I feel that we foreigners must share a bit of the burden here regarding the thais warped perception of their own superiority as a country.
I myself have been guilty in the past of flattering the locals. When i first arrived here I was completely in awe of the place, I told everyone how much I loved their country, their food, the people, the weather, the beaches etc. over the years it seems that Thais have started to believe their own hype. They have completely bought into what farangs have been telling them for 50 years.
now it seems they think they are above everyone else, are conceited to the hilt and think that everyone is just desperate to get back here as soon as possible.
years and years of flattery has turned Thailand into a snobby, entitled monster that shows no signs of letting up.
As all of us were once tourists and have probably partaken in our own fair share of flattery over the years, I feel we must all shoulder a bit of the responsibility in what we have now ultimately helped to create.

100%
they think Thailand is the be all and end all. How wrong they are.
one day in the not too distant future this place will receive a very rude awakening.

In 6 yrs spent millions of baht. In education for the kids, living expenses, land+house+monthly support to the Thai family, etc. But, after i refuse to go with them, 5 officers force me to the ground and drive me into the 'interrogation room' (money extortion room), only for having me "caught" with a tape measure in my hands, measuring available space for new furniture in a place i rent. Honestly, foreigners in my home country are treated much better and more respectfully than foreigners in this country.
All they care about is money.
They couldn't care less about the human side of it.
If they aren't profiting from financial gain they just aren't interested in helping us at all.
It's a disgraceful attitude and it needs to change IMO.

Nobody cares for the 50 cent beer buyers anymore.
So why does Cambodia offer 50 cent beer by the glass then?
Just for the fun of it?
Or maybe it's because people actually like value for money when they are on holiday.
Your statement is a little perplexing to say the least!

Me neither, I'd be in Cambodia.
Imagine all the 50 cent beers you could buy with that! ????

And once again, absolutely nothing to the benefit of those married here with children.
It's all about the MONEY, never about the HUMANITY.

Do your own research buddy.

Why would anyone go to Koh Tao?
We all know which family runs that place.
However, if you like a garden hoe put to your head after a meal then maybe this is the place for you!

'Close your businesses and we ain't gonna help you!'
That is the attitude from this disgrace of a government.
To add insult to injury they dangle a sweet carrot in front of desperate workers.
The 4,000 baht that never arrives (or only arrives after months of waiting and faffing about trying to get it).
The writing has been on the wall for years now.
This military junta disguised as elected officials DOES NOT care about the average man & woman in the street.
They only serve upwards, everyone else is collateral damage to be brushed under the carpet as quickly and as quietly as possible.
All I see in Thailands immediate future is desperation and hardship.
And that is exactly how those in charge want it to be.
So sad to see the country I once loved wholeheartedly deteriorate into this.

Well, well, I have been here in Thailand for 18 years and I think never had Beer Lao. I have been looking quickly and hardly noticed Lao from Leo. Its the age thing you know.
The consensus on this thread tends towards Beer Lao being the best, though I agree the competition is not serious. Recently I have been drinking Leo strong brew that I really think is an improvement on the other three Thai 'beers'.
So if you will excuse me, I am on my way to do a little beer shopping in the form some Beer Lao.
Thank you for the input here
What do you reckon mate? Any good?

With due respect, no, but it and BeerLao Dark are much more palatable and drinkable than most of the Thai ".........."!!
When I retired to Lanna in Thailand 20 years ago, draught beer Chang was my favorite and so different in taste from today's Chang (not to be confused with the current "towers"). It was very popular but throughout the years it was gradually replaced by bottled and canned Chang with the "pint pots" disappearing.
I now live in Cambodia and my 3 favorites are Cambodia Beer, Angkor Beer (not to be confused with the more recent Anchor Beer) and ABC Stout (black beer similar to Guinness). A large glass of chilled draught Angkor or Cambodia Beer on a hot and humid day is so refreshing. For reference, a small glass of draught beer is 50 US cents - around 16 baht!!
On my travels in Burma (Myanmar) during the pro-democracy era, I drank and liked Myanmar Beer (pale ale), Mandalay Strong Ale and Myanmar Black Shield Stout (another black beer).
I remember swilling this on my hotel balcony in Phnom Penh a while back.
And from my recollection it was OK.

same same here.

Because the judges are in the pockets of the very people who kicked them out!
The legal system here is owned by the wealthy.
Of course they would lose the case and probably spend the rest of their lives in jail as political prisoners.
Does it make you guilty when all the cards are stacked against you and you have no chance of a fair trial?
They saw what was coming and acted fast.
Fair play to them.

and do you know what the most ironic thing about it all is????
The generals who booted the shins out gave themselves immediate amnesty for their actions, the exact same thing that provoked the initial protests from the yellow shirts over the Shinawatra amnesty bill.
Mind boggling or what??? ????
