  1. That's great advice 7by7, thanks. I'll definitely be applying for the spouse visa, thanks for drawing my attention to the medical care issue. I'd like to ask you some more questions, hope you're still feeling helpful.

We are married not just living together, but not married for 4 years. We've been married for 2 years 6 months. Will that affect the decision?

I see they have a clause in there regarding accommodation. I'll obviously have to arrange a rental agreement before applying?

Will there be an expectation that I, the sponsor, will be working immediately on entry?

Do you happen to know if there is a financial minimum I or the wife need to have in the bank for the application?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it.

  2. Hello 7by7, I've been reading all this info with a lot of attention and I'm really glad you started the thread. If you don't mind I have a few questions to ask. :)

We've just found out the wife is pregnant and have decided to go back to UK to have the little one. The wife and I have been married 2 years 6 months and we have never visited the UK together. We haven't decided how long to stay, but we might stay long enough to gain citizenship for the wife.

I was going to apply for a tourist visa first and take it from there, but seeing the advice you have given others, I think it might be possible to apply for a longer term visa, a spouse visa or some such. I see you mentioned filling in the vaf4a form, do you recommend that instead of the tourist visa?

Sorry if you think I'm being cheeky for asking, I often can't make head or tails out of government websites, some kind of selective dyslexia.

  3. I bought my xbox in Thailand and travelled to Middle East with it last Sept, no problem. Would also agree with Spoonman, don't put it in checked luggage. I carried mine in a laptop bag and boarded with that and another bag.

I don't know about right now, but at the time you could carry a laptop and another small bag on the plane. I just considered that mine was a computer, which is pretty much the same as a laptop, and nobody questioned me at all.

  4. Well. My friend is a yank, and everynight down the pub, which will remain nameless, we end up on the topic of politics. We sometimes have a variety of things to talk about, but one of his favorite subjects is...how the yanks saved Europe from itself. He loves to bang on about how the Europeans were fighting each other and killing each other and how the yanks had to come over and save the British bacon from ze Germans. When I mention that the fuc_king yanks took their time, and only got involved when they saw they had to - not out of any altruistic urge, he says that it was a European war, why the fuc_k should they get involed?

I suppose he's right, but he gets up my bloody nose. So I like to remind him that Iraq and Afganistan are American wars, and he's getting help from Britain right from the start, not 3 bloody years late. Any other smart answers so I can wind the bugger up?

  5. Went to 6th floor MBK today and found a guy with a chipped/modified box. Asked him to turn it on and show me it working. He says he couldn't turn it on because, what if it doesn't work, he's out a lot of money. I have to buy it first.

I have to give you 12000-14000 baht before you turn it on? And you've already taken it out of the box and opened the console and you're worried about it not working? Yeah, I'll be back in ten minutes, just going to the bank.

Eventually found one guy, back at central and he will demonstrate the box before any money changes hands. Will see him tomorrow in the afternoon.

  6. Hi

I've just arived in Bangkok and spent half the day looking for an xbox360 pro, the one with the 60 gig hard drive. Can I find it? Can I <deleted>.

I've been to the emporioum, central lad prao, central world, siam paragon and siam world, carrefour in param 9 and fortune tower. None of them had one. Guy in emporium had a 256 mb version and said it was the last one in Bangkok, and it was priced at 32,500 baht. Of course I scoffed and thought, you won't fool me you dirty scam merchant. One place in siamworld said they could order it for 14,000 baht and it would come with 80 gigs, which I think is the latest version?

A fella in paragon has one, with 20 gigs labeled "go pro". It comes ready chipped and he can sell me copied games for 80 baht a pop, for 25,000 baht. I told him I would think about it. Thing about that is, the warranty is already void because the console has been opened and chipped. And I don't know why this has been done, perhaps it might stop working on me as soon as I get home.

Sooooo, can anyone please tell me where I can get a 60 gig "pro" xbox360? I'm going to return to fortune tower tomorrow as it was a bit late when I got there and most of the shops were closed.

  7. :) Yeah, that was a big mistake on my part. I don't know a lot about cars and should have realised the yaris is actually about the same price as an aveo. But point of my question remains, has anyone got any real info on the aveo, in terms of reliability and after sales? Anyone driving one now?
  8. I've been looking at buying an Aveo LS or LSX. I don't know a lot about cars but the price for one new seems pretty reasonable, upto 40% lower than a yaris or camry I think. Anyone got any thoughts on the car's performance? Pluto Manibo already mentioned after sales service, care to expand on that?

  9. hi

me and the gf are hoping to go to taiwan and are applying for her visa this week. i was wondering if anyone has done this before or has any info about the type of questions they will ask. I have a job lined up and am aware that i can get a 30day tourist visa. the company can then apply for an ARC, alien residence cert. i'm thinking don't tell them i intend to work, ive been told the consul or the fella on the immigration desk get a bit shirty.

main question is, what are her chances of getting a visa the first time?

    thanks
