration control. I don’t know if he was right, wrong, looking for a bribe etc. That’s what he told us

  12. Hi,

I have a multiple entry non O visa based on marriage that’s valid until November

I was supposed to go outside the country every 90 days which is up soon (admitted until may 6). What is the situation right now with COVID and what should I do?

Also last time I got in they said that I need to get on the wife’s tabien baan. But I still haven’t done it. Is that a big issue?

Thank you so much for your help,

You could apply for a 60 day extension of stay to visit you wife at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Then after that if you want to stay longer you could go a out for a single or multiple entry non-o visa.

A multiple entry non-o via allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date it is issued.

I had a 15 day Visa on arrival. I had this extended for 7 days more at ChaengWattana (I was there anyway to get my affirmation to marry legalized)

You wrote " we can both make some decent money, Just need to save a little ".  Can does not mean that you are making decent money.  My advice is to go back home and get a job and earn some money.   And if you are planning to live in Thailand, just how do you plan on making this decent money?

I work as a web developer, already have a few freelance projects going, should have $3-4k coming in this month. The financial part is fine.

If you want to go to Vientiane:

    • You need an appointment, which you get using their appointment system.
    • They might want to see financial proof, not sure.
    • You cannot get a multiple entry Non O visa in Vientiane. Looking at your later posts, it seems as though this might be worth doing. The multiple entry Non O (unlimited 90-day entries for one year) costs 5,000 baht in Savannakhet.

To get to Savannakhet, look at fly-ride services on Nok Air and Air Asia to Mukdahan just across the border from Savannakhet.

Whether you apply in Vientiane or Savannakhet, you must apply in the morning of one day, receiving your passport back with visa in the afternoon of the following day.

Many thanks, so informative ????. Looks like I'm going to Savannakhet
