  1. Today the aqmthai site is not working.  Anyway, here is a screenshot from aqicn, showing central and northern Thailand.  Chiangmai, Lampang and Lamphun are very smoggy now. Also Khon Kaen. Mae Sot very polluted.

Well that is good.  I hope you can now set up a public website that gives us all the information that they are collecting.  I'm looking forward to seeing it!

  3. There's lots of info on the aqicn.org website about how they collect and present the data.  All air pollution data on particulates are measured in micro-grammes per cubic metre (equal to ppb or parts-per-billion).

Quite why the Thai and Chinese websites show very different values for what seems to be the same monitoring stations is a mystery to me.

On the aqmthai.com site, you need to click the "report" tab, choose "manual report", choose  35t or 36 t for either of the 2 monitoring stations supported, enter dates and report type, choose pm10 or pm2.5, choose dates, click button for table or graph. All damn fiddly but it can be done...

LolaS, sunny day or not tells us nothing about particulate air pollution.  Nothing at all.  aqicn website tells us how the data is collected and reported.  Look at http://aqicn.org/gaia/.   Satellite readings are never mentioned at all.  I think you're making the whole thing up.  But why?

  4. The official Thai Pollution Control Department does its own data collection and publishes hourly figures on the website aqmthai.com.  Its not easy to use but getting pm2.5 is possible for the two monitoring stations in Chiangmai.  Here's the one for Chang Puak. It is a lot lower than the aqicn figures.

  5. The ubidots figures are so wildly different from the other readings for northern Thailand that there must be something amiss. Anyone who's been out and about in Chiangmai city knows that the air in CMU, Mae Hia and  Suan Dok is really pretty dirty - just walk around for an hour and blow your nose into a clean handkerchief  to see the black filth all us city dwellers endure.   Get real!

  6. Map of today's pollution from the aqicn website really shows what a lie it is accusing Myanmar and Laos etc. of causing this smog.  High readings in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang.   Really clear air in Mae Hong Son, Mai Sai, Phayao, Nan and Phrae.

Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai authorities are really losing control of this, and refuse to admit it.

  7. Monitoring website aqicn.org now reporting 'very unhealthy 203' for station CMIS. The whole Chiangmai-Lampun area now thick with smog.

Previous years we used to get lots of chat on ThaiVisa about the problem - this year no-one's bothering.

Well, it's just another year, same toxic unbreathable poop. Powers-that-be unable and/or unwilling to do anything about the dreadful assault on the people's health and well-being.    Same-same.

  8. I will travel to Europe in April and I have a medical condition that requires pharma-strength sunblock every couple of hours. Therefore I need to take about 300cc as cabin luggage. I will bring the doctor's prescription, but if security won't let me take it on the plane, I can't fly.

Advice, ideas? Contacts number for security at Suvi?

  9. Didn't there use to be a monitoring station at Phuping Palace? Can't find it on aqmthai.

There used to be four stations in Chiangmai, including Phuping palace, now there's only two. They are shown as Chang Phueak and Si Phum in the Air4Thai iOS app. One of then is Yupparaj Wittayalai School shown on the

    http://aqicn.org/city/thailand/chiangmai/yupparaj-wittayalai-school/ web page but I don't know which. Both Air4Thai sites are in the "Unhealthy" zone right now :-{

  10. Nokia C2 is 2G. Put the SIM in a 3G phone.

Thanks for trying, but unfortunately that's not the right answer.

I put in a prepaid Swiss SIM in the Nokia. It connected to THA4 and showed a little "3G" symbol in the signal strength indicator.

So there must be either a block on Orange UK's side, or there is a Thai-wide block on the SIM.

I will try a local AIS or DTAC office and see if their systems show anything. Can't find a support number for Orange UK yet. Any other ideas?
