This thread will probably be moved because it doesn't specify Pattaya as having a casino in the future.

In any case, it's not if, just when, for both Thailand in general, and Pattaya.

Social harm to Thai's has been cited by many as the main reason casinos will never be allowed in Thailand, however, Thailand could easily follow Vietnam's model and have locals provide proof of a minimum monthly salary in order to gain entry.

Past couple of decades have been mostly steady improvement in terms of foreign income from tourism, thus regardless of all the talk over the years about casinos, there has not been burning need to proceed from that perspective, rather more than enough work to keep infrastructure in match with tourism volumes.

Now, with the developments since 2020 with covid, the war, and consequent coming recession, situation is different and I also would be pretty suprprised if casinos would not come into the toolbox. Unrealistic to expect the decisionmakers to let that money to flow to neighboring countries who have the gambling places that attract asian gamblers.

I would guess those casinos would be for foreigners and maybe for rich thais, and local mass market gambling will stay underground as it has been to fund police and other goverment officials related to that.

I know they're extinct since the 2020's, but I happened to come across one in Koh Phangan. I must've been the first customer in years, but there were PC's for use. All information online is outdated, because most shops have closed down this activity.

So don't bother sending me links from Google.

EDIT: I am looking for a job online but I need a computer first.

You beat me to it - that's exactly what I was going to say!

Ilegal buildings? Are you out to cross some owners there? If you want to see the sea you can walk back to the beach near Mike mall. Granted, those private terraces are pretty great an amenity for restaurant owners, but they were no different from those I ve seen in Sala Dan on Koh Lanta. Also, all the fun streets in Thailand (that I know off) are very animated with foodstalls and even some shows on both sides, such as in Khaosan. I heard that street is dead now, though.  I want tourism to come back to Thailand, with the same kind of backpackers which made my experience there so great, not only Chinese package tours and luxury ASQ hotels.

  5. I can't tell you how p*ssed off I am to have gone back to Europe 6 months ago. Our governments are either dumb or pretending to be dumb, imposing measured which affect the many but benefit the few. Northern Europe seems spared as the governments entrust their citizens to be "reasonable". This world won't be the same after this'

Meanwhile in Thailand, life has taken off again, with pictures of mobs of people without masks.

All in all, you're better off in Asia. Where the governlent doesn't lock you up in your own houses
