It's to make life just a little more difficult for ex pats living here it's to make you feel unwelcome because the hate us
On Saturday i went to Tesco and asked the manager (She speaks English), why they do not accept the bills unless Thai id accompanies the bill, but she was unable to explain why this has to be done. She took my telephone number and stated she would get back to me with the answer. Waiting, Waiting, Waiting ha ha ha

You can get a Thai ID if you wish and meet the criteria.
PEA have an app, or you can visit the local office and pay in cash.
same applies to the internet, either online, internet banking or at an office.
You havnt stated where you are as perhaps we could get some local input for you.
The Thai id for none Thais does not have a bar code, and it does not have the communication chip that is on it. So it is not the same. The put the Thai id in a machine and it reads the bar code and the chip.

Just paid my electric bill in person with cash. No problems at all. I suspect it's another scaremongering thread. <snip>
Sorry to disappoint you it is not another scaremongering thread this happened to me. I have not tried 7 or Big C yet just Tesco. I will try 7 the next time thanks for your reply

When i was at Tesco the lady informed me it was also Big C and 7. I have not tried them yet, but my wife was with me so she used her id. I have not tried my passport yet but maybe next time i will try. I did ask about the passport but no reply or maybe she does not know how to input the numbers. I will ask for a manager next week and hear what they have to say. It is not just the foreigners that have to produce ID it is also Thais. I cant understand why this has to be done. Next month my wife is going away maybe i will get her to leave her id ha ha

My life was not difficult until this happened for i would go to Tesco every week for something and it was easy to pay. Going to the bank i hate long lines and paying on line i dont trust. I will get someone to pay it for me. Who thought of this idea of id for paying for bills what is the benefit from this?

That was my mistake yesterday not asking for a supervisor as i was very mad. Yes i know that the Thai id has a microchip, and when they put my wife's in their machine it read it. Yes i know the passport is legal id for a foreigner, but they refused to take it yesterday. And as stated maybe they did not know how to enter the numbers. But why has this come about it is very strange, and to me it is of no use producing id. Maybe i am not thinking, but i just cant understand this. Who in all their wisdom decided to do this?

Good morning,
Last week i payed my internet payment at Tesco as i have done for many years, and then yesterday problem. When i went to pay my telephone bill i was told i needed my id, so i produced my Thai id but was told it was no good. OK i gave them my Thai driving licence but once again i was told no good. My wife gave them her Thai id and they put it in a machine and was accepted. I had my wife question the girl and she related that it was a new rule that just came into effect, and it apply s at all Tesco, Big C and 7 stores. They also dont accept passports.
Has anybody heard about this?
