  2. In case you are waiting for friends/family to arrive at the airport...

The best is to call travel co's in town...not in the airport....

my family was on a Thai Airways flight(TG951) scheduled to land at suvarnabhumi airport this morning at 6:55....finallly got the news that the plane was redirected and landed at Don Mueang.

It is my understanding that all/most Thai Airways flights were redirected to Don Mueang...and a few fligths redirected to Hat Yai or ChiangMai

  3. Am hoping board members can recommend a place you currently live in or have visited (friends apt, etc):

Monthly rent: 6-8,000 month, contract 3 month or less preferred.

Maximum 10 minute walk from any skytrain or subway station.

Can be a apartment, serviced apartment or condotel- furnished.

Wifi- setup in building, will pay extra for the service, (my current apt. has 15 day connection for 390 THB, renewable).

Close proximity to restaurants, vendors, thai etc.

Building name, address, phone number, contact name- please

    Hey,

If you are interested in On Nut end of the Skytrain-line (Ekamai, Phra Khanong, On Nut) and you are happy with a Studio, then there are plenty of those, just walk up and down some of the sois (like 81, as someone suggested) Easy to find! Not sure about their lease terms. But plenty og Studios in your price range.

  4. The building is nearing it's completion, it's open for sales (resales of speculative and unsold units) and for rentals.

Wife called them and was told that minimum rental term is 12 months. That is not unusual.

But 12 months worth of rent as a deposit surprised her. Then monthly rent payments.

So, if the rent is 25K, the deposit is 300K baht.

Currently, the contract on our place is renewed every 3 months, the deposit is 3 months rent.

Is it normal to ask for 12 months deposit?

    Hey,

I'm pretty sure that you guys misunderstood each other. Call them again!

  5. So, any chance there is anywhere here doing transfers from Etrade to Siam Commericial? Or from anywhere to Siam Commercial using an ONLINE wire system? Did you have to enter the ABA number etc for the US intermediary bank, or not?

    Hey,

I recently wired from Ameritrade to Siam Commercial Bank (SCB). Had to FAX the wire request for International wires. And provided them with SCB's corresponding bank, which is Bank Of New York (and also CittiBank, as far as I can remember) Just gooogle it for the ABA#, easy to find. Everything went smooth, 4 days later the money was on my SCB account.

    Good luck,

  6. I've been looking for cheap apartments/condos for quite a while now...and the projects I've found around the 1 mil baht, I wouldn't invest my money in, just too old and rotten. You would be living in a dump and seen as an investment, you would never get your 1 mil back. If I had 1 mil and no mortgage, I would buy a studio in the new LPN-project on soi 77. It's sold out, but I've seen a few private sellers on the net.

Your best option would be to get some kind of financing, possibly here in Thailand or in your home country. I've heard of quite a few that got it from their home country. And several of the big thai banks claim that they will give up to 70% mortgages to foreigners. So if you've been here for a while with an income, this could be an option. I don't know any that've done it, but as late as last week SCB told me that was the conditions for foreigners. It would mean that you could be looking for projects of a higher grade, which would tend to hold its value, hopefully with a gain.

If you aren't able to stretch your money to 2 mil, my best advice, is to keep renting...rather than to waste 1 mil on something that won't hold its value. Best of luck though, if you find something of interest, please let us know.

  7. A lot of good movies out there, well, if I should pick 3 it would be:

Old School (Comedy with Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, more)

    American Beauty (Kevin Spacey)

The Commitments (about Irish music group with great voice, Andrew Strong)

    Enjoy!

  8. My personal favorite is NIST on sukh soi 15, based on location and the kids tend to be very outgoing, friendly, and good English skills. But, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the schools.

The commute is something you need to consider in a city like, Bangkok. When I first moved here I did everything temporary, and then when I got to know the city, I made the decisions on where to live etc. That worked well for me.

  9. Hey,

Like Estrada and a few others pointed out, then there are plenty of good Thai web designers who speak good English. Just go to a place like Seacon Square, Phantip, or similar IT malls and after a bit of searching you'll find what you are looking for. They are quite cheap and many of them are really good. They should be able to show you templates that you can choose from plus examples of their previous jobs.

Fyi, to get a nice website, really depends more on your skills than theirs, as you need to be able to clearly tell them what you want, when it comes to design, layout, webcopy, etc. So most of the work is really on your side....

When it comes to SEO, then you may run into a problem....The Thai company can load your websites with keywords, using all kinds of techniques, and submit your site to relevant listings, indices, BUT that is far from a guarantee for ranking and success.

SEO is an ongoing thing! I don't know how dependent your company is/will be of rankings on various search engines, and I don't know much you are willing to spend every month to have someone looking after your rankings. But for the ongoing SEO you cannot expect the CHEAP thai services to handle it for you. It takes YOUR knowledge of your line of business to figure out which keywords will work for you. So again if you want success, it really is up to you and not the Thai 1-stop-shop. Having said that, then there are of course also Thai SEO companies out there that can act as a 'business analyst' for you, but then we are talking different prices.

    Best of luck,

    MaiTai

  10. Best place for Hi-Fi in Bangkok would be the Hi-Fi center across the street from Central World Plaza, white building inside a small soi, right next to Big C. If you are into Hi-Fi, then it is worth checking out. Several stores on 4 floors with equipment, like B&W, KEF, Wharfingdale, Bose, Boston, Dali, just to mention a few. Some stores also have High-end stuff, like Dynaudio speakers, well, if you want the high-end, it will of course cost accordingly.

May have Marantz too. Otherwise, then a lot of the Chinese stores in that same soi and close by, have all the Denon, JBL, etc, and some of them probably also have Marantz.

  11. sosol28,

All 4 schools you mention are great schools. And there are several other great international schools here in Bangkok. If you are willing to pay for it, then the international schools are of high standards, and often much better than what you may know from your home country. Fyi, then the 4 schools you mention are located quite far apart, so you may want to make your choice based on where you are going to live and/or work.
