Apparently the rules have changed for entry into Thailand. I spent about a year spending most of my time in Thailand, I'd stay for the majority of my free 60 day tourist visa, leave the country for about two weeks then come back. Last year I moved to Laos, have a long term visa, am renting a house here. When I last entered Thailand, late last year, they pulled me aside for questioning, and when I said I was living in Laos, they could see my Lao visa etc and I was just going for a quick trip for shopping etc, they said that was fine and very happily let me in saying I was welcome to come as long as I was living in Laos and not spending most of my time in Thailand. A few days later when I left Thailand the IO just about yelled about me, very angry about how many times I'd come to Thailand and said I can't come back for a year. Obviously he was just having a bad day and being silly, but it leaves me wondering where I stand, realistically. I would love to do a day trip for shopping once or twice per month in Thailand, or maybe occasionally spending a night or two, and by my understanding I 'should' be allowed to do that, but it seems to depend on the IO on the day? If I'm only doing short trips in Thailand I'm clearly not trying to live there on tourist visas or otherwise abuse the system, but I'm not sure what the rules are or how they're currently being enforced, and apparently neither do some of the IOs. Should I just avoid Thailand or was it just unusual that I encountered one surly IO as I was leaving Thailand?
