  1. This evening went with a friend from my home country to the Limpini boxing stadium. He is a huge fan of Muay Thai and looked forward to visit the stadium and watch the fights. I told him about my former visits, standing between the Thai spectators on 3rd row and mingle between the gamblers. The atmosphere on 2nd and 3rd row is something you have to feel watching the fights. People who went there know what I am talking about.

So we arrived at the entrance and after politely ( in Thai ) made clear we didn’t want to buy the expensive VIP tickets from the tout’s I ventured to the ticket boot to buy our tickets for 3rd row, 200 baht each. Asking politely (again in Thai) for 2 tickets I was waved to another boot where a sign was placed “Foreigners 1.500 baht”. I politely made clear again that we didn’t wanted VIP ringside tickets but that we wanted to watch the fights fom the 3rd or 2nd row where all the locals are. The guy behind the counter asked if I had a Thai ID card, but I showed him my 5 years Thai drivers license instead. A harsh “No, you foreigner” came out of his mount and he showed me the sign which stated the 1.500 baht foreigner entrance fee again and a look on his face to buy this VIP tickets or x#$&-off. To make a long story short, it was impossible to get a ticket for the so-called “Thai national 2nd or 3rd ring” which never happened to me before. The whole conversation was in polite Thai as I speak the language fluently, except the harsh “No, you foreigner” from the ticket guy.

Well, we decided to x#$&-off and spend our money on beers instead. It is not about the money, but it seems that we foreigners are not welcome anymore to watch the fights standing between the locals on 2nd or 3rd row in Lumpini Boxing stadium. It’s a shame.

  2. Today we found another foreigner who bought a piece of land with "red" Chanote (so with the 10 years restriction) last year in Chiang Rai. He faxed me his original Chanote and indeed the same thing. He bought it with a loan agreement in place set up by the land office. Again the same advice we got from 2 other land offices.

As lannarebirth stated, this is not a scam but a rather new type of Chanote. We are also told by people working at our bank that this kind of Chanote can be used to get a bank loan. (not that we want this but it proofs that this type of Chanote is regarded as a FULL Chanote title.)

I will contact a lawyer next week to discuss further.

  3. This Chanote title deed has the Red Garuda on top and is a full Chanote title deed BUT with 1 restriction and that is that as from the time of issuance from tha land office you can not transfer the deed to somebody else. ie, the name holder of the Chanote can not be changed into somebody else's name within 10 years of issuance.

These "red" chanote title deeds are the same as the "normal" chanote titles without above restriction which are called "black" chanotes. Do not confuse the "red" with the color of the garuda because they both have the red garuda.

We went to the land office and they confirmed above to us. They explained that since a few years land titles like Nor Sor 3 and below can be converted in certain area's to Chanote titles. But to try to rule out land speculation this new type of Chanote has entered the scene. So people holding land on Nor Sor 3 and below can put in a request at the land office for changing to a Chanote title. The land will be measured and official Chanote sticks will be placed on the corners of the land and this "red" type of Chanote (with the red garuda on top) is issued with the restriction that you can not transfer the title deed within 10 years. (again, to rule out land speculation).

Now the land office told us that we can savely buy this land by means of a loan agreement with the current owner. On paper we will lend the owner a sum of money and he will give us the Chanote as collateral. The sum of money lended to the owner on paper will be 10 times higher than we will actually pay for the land. Also there will be a sale agreement in place. All co-signed and witnessed by the land office and the village head. After 8 years we can claim the Chanote and get it transferred to my wife's name.

Another option they gave us was a rent agreement with option to buy. Rent for 8 years (the owner has the title for 2 years already) for the selling price and after that option to by for 1 baht.

I guess this all is rather new to everybody, including me. But I would like to get in touch with somebody who already bought this type of land with all agreements in place.

  4. We are offered a piece of land which holds a Chanote "Red" title deed. This type of Chanote (Red title) can not be transferred within 10 years after issuance of the deed. The deed is issued 2 years ago to the current owner so we would be able to get it transferred to my wife's name in 8 years time. (not at the time of sale)

The current owner wants to sell and is willing to sign any document we give him. Has anybody any knowledge on how to buy this type land in a save way ?

    Many thanks,

    John

  5. Steven,

    another very good website: www.aidsmeds.com

Go to the forum, a lot of knowlegable people there.

Adherence is the most important thing. NEVER EVER let her skip a dose.

GPOvir is a very potent combination and as long as she does not develop side effects and she is 100% adherent she will be ok. In the first weeks watch for rashes, vomiting, abnominal pain, fever. If she develops severe rash do see her doctor right away.

And you are a great person by not running away from this. Stick with her and you both will have a bright future ahead of you.

  7. I am looking for a small office (1 room) in the Ramkamheang area.

Maximum 6000 thb per month. We want to register our company there (Limited Partnership) so it should be a commercial building.

Office will not be used on a daily basis. Most of our business is internet based.

We are not looking for a virtual office because as of my latest info it is illegal to register a company at a virtual office. (please let me know if I am wrong)

    Thanks,

    John

  8. Just one more thing.

Check out the official Thai hiv/aids conference 2004 website from the Ministry of Health on http://www.aids2004.org/

Quote from this official website on the link "traveling to bangkok:

    Health Regulations

No vaccinations are currently needed for entering Thailand. It is recommended that you are immunized against polio, typhoid, tetanus and hepatitis A and B.

Thailand has no specific restrictions on entry for people living with HIV/AIDS. However, be sure to familiarise yourself with the rules and regulations of all countries through which you may have to travel on your way to Thailand.

Delegates who have traveled from or through the countries which have been declared Yellow Fever Infected Areas must present the International Health Certificate providing that they have received a Yellow Fever Vaccination to the Immigration Officer upon arrival at the port of entry in the Kingdom. (Note: If there is further information for Yellow Fever Vaccination for HIV/AIDS delegates will be announced later)

So, what are your comments on this ?

    John

  9. Well, well, just like pvDick my post has been banned from the forum.

And all because I challange Dr. Pat Pongs statement.

Way to go, I am out of here , it is not worth anymore to hang around.

  10. I once did it a few years ago. Send my passport out, got a Non Immigrant year visa (B-multiple entry) and had it shipped back to me. A small problem occurred later when I had to apply for a workpermit. I had to visit Immigration and the immigration officer checked the visa. He asked me how I got this visa and I told him honestly that I applied for it by mail (DHL). He than took my passport upstairs to talk to his superiors and came back in about a half an hour. He told me that I could not get a workpermit on this visa and that I had to leave the country for a new visa. However he did NOT put any remarks in my passport and also did NOT cross out this visa which was still valid for 6 months. So if I decided not to proceed with a workpermit I still could use this visa. If it was illegal he would have thrown me in jail or otherwise would have charged me overstay. This did not happen at all.

Another story of a friend of mine who also send out his passport for a visa was halted at an immigration checkpoint because the immigration officer saw that he also did not have departure/entry stamps regarding this visa. After some conversation and the officer calling to Bangkok Immigration he let my friend enter the country on this visa without any problem

It is strange, but maybe this is a grey area.

By the way, I have never ever seen a statement from immigration that this is illegal.

  11. I am not married abroad so that is also no option for me. And yes, the Thai system gets totally confused if you have a lot of names as in the european system. I still find it remarkable that amphurs don't have a back up system for this. In the future when all amphurs in Thailand are hooked up to the computer system this will mean that there will be no possibillity to marry in Thailand for some people, unless you are able to change your passport. For me, I can not change my passport to mention initials only because my government does not allow this.

Maybe I will have to visit Patani in the end afterall. (ha ha) Wednesday I will visit some more amphurs and hope I get lucky.

    John

  12. Tried to marry at several amphurs (townhalls) last week in Bangkok but because my name is to long it does not fit in their computer. And..........this is not a joke. (I have 3 middle names).

Does anybody know closeby amphurs around Bangkok where they still write marriage certificates and do not use computers yet ?? I asked around but I keep on ending at computerized amphurs. Went to 6 already and getting a little bit frustrated.

    Thanks,

    John

  14. Dear All,

I am planning on marrying my Thai girlfriend next month. I am staying here on a tourist visa at the moment. I have 3 questions and I would appreciate if someone can answer them.

    1. As for the actual marriage registration at the "Amphur", do I need another visa or can I do that while staying on a tourist visa. (I have all the other necessary marriage paperwork in place)

    2. When I recieve the marriage certificate I want to apply for a multiple entry Visa "O". Which embassy is the best to go for a multiple entry type "O" visa ? (Penang - Vientiane ?)

    3. How many entries is the max. I can apply ? (4 entries-1 year ?)

    Your help is highly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    John
