Just rambling, however In this country the brown envelopes exist everywhere.

And it makes my life so much easier to spend my 6-month Thailad stay on a retirment visa. When posters complain in this forrum about ordeal of getting a retirment visa, I sip pina collada on the beach and laugh reading those posts.

    It's only 13 baht total.

Wow 13 baht. No wonder my GF who is also my daugther's mother always complain "farangs buy so much gold for their wife why you don't buy me gold" I say but farangs get "marriage visa", yellow book, and pink id card from their wife but I don't want any of those useless stuff.

I used a "helper" for this which, omitting the gory and sketchy details, cost me $950 this year to extend permission to stay with multiple re-entry permission.

If you're using an agent to get your visa, you can opt for a cheaper service that will cost you around 300/400 USD. Surprisngly agent prices have dropped after they went with the monthly income in the bank for the four consulates and modification of keeping 400K through out the year for 800K method, contrary to what most posters had anticipated. Myy be more people have switched to agents and now agents can make a decent incomes and the IOs can send their children to good private schools and buy a car due to the increased in volumes.

  4. I am in Thailand now and I have Permitted to Stamp till 22 March, 2020.
Got a new retirement extension that is stamped Extension of Stay Permitted Upto 20 MAR 2021.
I am leaving Thailand on March 18, 2020 (before my current Permitted to Stay date).

Come back again in October for my Thailand stay (I stay only 6-month in Thailand Oct-March) using my retirement extension.
If I go to the Chonburi office and get a single re-entry permit, what will be the valid until date of the permit? (expecting it to be 20 MAR, 2021).
I know I can get one in the Airport, but want to get it in the Chonburi office in case I forget to get one at the Airport in a rush.

If your wife gets confirmation that she can get added in the book for her Chiang Mai address, her mother should first get her name deleted on the book in Tak and then the holder of the book in Chiang Mai should get her added in his book.

My GF says don't need to delete or add anything. It is all automatic through computer. She has a condo in Bangkok, a House in Bangla Mung, and her mother's house in Sisaket. My daughter went through all the blue books becuase of her schooling in Bangkok, Sisaket, and Chonburi.

58 countries have so far closed their borders to China, but not Thailand, oh well, my protest is not to go out and spend until they do,

I don't think Thais care if you spend or not. You've option to go back to where you came from and post your rants from your home country.

Chef is not on the prohibited occupation list.

All the chefs I have seen in Indian Resturants are Indians. They are on work visa becuase not easy to find Thais who could cook Indian foods. Same for in the USA also. All the servers (most) are also Indians in Indan restaurnats becuase they need to interact with customers using Indian languages and not easy to find Thai workers talkng in native Indian languages. Same for the USA also. All the priests in Indian Hindu temples in the USA are on work visa becuase they could not find local priests for hindu temples. And I don't think servers in Indian restuarants are making 80K.

There is an Indian food stall at the cornet of South Pataya and the 2nd road. The owner serves, hence working, has a few Thai (Looks like Burmese, may be Burmese Thais) and Indian workers. I don't think any one them make 80K

Question:  OK, say you get rejected but you have a motorbike and a good amount of luggage still in Thailand.  Do you normally get 7 days to get your stuff, or are you really stuck?  I wish I had only a small bag, but that's impossible for me.

I don't think I'll to worry about this until at least May, and likely not until August....BUT I would leave my stuff in Thailand before going to Laos.

You can always enter through most land borders witout any problem.

    Again with agents?

I think I'm getting into your nerves with this agent thingy but I want to become an expert with the modus operandi of agents in Thailand. Agents for various offcial activities like DL, real estate, TM -30, 90-day, immigration extension, opening bank accounts, getting a yellow book, etc. They have made my life so much enjoyable in Thailand and freed me from all those hassles and horror stories  people post in this forum while I sip pina collada on the beach and laugh at those posts.

If you have a valid visa a return or onward ticket is not needed for entry.

But an IO has every right to deny entry and the person cant do anything. Yes he could lodge a complain from the holding cell in the airport but it will amount ot nothing. Can you give a link where it says onward ticket is not needed for  with a valid visa.

In Thailand there is NO guarantee you can sell a used house

I think Thai people don't prefer to buy used house for the fear of ghost in the house as they don't know if someone died there or not. When I was buying a house for my GF, she said she would live in rented place but won't buy a used house. Of course, with the maount of new construction and easy bank loan, I wonder why somebody would buy a used house.

In all dealings with Immigration, if there is doubt, then there is no doubt.  You should always plan for the worst case.  The issue is length of time, longer being worse than shorter, so assume ‘longer’.  Know Immigration as you know your investments, past performance is no guarantee of future performance.

And if you want consistancy, use an agent if you can afford it and willing to hire an agent. Thailand is a great country becuase you can do every thing smoothly using an agent. Have used agent for DL, buying and selling cars, immigration and could not beleive how smooth and consistant the process is. They even fill up the form (Mostly written in Thai) for you and you just sign. I was a fool to not use an agent for opening a bank acount and lesson learned. Never again I deal with Thai government officials without an agent.
