  1. Looking for cheap accommodation for my family and 2 dogs close to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Only want to stay one night before i ship my dogs back to England, so want some thing with no frills and as cheap as possible. Been looking on Thai visa and see a lot of people are looking for places to stay with their pets. If any one wants details of a cheap place they can stay in Pattaya with their pets please PM me, (450 baht a night plus 100 baht a week for each animal). Have no phone number but can give you directions, never had to make a reservation.

  2. I am looking to get the Giant size too...but Shamu Shamu are asking about 14,000 for it..

9,500 sounds like a good deal comparably... Is that from a chain of pet shops ? I would like one at that price!

    Thanks Lesh and Neinke.

    Hi Lesh,

ref your: '...purchased two large Vari Kennels, Ultra Fashion models made in the USA by Petmate for 6299 baht each'.

What size did you buy please?

Petmate sizes from their site: http://www.dog.com/item/petmate-vari-kenne...et-crate-giant/

    Sizes (outer dimensions):

    Model 100- Small (21"L x 16"W x 15"H)

    Model 200-Medium (27"L x 20"W x 19"H)

    Model 300- Intermediate (32"L x 22"W x 23"H)

    Model 400- Large (36"L x 24"W x 26"H)

    Model 500- X-Large (40"L x 27"W x 30"H)

    Model 700- Giant (48"L x 32"W x 35"H) (122x 813x 88.9cm)

I have large Rottweilers. Here in CMai I looked at the largest No.7, the minimum for a Rott. This IATA-approved Italian air-kennel costs ~9,500B here (possible 10% discount).

    Clipper site www.marchioro.it

    Clipper 7: 41" or 105cm L 30" or 75cm W 31" or 79cm H 9500B

If your size is the Petmate Model 700; then at the price B6299 you paid, I stand to save a lot as I have to buy several. Cheers. :o

    Hi

The magazine i got from Shamu Shamu lists the price of the Vari Kennel Giant as 14599b, you can get the price down to 12999b by joining there members scheme for 199b. Again if you live in the Bangkok area try going to Jatujak or Tor Kor market and look for the kennels made in China, much cheaper.

  3. Thanks Lesh and Neinke.

    Hi

The dimensions 41"L 30"W 31"H of the Clipper 7 you mention are closer to the Vari Kennel Fashion XL 40"L 27"W 30"H which Shamu Shamu sell for 8799b, 7899b if you join there members scheme for 199b. The next size up which is larger than the clipper 7 is the Vari Kennel Giant 48"L 32"W 35"H which sells for 14599b or 12999b if you join the members scheme. I'm sure if you traveled to one of the markets in Bangkok you could get the same sized kennel made in China but still approved for airline use for a lot less money than both the Vari Kennel or the Clipper Kennel. I only bought from Shamu Shamu as i needed the carriers delivered to Udon Thani which cost me a extra 200b. If you have to visit Bangkok at all in the future i'm sure you would make a great saving by buying the kennels made in China especially as like you say you need to buy a few. The model i bought was the Vari Kennel Fashion Large 36"L 24.5"W 26"H.

    Hope this helps.

  4. In Bkk at The Pet Place they sells these airline approved crates. They can send it to you.

    Tel.: 02 888 1535 or 02 884 8440

Very helpful Nienke, first number does not exist and the second number belongs to a jewellery shop, not a good place to buy Airline Approved Dog carriers. Anyway for anyone interested i rang the number, 02 212 9172 from the post Kennel which belongs to the Shamu Shamu Co Ltd in Bangkok. Very helpful staff who speak perfect English. I joined there members scheme for 199 baht and purchased two large Vari Kennels, Ultra Fashion models made in the USA by Petmate for 6299 baht each. Petmate is a internationally trusted name and the carriers are 100% IATA approved. For any one wishing to buy pet supplies i highly recommend this company, they also ship any where in Thailand at reasonable prices. Again there number is 02 212 9172, the lady i dealt with was Faye Chueng, you can email her at [email protected]

  5. Does anyone know where i can get hold of two Dog carriers/kennels that would be approved for airline use. I have already read the other topic Dog Kennel and will be ringing the number listed to talk with them first thing Monday. If any body else has any ideas please let me know and if any one has any of these for sale please PM me. I have been informed by the company i am using to ship my dogs i will need type 400 series carries or ones that measure L92, W61, H66. I also need the carries shipping to Udon Thani.

  6. Looking for some advice for some trouble I have with my truck. The truck in question is a 2005 Isuzu Dmax High Lander 3.0 diesel that was an ex demonstrator bought from Isuzu’s main dealer in Nong Bua Lamphu. The truck was 7 months old when I bought it and had 17000klm on the clock with 29 months warranty left to run on it ; it has now covered 75,000 miles and has had many problems including this one over the period of covering this mileage. Other problems include a broken tooth on a cog inside the gear box, faulty clutch, faulty starter motor, faulty battery, faulty electric window motor, another fault with the gear box, and this time with a part that connects to the out side of the gearbox. The problem I’m experiencing with the truck at present luckily happened just before the warranty was about to expire and that problem is that the engine has a habit of turning its self over on its own while all the door are locked, with no key in the ignition. It has been doing this know for over three months every 400-500 klm’s and is currently in the Isuzu main dealer workshop for the fifth time. So far it has had 4 new starter motors, 2 lots of new cable that connect the starter to the battery, new relays and a new ignition switch. Isuzu have also had a so called electrical technician expert from Bangkok to visit the main dealer in Udon Thani where my truck is, to take a look at the problem and remap the ECU. Apparently he will be returning again next week to have another look. All this work has been carried out and paid for by Isuzu, the truck has also been serviced regularly every 5000klms at the main dealer. So far from this same problem I have bills for the work from Isuzu for over 30,000 baht. It has also cost me over 50,000 baht in car hire for the periods the truck has been in the dealer’s workshop, now over 8 weeks in total. These figures do not include what it is going to cost Isuzu and me for this current period that it will be in the workshop for repairs. I have tried to get a courtesy car from Isuzu while all this work has been going on and have also asked for some compensation for the money I have had to spend on hiring cars but have had no luck. The first time this problem occurred I was asleep in my house with my girlfriend, my newly born son, my girlfriend’s two children from her previous husband and her mother. I had left the truck parked in my garden, in gear as I usually do and because of the truck being in gear at the time, the truck had rammed in to the gate at the front of my house causing it to bend the gate and the front bumper of my truck. Luckily I woke up by the noise the truck made when it hit the gate and had time to run out side and disconnect the battery lead. When I opened the door to go out side to disconnect the battery lead the truck had smoke pouring out of the engine bay and I’m sure if I hadn’t of woke up and disconnected the battery the whole truck would have been set a light, burning down my house and possibly all of my family members who were inside. I have explained to Isuzu how dangerous this problem could be but they just don’t seem to care or cant fully under stand the seriousness of the problem. Now I always make sure the truck is out of gear when I park it as to eliminate some of the danger. On another two of the occasions where this problem has a risen if the truck had of been in gear it would of shot across a main road possibly causing a fatal accident. I keep asking at the dealership for an address and contact number for some one from inside the Isuzu Company who I can complain to and have had no luck there either. This situation is really getting to me and I just don’t know what to do next. Every time I try to complain about the service I am receiving from the main dealer in Udon Thani I just get a reply, “please sir just let us try one more time”. Although I would really like to get my truck back cured of this problem, am really hoping by posting this at Thai Visa I will get some advice on where and who I can complain to about this problem. I would like an address and contact number for some one from Isuzu who I can take this matter up with and would like to know from other Thai visa member’s weather there is any other organisations in Thailand I can talk to about this problem. Obviously the main problem I’m having in complaining is that I don’t speak Thai. Yesterday when visiting the Udon branch of Isuzu I asked to speak with some one about my truck who could speak with me in English. I have done this several times with limited luck. I waited a whole hour yesterday before coming very agitated and asking the same question, I ended up losing my rag and with in seconds had some one come and speak to me in perfect English. The guy was from the banking section of the branch and was very pleasant but I still ended up getting no where. They still don’t know what the problem is and again I got told to be patient and to let them have one more try at curing the problem. I am now waiting again for this so called expert from Bangkok to come and look at my truck and was told when asked that he would be coming, “MAYBE” next week.

  7. Just like a few members thoughts on a piece of land that is for sale in my TG's village,( Suwannakhuha). The land is 18 rai in total and has three ponds on it which have been used in the past for farming fish, the ponds are roughly 1 rai each. The land has easy concrete road access and a all year around, water and electricity supply. I'm told the owner is selling to pay off his fathers gambleing debts. He is asking 300,000 baht for the land and has already turned down a offer of 200,000 from a local teacher. Still waiting to find out what title the land has and please correct me if i'm wrong, but from what i've been reading on Thai Visa, this isn't a bad price what ever title it has. Not really sure what to do with the land if we were to buy it, its mainly to take care of my GF's mother and farther. Again from what i've been reading on Thai Visa i think a good idea would be to continue the fish farming in the ponds and put a few rai a side for growing some Makua and may be some chilli peppers. Any other idears from members are appricated. Cheers in advance Lesh.

  8. Thanks for the info guys. From what i can make out there is no problem getting the fathers surname on the childs Thai birth certificte or using the fathers surname for registering the birth at the British Embassy, if the parents aren't married. Only one point now i'm still unsure about, and thats weather or not the child will automatically claim British citizenship if he is illegitimate? Will the child be able to get a British passport?

  9. Hi, just wondered if any one could tell me, if a child can be given his fathers surname if his father is not married to the childs mother? Can the child use his fathers surname for documents such as passports if his father is registered on his Thai birth certificate? Cheers

  10. Anyone know of any cheap airlines that fly direct from Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh City?

You could try United Airlines. They have a flight leaving for HCM around 8pm and back to HKG leaving HCM around 630am.I took them once and it was around 150USD.Think its only them and the Cathay/Vietnam Airlines code-share on that route so not alot of room for cheap fares but good luck anyway.

Cheers for the info, your spot on, United are the cheapest i could find as well, £175. Thanks again.

  11. Been trying to get enough cash from England to change into Thai Baht to fund my stay here in Thailand for the next three years. I've finally got my cash here but the baht seems to have taken a real dip over the last few days. Whats the chance of the baht getting back to 70 to the £ like it was a couple of weeks ago? I have enough money changed to keep me going for a few months so what do you think my best move would be? Should i change now or wait?

  12. I've just imported two dogs from the Uk into Thailand. They both came as cargo as i was already based here in Thailand. I used a company in the UK to export them and a shipping agent in Bangkok to handle things this end. The company in the UK required export permits for both dogs. The shipping agent in Bangkok applied for these permits and then e-mailed a copy to the company back in the UK. I tried to do all, the process of impoting my dogs alone at first, but found it so much easier paying some one else to do this for me and i don't think it really worked out to be any more expensive. If any one wants the details of the companies i used please pm me. I can highly recommend both companies.

  13. Hi

Does anyone know where, and how to get a motorcycle that has been imported into Thailand, registered and given a green book here in Thailand? I've been told there are two different charges for this, 50000 and 80000, when the higher charge is made the bike is usally inspected. If anyone has any more information about this two thier charge and any info about the inspection, please let me know. Also what paper work for the bike and myself will i need to register it.

Where to start???? First, used motorcycles are not allowed to be imported into Thailand unless you are the owner and have been for over one and one-half years before permanently moving to Thailand. You must have the title from the country you moved from, the export-import papers and a letter from the Thai Ministry of Commerce giving you permission to bring the bike into Thailand. However, used bikes are smuggled into Thailand all the time, some are bikes broken down and called "spare parts" others are whole bikes brought in by other means. One way or another some of these bikes get registered. None of it is legal. Nuff said.

I got Spare parts bike registered totally legal 50000+10000=60000 with green book and insurance and tax paid, no worries.

must be depenst of additude when one is registering that....

Care to tell me where you got your bike registered and what paper work you had to present for the bike and yourself? Cheers Lesh.

Are you saying every bike i see being riden on the highways, that is not made in Thailand, is illegally registered? I find this hard to believe as there are so many for sale, for hire and being riden every where i have travelled in Thailand.
