  1. A I wrote a visa for Myanmar no longer is needed.

Transport across no mans land both ways and the border pass is part of the 900 baht fee you will pay after clearing Thai immigration.

You can cross the border turnaround and come back.

So, they have open the border again? I have cheked the forum everyday about this matter, and never seen they opend, great news, thank youbiggrin.pngclap2.gifwai.gif

  2. It is no longer possible to do a border crossing there unless you get a visa for Myanmar from the embassy in Bangkok.

Myanmar immigration stopped doing border passes there several months ago.

Is it still OK to go there for just a visa stamp?

In order to get a stamp you have to be stamped into and out of Myanmar. The only way to do that now is if you have a visa for Myanmar.

OK, thank you, that means to go back for visaruns to Kambodia, and a 16 hour trip insted of 3....that sad.

  3. So they say it's about the insects themselves containing too much histamine. Then they go on to explain it's to do with bacteria having histamine.

Why does everything I read in the news here set off my BS detector.

Yes - although the report is not total BS .... histamine in food comes from the breakdown of the protein in the food itself and is caused by storing for too long at too high a temperature. Some types of bacteria can also increase the histamine formation so it's one of the factors.

But I think you'd need to eat a lot of insects to have any symptoms - unless you also have an allergic reaction to histamine or have asthma. Normally histamine just gives you a red rash and inflammation. So 50% BS and a bit unnecessary?

Aren't these bugs just eaten as a snack rather than as a main meal?

Histamine from fish is a much bigger risk - eaten is larger amounts and by more people.

There are many areas where the only thing the kids have for food in school, is selfpict insects, and my guess

is that it's not ends in school, they probebly eats it back home too.

So no, they don't eat bugs just as snacks.

  4. The buffalo village is not much to see for the 150 bht they want from us ( Thai 30 bht) there is a nice garden and the have a buffalo show I think twice a day. Bueng Chawak is totaly worth it. The zoo is only 20 bht and it's realy a nice zoo. The garden is very nice too. Some parts of the year it's less flowers, but still beautiful. The crocodile farm have a lot of nice fish tanks and so on, but to see the sharks and the big aquarium I think it's too expensive for westerners, if I remember correctly, they wanted 350 bht extra for that, and again, I think it was about 30 bht for Thai people. But the whole lake area is worth the trip. On the way there, you also passes Sam Chuk, the hundred year market, it can be fun to see just because......smile.png

  7. I very much doubt there is any Norwegian programming available on the satellites visible here in Thailand.

Both Norwegian sat TV providers (Viasat on Sirius 4 and Canal Digital on Thor 3/4) are on satellites which are below the horizon from within Thailand, so no reception possible.

I am not aware of any "world" channels coming out of Scandinavia. The Germans have DW, Flemish Belgium and Netherlands have BVN etc. which being world channels are available on many different satellites, including on the ones visible from within Thailand.

I have SVT World in Nakklua, Pattaya
