  1. last time i went i watched the live band at winchburi hotel, glad it sounds like its still going.. although worried about lime green water to swim in..

i could live in petchabun no problems, but somart tart is different..

    thanks for the infomation....

the food at the hotel in petchabun (kosit hill) is/was not good at all.. there was a restaurant near big c opposite the army base which was full of squaddies which tasted pretty darn good..(its a big wooden structure)

the disco at kosit hill, was full of squaddies who were staying at the hotel, so didn't attend. saw a go go bar type thing by the market which doesn't really appeal to me but had white men drinking at it...

will be going to winchenburi qyuite a bit i think, and piesali and somart tart...

day trip to nakhon sawan and two nights in petchabun...

looks like rice diet for 2 weeks for me

  2. I hate the place with a passion however my wife needs to see her family.. her family live in (now let me try and spell this) won be koon (bangwanbekun) 20km west of route somart tart.. your a hero in my eyes for being able to stand the place.. I don't want two weeks there but needs must.. no tv, no internet, no a/c, no decent food but a tonne of alcohol..

its a shame the swimming pool water (which last time i went was a supermarket and furniture shop) has turned green, i hope its okay to swim in.. as i had planned to go there daily if at all possible..

last time i came to the area was in 2008, if you see a 30yr western guy with a 30yr old thai girl with british 60yr old mother in towe its me..

songkran should be fun, hope there is no violence, i have a super soaker ready to get them villagers!!! be warned...

draught leo??? mum will have to drive that day!

  3. the market is very small, never expect to make your millions of $$$$ but all these touristy products you see across the country have orginally been purchased in Bangkok (many imported from places such as Taiwan and China) So if your aiming to sell your product across Thailand best start in Bangkok. Remember market vendors 99% of the time don't purchase online.

Bangkok pavements are lined with gold they say, and some may make their fortunes they say!!

MY aproach would be to approach distrubutors in bangkok and try my hardest to find them! not easy when you don't speak the lingo I hear you say.. however start in Bangkok..

the thai online market is worth very little of the annual gdp of thailand..

sorry i can't be of much help although i certainly feel based on an online only marketing stratedgy your going to struggle..

  4. First of all I'm sorry to hear about your situation

I really wouldn't bother hiring a private detective, used mainly buy paranoid customers of bars who have been sold the idea that their wife will return to her village and the relationship is exclusive..

cars get stolen a lot in thailand, its easy enough to get away with unlike many western countries.

Just do as the police say, I'm sure they are aware of your lack of awareness but just do as they say...

many companies will rent you a car, without even checking if you have a license, which you need! you need at least a intl driving license in order to be road legal.

And if they have just asked for your passport you can gtd that its not insured for you to drive...

In the eyes of the law this is your fault, and although its a grey area never rent a car unless your insured in Thailand.

Really thai law needs to be updated a little bit to suit us westerners..

  5. i get the impression you don't have a clue what your doing, although you've got a good idea. pity about the format...

I'm not willing to tell you how to run a business but do your thai customers use the internet to purchase orders?

    answer is no of course!!!

market your product in the right place first of all.

    the best way is obvious!!

My advice is find every single wholesaler in bangkok that might buy your product and sell like hell..

  6. I'm married to a girl who used to work at a massage parlour, she sold her body to make money. so i can't comment on finding a Thai girl who's not a working girl..

but why would you want to marry a thai lady?

I'm happily married, but every relationship I've seen In Britain between thai ladys and english men is far from perfect. You might not get a lady with such a nice body but the culture difference makes it hard to say any thai-ferang relationship is normal.

I once went out with a thai girl who was upper class and educated and that was no better.

come to Thailand, get laid go home IMO..

although I love my wife and I wish to be with her for life, the relationship would have been better if she was from the western part of the world. If this relationship fails then I will never go back to a thai women..

I literally came to Thailand backpacking, first day in bangkok I met my wife and here I am...

again we are happily married but thai girls argue over really silly things. unlike western girls who argue over silly things..

anyway Thai women in general like the idea of meeting a fairly good looking wealthy westerner and getting married. If you've been in LOS for 7years and not found that yet then your looking in all the wrong places..

My mother who's 60 had 35-45yr old men falling at her feet when she met the in laws...

    anyhow good luck..

  7. I'm coming for Thai New year in April for 2 weeks, to visit my wife families (extended)

stayying in what she calls Somart tart (bueng Sam Phan) any suggestions of what to do in Petchabun Province?

I will spend a couple of nights in petchabun as well and was wondering what are the best waterfalls in the Nam nao mountanous region

forgive my spelling of place names (and anything else)

Winchenburi has a small hotel with a rather large swimming pool which is quite cheap to swim in.

Somart Tart has a night market on Friday nights

15km north of somart tart up the highway there is a series of beautiful waterfalls (easy to miss)

any suggestions please add to this thread!! also any suggestions of places to eat please add to this thread..

  8. Have a friend that did what OP is talking about doing. This guy bought all the equipment and stock for the shop which was a 7/11 type store. After opening sales were going great and they quickly sold out most of the stock and came to him for money so they could replace the stock. It seems they spent all the money they were making on personal items and none was spent replacing stock. OP what will you do when this happens?

Things like this do worry me a bit, this isn't going to be my business. I will set it up and help manage it until cash flow is good and then teach my inlaws to run it day by day and give it to them. If they mess it up, they so be it but I look at this as high risk I feel if the business oppurtunity is right then its worth doing. Yes its easier to just send them the money, but I bet they will feel a real sence of achievement from sucessfully running this business venture.

cheers for everybodys help, My favourite idea is 7/11 style mini market without buying the franchise oppurtunity (i.e. indpendantly owned).

tourism home stay ideas I will look into, never even thought about this one.

  9. I would take that 1.3mil and put it into the kids education, English tutoring etc while they are young and furthering there education as they get older through Uni etc.

I would say the falure rate of business ventures on here seems to be 99%, give the next generation the opportunity to feed themselves.

    Just my opinion

My wife and I are saving up for the 5 kids to goto university when they reach that age. but yes this is a good idea. I have a business freind in Bangkok who I have thought about using to keep a watchful eye. and I will be their to set the business up.

  10. This is nearly a decision that you have to make yourself, very difficult for business ideas.

    1. Has your Thai family had a business before ?

    2. There is a thread on 7-11 expensive and not very good income and goals to be met ewvery month.

    3. How many in the family.

    4. Difficult to have and idiot proof business as not many seem to understand what profit means.

    5. Any skills in the family ? ie are they farmers any one at University

    6. How long have you and your wife been married/together ?

Lot of questions but common sense

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1) my father in law owned his own taxi, but hardly a business and they have no other expereince

    2) 7/11 profits from what I hear are poor but I feel they might be able to make enough from it

    3) 5 workers, 3 children aged between 14 and 17 who can work part-time

    4) they don't understand profit or much at all when it comes to business

    5) 2 lorry drivers, petrol station mechanic, gents hairdresser & thai chef

    6) its our 4th wedding anniversary today, been together much longer

  11. Hi, I am looking to fund a business for my inlaws who live in the petchabun province, Thailand. My wife will soon be paying for a new home for them and I really want them to be able to support themselves.

They live in a small thai town with a population of 2000 people approx, they own 2rai of land but It would not suit a retail business. I am prepared to buy a shop unit or land to build a shop unit as I can only see a retail business working in their village/town.

I have 1.3million baht to invest into this business

I have owned 7 business's to date and will help set-up their business

The business needs to be fairly idiot proof

Ideas I have come up with as follows: 7/11, family mart, privately owned newsagents, internet/game shop, breed fish for eating, hydrophonics, cosmetics shop

    any ideas TV?

  12. How many square metres do you think you will build? 40sq metres

. Do you want to include the bathroom fixtures?...kitchen sink?...kithchen counters?....refrig?....stove? etc. in the price? yes

What quality of materials and workmanship are you expecting?...sheet metal roof ok?...4mm cement board walls ok?...cheapest tiles?....cheapest windows?...etc. sheet metal roof is okay, 4mm cementboard are a bit thin IMO, but yes cheap tiles, cheapest windows..

Do you speak Thai and if not how will you communicate with the workers?...my wife won't be with me, just her family who don't speak english and me, i had thought to a translation service.

Do you know enough about building to be able to supervise what they are doing? in a word 'no'

When they go buy rebar whose size is "see hun" will you know to check it to see if it is actually big enough for what you want (assuming you know what you want)....not all "see hun" is the same....do you know that to send the rebar back because it is too small means someone loses face and in Thailand that someone will be you and not the workers?...and that losing too much face will usually put a real strain on your relationship with the workers, your wife, and her family and your neighbors? 3yrs with a thai person has taught me 'face' although i call it '<deleted>'

I supervised the construction of our house.....my advise is if you decide to do this too that the most important thing is to never get angry....never never never get angry....anger is alway alway always counterproductive in the long run. cheers

    Chownah

  13. My wife inheirited land about 20km west of bang Sam phan (sumort tart 60km south of petchabun), and I want to build a 1 bed house on the land.

I'm very serious about this project and the only thing that will delay it is the final cost (have I got anough funds now),

I'm looking to build a small house with one bedroom, one very large lounge, one kitchen, one bathroom and a porch.. my estimate for final project price is about 200Kbaht.

Now I could just give the money for this house to my inlaws and let them manage the project, but they've devoloped a skill of messing things up.. and I want to make sure the builder doesn't cut too many vital corners. So I'm looking at coming to Thailand to manage the project myself! Do you think that this is a wise way of doing things? or an unessecary way?

could I for 200Kbaht pay a contruction company to do this for me?

Should it cost less than 200k baht for that size of project?

    all help is much appreciated!

    (more Q's to come)
